sir you just saved me 1500$ for new laundry machine for an 80 dollar part. I didn't think I would be able to get out the iner tub! you are a god send thank you so muhc 🙏🙌
Exactly the question I had as a repair vid was shown on a non Gallery model. I'll have to haul the whole thing outside to fix it and I also thought it would be a hell of a lot more if I had to dissect the whole body to get the tub out. Parts are on the way. Thanks Much! (I've already fixed the dryer so here I go... again :-)
Very, very helpful, thak you, I been reparing my laudry center for more than 20 years, of course my wife hates this kind of information since it avoid her from getting a new one.
I am in the middle of this repair! Thanks for the video. I have watched it several times . The water disperser into the tub is in the way. I wonder does it pull out? Be careful the edges on the unit are sharp. I am wearing gloves now!
What took you 45 minutes to complete took me 4 days just to remove the agitator, because my unit had a bolt that was rusted solid to the top of the transmission. My current struggle is with removing the inner tub, which is, you guessed it, rusted solid to the transmission shaft. Ah, the joys of DIY repairs. I hope I can get this done before I run out of clean underwear! LOL
Thanks. This saved me a lot of grief. The clips are a pain and thanks to your video I just pulled the drum forward and pulled out the inner drum. Not pretty but it worked.
Really good video, many thanks. Biggest challenge so far is popping those tabs holding the top of the tub without breaking them or figuring how to reach the ones in the back. I'll get it. Thanks.
I'm having the same problem. My arms are all scratched up. I can't get the one in the very back off without one of the others clicking back in place. How did you do it?
Great Video. I just have one question, does the tub have to leak as it fills or when the wash cycle starts? My tube fills up fine. No leaks. But when the wash cycle starts, I get a trickle of water from the center. This video has me zeroing in on the seal. Can I run the washer with the top and side off to watch where the water comes from? I mean how did you know where the water came from unless you ran the washer?
First, make sure your model is the one in the video. I spent a week getting my inner tub out with a bottle jack and 2x4. Then, chiseling the inner tub hub out with a hammer, just to find out my model, the inner tube ring gets inserted through the bottom of the tub through the drive shaft.
Finally a video, with a similar washer/dryer to the one I have! On the cover between the inner and outer drum sections on the washer, how does one get it out? I am having problems getting both the rearmost snap tab unsnapped and also not succeeding in jostling the cover out the one time I it was unsnapped before it resnapped itself.
All good and well. It was all for not. I bought my unit when it was brand new from Sears. Come to find out. That the manufacturer welded the washer gear case. To the center washer trunnion. The whole time I thought it was rust.
So glad I found this video! I was about ready to remove the whole dryer 😮. Did you have trouble getting the trunnion off? Build-up or oxidation? Mine was really stuck, and had to cut the whole thing off and buy a new one.
About to tackle this and the tub bearing and was wondering how to take it apart without removing the top unit. Thanks! Looks to be the same as my GE model and the Frigidaire/Electrolux OEM replacement parts are half the price of GE. Hope they work!
If it's the equivalent model, the only way is to either remove the whole tub or do it like this in the video. You just have to pull the tub forward a little bit to remove the inner tub.
Oh wow. We're in Murrells Inlet area. Maybe well cross paths in the near future. I'm am currently selling the appliance repair business if you know anybody interested. Thanks for watching.
Hi Jason, I ´m trying to solve it by myself , I need to take the agitator up but It´s very hard I have seen some gays take it out by using a rope around the base of the agitator and pull it real hard out , don´t you have some other idea easier for my ´cause I´m afraid to break the plastic , warm greetins from Queretaro, Mex, and Tkank´s for your help.
Hey Jason, once you have the inner tub out, is it hard to replace the tub seal? Do you just remove the 2-bolt shaft clamp, exposing the tub seal, and lift the seal up and off? Or is the actual seal replacement process trickier? Do you need to fabricate an installation tool out of plastic pipe to install the new tub seal?
I would have actually liked to see you do the stuff you just talked about. Of ocurse, that would have required someone else to hold the camera while you worked.
Yes, some are. A lot of the older appliances were manufactured by 1 company and brand labeled another. For example, most of the stack washer/dryer combos 15+ years old were manufactured by frigidaire/electrolux, but had GE logos on them.
Thank you for the video. Questions??? My outer tub was scraping and now there is a leak. Can I just use silicone to repair the leak? I am guessing it is due to balance issues?
@@JasonGut I was able to get the slit sealed, but it still scrapes. I give and just want to replace the washer but I need to but the entire stacked unit. UGGGG
@@StephanieWells1999 Gotcha. The bearing is probably so worn that it allows the inner tub to rub the outer tub. Unfortunatly it would probably be best to replace the unit as a whole. But you can continue to use the washer until it stops completly, just be careful of a leak/flood.
A different brand stacked washer on YT shows a replacement tub/motor assembly being installed. If the bearing or transmission fail I would price that before making a repair or replace decision.
Finally figured out after tearing my forearms apart that if you unclip the ones in the back first and move to the front then it is easy to take it off. after unclipping pull the whole drum forward from the top and pull the drum top off.
I installed the new tub seal. It sits tightly in the cup. The metal ring and washer are tight against it. But just pouring a little water on the new tub seal exposes a leak from the bottom of the tub. It looks like it's coming from the bearing. Even if the bearing needs replaced, wouldn't the tub seal prevent water from leaking through the bearing? Please help.
I would think that the seal is faulty or has been replaced crooked. The bearing itself could be bad but it wouldn't let water through. Normally the seal goes bad first, then the bearing goes bad due to it getting wet. So I would recheck the seal installation and condition. Hope this helps!
I bought the FGX831FS5 used 4 years ago. 3 months ago, it started making a loud noise during the spin cycle. It sounds like it's at the upper part of the drum. Plastic rubbing on plastic. It seems logical that it's an issue with the Tub Bearing. What's your opinion?
Ok, so those are for the lid switch. What you should do is put the plastic plug on first where it fits (should only fit one way). Then, put the 2 remaining wires on the 2 terminals that are left. It wont matter to which terminal the last 2 wires go because it's just a open/close switch.
Jason Gut I greatly appreciate it. I stressing to find out which of the 2 wires go into which of the 2 terminals on the switch. Thank you. You the man!
Just the make sure, on the plastic plug I have the red wire on the farthest to the right terminal and the white is the closest to me. Or does it not matter if it’s upside down?
Hey Jason, good video. But at least FIVE people have asked you how to remove the top. Why don't you at least have the courtesy to respond since this is a very important step? I am having the same problem.
Sorry about that. You have to remove the bottom front cover of the washer by taking the 2 screws off at the bottom, and then the cover slides down to unclip the top, and then will come off. Then, there are 2 screws holding the top cover on- once you remove the front cover of the washer, you can see where the 2 screws that hold the top cover on. Once those 2 screws are off, the top cover slides forward and off. Lastly, you have to unplug the lid switch for the washer lid. Hope this helps.
@@JasonGut Yes, it helped immensely. Thank you. I didn't mean to make you feel bad. Every video I've seen neglects to show this. They already had the top off as you did. You are not the only one.
the seals only last about 15 years. water tight packing design should be improoved. or a cone used to elevate it above the water. could put the clamp at the top or use a gnarled connect and ring nut instead
