Thanks for addressing egg binding - kind of a lesser discussed topic for some reason. Would love to see a Retes Stack build

I would love a tegu version of this video! Great info! Even if I may never talk my fiance into actually getting a tegu or ackie.

Lol. Usually I just get a chuckle and the question of where we're gonna put this one.... But there's a slight size difference between a leopard gecko and a tegu

I'm currently building the background for an upgrade to my ackies enclosure I was limited for space so I went 66x54x36 (LxHxD) ill be using an arcadia 54w dragon lamp with 1x 150w basking bulb a 75w halogen bulb and a 100w ceramic deep heat projector my substrate plinth is just over 2ft so I'll be looking to provide 18-22 inches of substrate with an external nesting box kept at a constant temperature

I find you can meet the care requirements in a 2 ft tall tank by using retaining walls or lay box's to create deeper substrate in specific parts of the enclosure and 10% UVB. While i dont think its necessary having a 3 ft tall would be more ideal and less hassle i would imagine though.

I'm getting an Ackie and Northampton reptile centre recommends a basking spot for day (heat bulb) and one for the night a ceramic bulb at 80 I think. What do you suggest ?

Defently like the part about deep substrate for females. Alot of people overlook this

I just got a 3 month old ackie I’m working on building a pvc enclosure but I temporarily have him in a 90x45x45 how long would you keep one in there? Or just switch him as soon as possible ??

Oh wow that’s normally the size that people put their adults in I’m glad your putting them in a very large enclosure they will be so happy. Also, I don’t think this guy answers or does anything on UA-cam anymore he hasn’t posted or responded to comments in the past year😢. I would move him whenever the new enclosure is ready!

How exactly are you supposed to keep the uvb so far away when the basking light has to be so close to get the basking spot hot enough? Seriously confused. Not trying to be rude or anything, just want everything to be perfect when I do eventually get an ackie! It will be my first more advanced lizard, and I’ll be building my own enclosure.

While I can generally agree with you on some topics, I think that some of the information you sharein this video is not necessarily accurate, or even true. I've been keeping and successfully breeding V. acanthurus for 10 years exclusively in glass terrariums. Also, none of my terrariums has height of more than 80cm (approx. 2,5 feet) and I use relatively shallow sandy substrate, no more than 5cm (about 2"). I do, however, use opaque plastic box in every terrarium filled with damp mixture of fine sand and peat that allows for tunneling. Under one third od the bottom of each box small heater (7W) is placed to create thermal gradient within the boxes (boxes are placed on the "cool side of the terrarium) Females invariably lay in that boxes. Only problem I had is that male used to excavate the nest and eat some or all of the freshly laid eggs. This is easily prevented by removing male in separate terrarium when female is obviously gravid.
