I think Cannons were protesting thier last match with Ethan when he did quit after his core was destroyed prematurely. It froze the server for few minutes and after he rejoined (everyone waited for him) he won the match and eliminated Cannons. Not cool.
You got the teams confused. It was Gengar and Butterdog (team GYAT) who lost that laggy game against EtaN, not Tar and Helicopter (team Cannons Winners).
Oh, and speaking of that match between FV and GYAT, if you saw what happened to EtaN from the perspective of his screen, you would know why he got so pissed, and rightfully so. The whole game lagged out precisely just as he was being targetted by nukes, making him unable to defend (the boxes he built just straight up fell apart immediately). It was *him* who got screwed over. The reason he left the room is because he went to replays to get evidence of what happened, but that lobby was such a trainwreck that it didn't even save any replay for him to investigate. That match was a disaster from a stability perspective.
I'm all for meme strats with Phantom on left side but both sides not even willing to actually win and wasting 30 mins until someone on left side decided to write "42 is gay" even though it not appropriate in an official match is just... kind of disappointing to me.
@@lukebushby3908 42 Scientist is one of the commentators besides Incursus, he is also part of the Forts developer (I think). I have no idea whether they are mad on 42 or just messing around with him but that is not cool in an official match. Please do it in private lobby.
@@kwaad2 No it wasn't? That profile pic with the hammer and sickle logo belongs to Salzwerk, a German Forts streamer. 42 scientist is the one with Heinz Doofenshmirtz for a profile pic.
Interesting to see the polarized comments. I hope to see both teams again from the first round, asking for a ban would be taking it too far. Memes were expected, memes were delivered. Thanks for the video.
You can't excuse all behavior by "oh it's just memes". Memes are fine, but not when it disrupts an official event and involves rude messages on public display. Going minigun spam, sniper spam, AP sniper rush, using a magnabeam, building a portal accelerator
@@vykro_eng It feels like you're interpreting calling someone gay as hateful when it really isn't. Did you actually watch their gameplay and think that they were trying to be rude? Public or private match, I think that behavior like this doesn't need to warrant any punishment outside of what they recieved. It was never that deep. Advocating for a ban is more hateful than the behavior in question, as it'd be implying there is homophobia or the like when there simply isn't any. Regarding memes, using meme strategies isn't the only meming gameplay. In the context self destruction wasn't really a strategy and more of a liability, but they did it because it was funny. And by saying 'not actually playing the game', I assume you mean taking the game seriously. Correct me if I am wrong in this interpretation. But meme strategies like you listed would also be considered not actually playing the game. Overall you could consider the behavior obnoxious, but it's kind of a reach and to do so makes you look like a pedant.
@@meeplymoon8391 I'm sorry but I'm afraid that yes, it was in fact "that deep", and yes, they were trying to be rude. And spiteful in particular. Some time ago Helicopter did actually change his nickname to "42 is gay" on the official discord and promptly got a warn for that. Clearly this is not a message that's wanted to be on display. As for the latter part, playing the game using meme strategies = still playing the game. Attempting to defeat the opposing team (whatever the means may be) = still playing the game. Stalling, building insults and other random stuff without actually dealing any damage = not playing the game. It really isn't that unusual to expect the players in an official pro event to try to take each other down and eventually conclude the game. Like I wrote in another comment: If you come to see a pro chess match, you don't really come to see the players put the board aside and instead scribble doodles on a piece of paper, and no sane person would think that's okay. What IS okay on the other hand is stuff like "bongcloud" - a joke opening that on occassion was performed by some chess masters during tournaments. You see the difference yet?
@@vykro_eng With the context given I can better see the advocacy for a ban, but yet again I don't see it as severe. Unless there are additional actions from helicopter and the like then I simply don't agree that these actions are deserving of much moderation. I'll restate my previous point, to take it personally would just be perpetuating homophobia where it doesn't have to be, calling someone gay does not have to be an insult. It is not that deep. There comes a point where moderation is appropriate, whether the aforementioned actions is deserving of that or not is ultimately up to 42scientist and related staff, our opinions on the matter may not even be heard. But personally I don't want forts to be a league that is overly critical of borderline harmless banter, which I feel what you're advocating for is a step towards. To summarize, I admit the behavior was inappropriate but the disciplinary action given was enough. On to the next, I agree that it's normal to expect players to take the game seriously. You posted “Building a ‘x is gay’ message out of wood and not actually playing the game, taking up everyone's time”, and it seems like you were initially critical of the gay comment and not about the gameplay. Is the gameplay the problem or is the comment? It’s pretty clear that neither side engaged in meaningful combat and both are liable for ‘wasting everyone’s time’. To not straw man your example, I’ll just assume that you meant to say that both the gameplay and the comment were inappropriate for an official event. That’s subjective and to call it obnoxious might not be incorrect but it’s a little harsh. Starting to feel like a broken record here but I really can’t say it enough; it isn’t that deep. It’s super easy to move on from a troll match like this, even in an official context. I say there’s nothing wrong with light hearted trolling, the teams didn’t even get a chance to perform competitively mind you. Do you disagree?
@@vykro_eng I found some additional information. "Helicopter has been regularly disrespectful towards our moderators, and to do it online during the finals stream was the final straw." - noze "We’re trying to build up the FPL to be a successful, respectable event and his behaviour was beyond counter productive." - noze Makes sense! Helicopter was the only one to be permanently banned, and I would agree that it was appropriate. Explains a lot. ;3
I was looking forward to the meme strat bronze matches. Im a bit disapointed in both teams. By all means, have fun, everybody can take a joke, but keep in mind that when you are in those matches, you represent the forts professional playerbase. To the viewers, the rest of the playerbase, the devs, potential new Sponsors... to the whole comunity. I think that there was no bad intention in the match, but the teams just kinda forgot themselves and went a bit overboard. So the organizers had to take action to keep future tournaments professional.
The finals were really exciting. It's cool to see the match go the distance and be so close! And I'm happy to see more build diversity this season - it felt like Pinchfist was in pretty much 70% of the games before, and now there's much more variety. Thank you guys for making these, I love to watch FPL ^^

@@TrainMann Id say the only problem would be the sponsors, because of the spelling, instead of anything else. Likely why only the spellers, Cannons Winner was disqualified.
would be weird to ban gyat for no reason, its common that bronze matches are whoever trolls the best, wins. In cannon winners they just spelled out "gay" and its seen as a slur now which is cringe.
@@GenGrilli They were using it in a clearly derogatory way (intentionally or unintentionally, it still is not okay), which in an official tournament doesn't fly.
I'm happy to see some high tier memeing on the looser's bracket :) It's good fun :D Maybe avoid insults in the future however? I doubt this was exactly necessary to have fun
I skipped to that time stamp after looking at the mood of the comments, and I'm scared to check what they did. From what I saw in a frame preview on the video time line, they built a lot on both ends, so was it them building and not shooting at all, thus dragging out the match and wasting everyone's time?
@@Maelum_ That plus some structure building by Cannons Winner that spelled out a message that I'm not going to repeat here, calling out one of the game devs.
@@GenGrilli Given that the game is getting corporate sponsorships now, and this stunt potentially puts that at risk? The expected level of professionalism has gone up, clearly, else they wouldn't have been disqualified.
The first match was a total disaster for Forts' e-sport. Extreme waste of time and disrespect should never be a part of FPL, but now it went live in a serious sponsored event. It was great to see steps of improving pro league for us - players - and for you - viewers. Acquiring sponsor, additional prizes for winners, split camera, instant replay, etc. But that match is a huge setback. It is not the actions themselves what are main concern(just idiots playing), but the place where it was performed AND HARM it has done to this game. Imagine getting a sponsor after this garbage has been streamed in main event. Could compare it to chess event where friends decided to shat on playing board. It would be funny only for them and some other individuals, not for organizers and most of the people. Playstyle in that match was orchestrated by Helicopter & Gengar - known discord and in-game toxics. As i am writing this comment Helicopter is already permabanned - rightfully and deserved. Today Forts' community got a lot of cleaner, as garbage has been throw out. The only issue i have about administration is that they didnt react faster, and they should disqualify both teams. I don't know if butter dog was taking any actions to stop this shit show, but Tar was trying. I see that people refer to previous events where matches for bronze were meme macthes. Terrible argument, because these matches are not event comparable. Other bronze games were with meme strats - which would most likely not work - but each time there were attemps to win, simply players didnt care about the risk of those strats not working. Here we had double sided truce with no attempts or whatsoever to play - only to waste time. It is even worse knowing that finals were AFTER this match. Pointless waste of time. Call to disqualify them saved me 2 hours of time, as i was finals participant. Rules require as to display good sportsmanship at all times. Respect opponents, league admins, streamers, and viewers. There was no change to rules, they got disqualify according to rules.
out of curiosity is there any real info/explanation on why these two teams broke from the usual basic meme strats to just outright goofing around for so long? I've watched enough of these to recognize familiar names and i've never seen any of them just give up on at least trying, especially in FPL.
You mean like that time where Magnus Carlson and hikaru, two grandmasters, decided to, at the end of an official chess tournament, both play what is likely the worst opening possible called “the bongcloud”?
@@gavinc1998They didn't deliberately stall the event - they were making moves, staying on time, and did not write "THE CASTERS ARE GAY" on the chess board for all the world to see. Most chess tournaments would immediately DQ you for anything of the sort. It's absolutely fine to use risky or even funny builds. It's not OK to scare off sponsors and invite political/culture war scandal, jeopardizing other players' and organizers' careers and livelihoods.
I agree they were in the wrong, and thanks for writing this. The good sportsmanship clause is in the rules exactly for this type of behavior. And it's worded like this exactly to be a catch-all clause - you can't possibly anticipate and write down all the ways a bad-faith party can try to disrupt an event like this. If you ban them from writing swear words, they'll just draw a dick and balls, etc. etc. I hope it's not going to be such a big deal though. In the meantime, I'll just keep supporting and watching FPL! Thank you for the great games, Dranistian! I'm a big RTS fan and FPL is probably my top-2 esport to watch, right after SC2 - and above Brood War, believe it or not.
round 1 (of the finals, to be clear) was REALLY high-level forts. I kept thinking that to myself over and over. Everyone was rushing well, building well, the timings were impeccable, there was no cheese... even the switch to nukes, though it ended up being a bit too slow in the end, was well-executed and might have let them sneak a kill and even out the game. In terms of, like, optimized gameplay? I think that might have been one of the best matches I've ever seen.
Derr Benzi is my favorite "villain" player. I always enjoy watching him play, and he is very good, but I usually cheer for his opponent. And I think Etan is in the same category. We all love watching him play, but we all cheer for whoever is trying to take him down.
I think that the main issue wasn't exactly that they were having fun and messing around, but mostly that the Forts community has been trying so hard for a long time to get recognized a bit more and they just finally got their first sponsor. The behavior of team cannons winner was a bit too much, hence the DQ. Especially considering it will now be much more difficult to find another sponsor
@@jcbdly616 yeah, not fun when spelled out in a historically derogatory way. Saying gay is not bad, but when the sentence it is used in has a clear negative connotation for it, it turns derogatory.
Both teams/players in the first match should get banned from future events and tournaments. Right team for a year and left team permabanned. If they don't want to play, just drop your cores and get out of the game, not do this EDIT: The main reason is that if you want to be taken serious in any way as a somewhat serious event, you NEED to act and not let it slide at all. If you ever hope to get a sponsor in the future you cannot let it slide. It is not only against the integrity of the event, but it will literally make you unable to be sponsored.
I wouldn't say banned. This is a first time occurrence and there likely aren't any rules against it. But for these games I personally expect competitive play where players take things seriously and showcase their competitive skills and strategies. Going forward, I wouldn't mind if the organizers were less tolerant to these sorts of antics.
@@VeilingSun the question i have is why they both decided to meme around. All four players are regular tryhards in tournaments and aren't known for trolling. Maybe i missed it but i don't recall hearing them explain it.
I haven't watched forts for a long time. I decided to watch again. I'm watching with my kid. I got 12 minutes into the first match and realize that this is terrible as a match, and not appropriate (I've been able to watch Incursus content with my kid before). Really sad what Forts has apparently turned into with this being a Tournament Grand Final. Don't suspect I'll be checking in again after another few months absence.
I don't care for memeing in bronze match, usually makes it fun to watch but the disqualification was waranted. That was a childish way to protest the results from the previous round. Really sad to see alot of the comments in here, i expected better from the Forts community. There's a way to protest, and this wasn't it.
@@qctomh Just for the record, it was the right side (Gengar and Butterdog) who lost to EtaN and Dranistian, not left side (Helicopter and Tar). It was one of the players from the left team who came up with the idea to troll during this match, and the left side who got disqualified. Also, judging from communications on official discord, I don't think they were protesting anything. They just went up like "hey, wanna do some trolling during bronze game?". Which is a great idea btw, just the execution was horrible.
A shame that in a game where meme/cheese rounds can be a hilarious addition that they decided to disqualify and end the match for a couple of teams who were just having fun in a game they love and already couldn't win.
It wasn't the use of a meme strat that resulted in the DQ. Seriously, go back and watch it, and note the exact moment they made the decision to issue the DQ. It's not hard to see why.
Bad take. There is nothing wrong with meme/cheese strats, but that was not why they have been disqualified here. The important distinction is that usually when someone is using a meme/cheese strat, *they are still playing.* They are still attacking the opponent, dealing damage, potentially winning. Here though not only both sides were just playing a sandbox, holding up the event, and wasting everyone's time, but also drawing insults towards the staff on screen. Oh, did I forget to mention that this was a sponsored event?
@@vykro_eng I can understand where you are coming from, while I don't personally agree with the DQ, in an official setting I get why it happened. But a ban is too much for the players, the only thing in the rules for this match was a vague description of having good sportsmanship. I can get how you can argue that it wasn't good sportsmanship to the organizers, but in the future the event should tell the players they shouldnt do something before you claim they are wasting everyones time.
@@Gingerfeck829 I don't think "don't draw insults towards staff members" is something that really needs to be added into the event rulebook. If someone doesn't have enough foresight to follow this without being told, they deserve everything that's going to happen to them. And neither is "you should actually be playing the game, with the intent of defeating the other team and concluding your match". If you come to compete in an official event, you are expected to play the game - simple as that. It is an obvious expectation, and attempting to rules-lawyer your way around that doesn't help. If you come to watch a pro chess tournament, you don't expect the players to put the board aside and start drawing dick pics and "host sucks" with crayons on a piece of paper, and no sane person is going to argue that this would be fine. And for the record, doing memes, or otherwise "funny stuff" is not forbidden. It was even encouraged. It's the "holding up the game by not actually fighting (while being insulting to the staff)" part that was the problem.
It's absolutely OK in a private game. It's not OK in a professional tournament with money and sponsorships on the line. The studio, casters and sponsors have a professional reputation to maintain. Unfortunately, video games are a controversial, high-drama industry to be in right now. Studios, casters, developers, even whole platforms get cancelled, review-bombed, ostracized, boycotted, shadow-banned all the time. Some unscrupulous UA-cam channels get hundreds of millions of views covering video game drama and blowing up any tiny thing into a scandal that even reaches mainstream media. At the end of the day, Incursus, 42, the devs of the game - their livelihood depends on the success of these tournaments. These people are working their asses of to get the game and the tournaments off the ground. It's quite inconsiderate to potentially scare away their first ever sponsor by sparking another culture wars scandal.
Im all for clowning in the bronze match but that was just like... Dumb middle school cringe. I don't even think it was all that offensive, but like, obviously you're gonna get DQ'd on a sponsored tournament if you decide to do that. It was just... Dumb. Id rather see clowning in the form of ridiculous strategies over watching 8 year old humor laboriously drawn out over thirty minutes
But still don't get why we have someone with a communist regime sign in the profile pic. How is that more appropriate than what happened in the 1st match?
Are you seriously implying that communism should be banned like nazi ideology is? Nazis call for mass genocide, communism calls for worker rights like paid sick leave and a fair living wage. There's a reason why they're not treated the same - because they're not the same.
Since when is homophobia acceptable in this kind of social environment? There is private ribbing in private chats which can be taken in context but there is no need for there to be anything like this in public.
@@JellyFK It takes a lot to interpret this as homophobic.. You didn't consider at all that maybe you were jumping to a conclusion? Spelling out 42 is gay in a forts match isn't hateful in the slightest, there's nothing of substance it's just a joke. I want to thank incursus and the judges for putting their ban on the 1st team. I don't think they owe an explanation or need to update the rules. If you can't be commonly decent in the most professional and public facing tournament that the game has to offer then you don't belong here. I want this to be an inclusive place that attracts new players. You call some of those players a slur and you are going to drive away potential new friends. If they have to update the rules to include every fringe case that'll be the first nail in the coffin for the esport. As the ref from airbud said "Ain't no rules says a dog can't play basketball." Look at the infamously toxic street fighter scene. 2 players were going head to head in one fo the qualifiers P1 and P2. P1's controller disconnected due to a hardware fault (think windows update for the controller in the middle fo a match). The clock was ticking down fast and there was no way P1 would be able to sort this out in time. P2 didn't want to "win" due to a technical issue with his opponents hardware. Player 2 did what any good sportsman would, he gave his opponent a chance, so instead of taking the win he paused the game. P1 called over a ref and got P2 DQ'd. Because in street fighter if you disconnect a controller due to hardware fault then you get a warning. If you pause you get auto DQ'd. 2 totally seperate rules that had to be introduced because players were so toxic that they had to stop people from being idiots. The no pause rule was because people were purposfully pausing to mess up their opponents timing and they had to introduce a rule specifically to stop people "buffering" their opponents. I don't want to see that type of meta gaming brought into my forts tournies which is what happens when you have to codify every single edge case. It discourages sportsmanship and leaves only a toxic mess of sweats who know how to play the rules, not play the game.
Your "inclusiveness" didn't work out for Concord or any other games for that matter. Nobody cares about that. Actually most people hate it. This kind of oversensitive behavior will kill this game. If you don't like the gaming community then get out of gaming.
You're dead wrong. If the guy typed "42 is an idiot", he'd get the same reaction. The guy was toxic on the developer's official Discord server. He changed his nickname there to "42 is gay" to spite the mods and the devs (42 is a member of the staff). He got a warning and a ban. He escalated and took his petty beef to an official, sponsored, live event. This clearly jeopardized the work all of the orgs, devs and other pro players put into this thing. Go to a bar or a store and try repeatedly insulting a member of the staff there. You'll get thrown out either immediately or after a warning or two. This is exactly what happened. Simple as. Don't mess with people at their place of work, and don't try to ruin an event they're organizing. Don't be a Karen and don't start drama with the staff. You don't want to follow their rules? Then leave their premises.
after banning Cannons winter for disrespecting. You guys picked quite hard on EtaN. wich is fine in a group of freinds, but for a livestreamed event for the whole world. it's not fun to watch. Commentators should not be name calling. as a guy that has been bullied my entire childhood, now almost 40 with cripling anxitiy for the last decade and a half. i almost had to turn it off and walk away.
If you were offended by the first round, here's something you should be asking yourself. I'll be replacing the word in the perceived insult of round 1 with the word "Kay" so this comment hopefully won't get censored. Why is what they did considered offensive? If you truly believe that there's nothing wrong with being Kay, why do you perceive it as an insult when someone calls someone else that? Maybe they meant it as a compliment. Could it be that you think being Kay is a negative thing? I don't, and if you wanna take the power away from people saying it in a childish manner or as an insult, maybe getting offended by it isn't the best idea. That said, completely understandable why the devs decided to DQ the team. The current prevailing way of thinking isn't like mine, and people like to get offended by everything nowadays. If you aren't squeaky clean according to wider societal rules, you may not be afforded the opportunities you're seeking. Can't remember if this tourney is sponsored but at least one of them was sponsored by Razer I think. They probably don't wanna burn that bridge by allowing "offensive" acts to go unpunished.
Very disappointed with cannons winner and the match overall. I feel like my time was wasted in the first match and I came here to watch the top players compete. Why gyaaat didn’t just end the match is beyond me but disappointed overall. As a long time viewer I hope to never see a match like that again.
@@leon-np2xo We got less competitive forts content overall because a team was disqualified in the first match. My time was still wasted even if I didn’t watch the event live. I still had to scrub through that shit show of a match.
i still dont understand why are people upset that only 1 team was disqualified. GYAAT did nothing wrong and have no reason to be banned. Can people have no fun anymore?
You are more than welcome to have fun as much as you want, but perhaps in your own private lobby, not during an official, sponsored, streamed event. This is a pro league, not a kindergarten sandbox. All they did was waste everyone's time, including the time of the teams who were going to play the gold matches afterwards.
@vykro_eng even in events u can have some fun. Not everything needs to be serious. Thats what makes events fun - a situation that is different from others.
@@LiterallyMe459 You are correct, but also do not seem to understand what "not everything needs to be serious" really means. Of course not everything needs to be serious. That's why we have people going for meme strats in those games from time to time. But "not everything needs to be serious" does not equal "everything is allowed, anything can be justified, and there are no rules". The problem here was that not only team 1 was drawing insults on screen, but neither side was actually playing the game. GYAT fired miniguns or mortars every once in a while without much consequence, but other than that neither side was actually attempting to win or otherwise conclude the game. Now consider that while this was happening, there were two other teams waiting to play their final match, while casters and viewers had to sit through watching CW and GYAT mock about and waste everyone's time. Trolling in a bronze match is a great idea, but there were so many better ways to do it, without causing harm.
I hope Cannons Winner is permabanned. It's called the pro league for a reason and not the derp league. I also would have expected better from Gyaaat but at least I know from past matches how entertaining they can be. Just wished that they'd finished Cannons Winner off a lot sooner
I diagree with how the DQ was handled there. Pro forts has always had cheese matches, where neither opponent takes things seriously and the match just goes on until someone dies. It's just part of the "pro" culture, where the best get an opportunity to show off what high level shenanigans looks like. Perhaps some people would rather see 2 teams tryhard it out for third place, but that's not the kind of community that tends to be very positive. There should be reasonable tolerance for fun, as that is what creates funny and enjoyable moments. There's time for serious play, and there's time for goofing off. To be honest, anyone that claims that they were bored or that it's unprofessional hasn't been around long enough to see enough tournaments to understand why it occurred. I also think that this wasn't an independent call of the tournament organizers, with the way it was just "Yep this one team is DQ'd, next match. No discussion". Without any official word, I can only speculate that either the sponsor, or said dev insulted stepped in and ordered it to be so. Even if a DQ was warranted, it should clearly be explained why and how, since this has never been an issue before. I'd like to see an official announcement as to why this occurred. With regard to the specific behavior that triggered the DQ, if it was simply the unserious nature of the tournament, both teams should be disqualified instead of just one. It's clear from the beginning that neither team intended to "compete" in the traditional way. (which should be fine, this has never been a problem and is part of the community). If it was the message directed at 42 that triggered the ban, we deserve to know why, and who ordered the DQ. Was this a longstanding rule that messages like that would get you DQ'd? Was it a on the spot decision, and if so by who? Was it decided by the entire tournament hosting team? Did 42 barge into the room and hold the hosters hostage until they called a DQ (ha ha ha)? Was this to try and appease the sponsor?. Either way, we deserve to understand. Oh, and since I'll inevitably get someone replying to this comment saying I'm supporting what cannons winner called 42, let me make it clear: I'm not. Calling the dev's of any game names is pretty usual, and It's reasonable to be joking around like that, but in this case it should have stayed within reason. Calling someone the thing that was said (saying it would get this comment blocked probably) isn't acceptable, but there should have been clearer communication. It would have been fine to just go "hey, guys, you can't say that. This is a sponsored stream and that sort of joking around puts our sponsorship at risk, therefore we're just going to call this set of matches since clearly nobody's taking it serious". Or if just not taking it seriously was the problem, they could have simply told the teams "hey, we're going to call it here if you guys aren't intending to play the rest of the matches seriously. Would like to play seriously or should we call it?" Again, transparency is key here. To the regular viewer, we can't tell if this is a revenge DQ, or a rule violation, or trying to appease the sponsor. Please make an official announcement (here, where it won't get buried and is visible. A community post would be great) to make this more transparent. Note that I came into the stream around the end of match, and have scrolled through the match to see what happened. If someone made a very brief comment at some point I may have missed it.
I think it's pretty clear it had nothing to do with them messing around game wise, it was about what they wrote. There's been plenty of other instances before in FPL and tournaments of people not taking things seriously just like this, it's just (iirc) none of those included homophobic insults. I know some people don't understand how hurtful it can be because gamer culture throws slurs around like normal insults, but it's something that's clearly not ok and good on 42 for taking a stand against it.
@@FumbleSquid It's a bit ridiculous to call what they wrote a "homophobic insult" or a "slur". I guess when they changed it to "I am gay" after that, it should've been considered as coming out?
@Skellum_ What makes or doesn't make a slur is context. Basically when gay is used as an insult or used to denigrate, it is a slur. Also the difference between a slur and a normal insult is that a slur is in reference to a historically oppressed/disadvantaged group. It can be more complicated than that, for example context changes based on who is saying it and the target as well. Language is complex, but it's not that complex. You just have to use basic social skills to understand it.
@@FumbleSquid Erm, by my basic social skills calling someone gay, or calling yourself gay is childish, but not an insult or a slur. Unless one chooses to take it as an insult, but that is on them then. I would argue that _this_ would be homophobic actually, like, if you can't take such a mild jab lightly, you might have a problem. This is simply by definition: phobia = fear of something. So, if one is afraid of his masculinity shattered by someone implying he's gay, I have bad news for such person. :D
@@Skellum_ Again, the context is that being gay = bad. That's what makes it *contextually* a slur. It all depends on how, who, and why it is being said. Also phobia doesn't just mean that. That again is defining things outside of context. Phobia can also mean irrational aversion, irrational denigration, or irrational bias. Words can have multiple meanings based on how they're used. The players have already made it clear to the community admin a week prior, that they were gonna do the scheduled troll bronze match
Why was that first match even allowed to be posted or not cut short when it was clear that the content was unacceptable? I hope this is not what is expected in the future with Forts Pro League.
Why do you care so much? I’ve seen you write so many comments on this video. If you have actual grievances talk to them, don’t complain about it here. Edit: I’m not saying what cannons winner did is ok, I am simply saying it’s also not that deep
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 that first match. I'm sorry, 42. Pro league or not, it is still just a game after all. However this isn't the expected gameplay out of the pros.
Imagine one of the players at a basketball game came in wearing a shirt that said "The ref is gay". They would be banned for life, if not sued. Even way below NBA, like an interschool tournament, you'd get DQ'd instantly. (Funnily enough, I think that at a casual basketball match between amateur teams, if you called someone who isn't a close friend "gay" to deliberately offend them, the consequences might be even more directly painful...). The devs, tournament orgs and pro players are putting a ton of work into these events. They want the tournament to grow and to award actual cash prizes to the winners. For the devs and casters, it's their livelihood we're talking about. For pro players - a chance to turn their passion into a career. I, as a viewer, would like to see that too. It's "just a game" during a casual stream or on ladder. Nothing wrong with calling each other names or saying weird shit there. But it's no longer "just a game" during a professional event, where people have invested a lot of work into it and their job is at stake.
It's not up to him to decide. The devs may lose the sponsor, the casters and tournament orgs will lose a huge growth opportunity, and the other pro players might never see their passion turn into an actual career. So I'd definitely want Cannons Winner banned if I was a dev, a player or a castere, because my livelihood is at stake. Even if 42 directly asked not to ban that team, I'd kindly ask him to shut up, cause it's not only him that suffers the consequences.
That match was a disaster from a stability perspective.
thank you for the context❤
I'm all for meme strats with Phantom on left side but both sides not even willing to actually win and wasting 30 mins until someone on left side decided to write "42 is gay" even though it not appropriate in an official match is just... kind of disappointing to me.

"Helicopter has been regularly disrespectful towards our moderators, and to do it online during the finals stream was the final straw." - noze
"We’re trying to build up the FPL to be a successful, respectable event and his behaviour was beyond counter productive." - noze
Makes sense! Helicopter was the only one to be permanently banned, and I would agree that it was appropriate. Explains a lot. ;3
I was looking forward to the meme strat bronze matches. Im a bit disapointed in both teams.

Both teams/players in the first match should get banned from future events and tournaments. Right team for a year and left team permabanned. If they don't want to play, just drop your cores and get out of the game, not do this

As the ref from airbud said "Ain't no rules says a dog can't play basketball."
Look at the infamously toxic street fighter scene.

They probably don't wanna burn that bridge by allowing "offensive" acts to go unpunished.

i still dont understand why are people upset that only 1 team was disqualified.
Just wished that they'd finished Cannons Winner off a lot sooner
nah that's gay
Would like to play seriously or should we call it?"
Again, transparency is key here.
This isn't hard to understand.
I am not getting why only one of the first two teams got disqualified.
Because GYAAAAAAT didn't spell anything out insulting one of the game devs.
@@pyrioncelendil erm... game dev's name is "42" I guess? That's more understandable, although a bit petty (and a bit childish from gyaaat).

That first match is just a good way to lose any sponsors. Also I REALLY hope Graaaat wasnt going for a certan pinwheel symbol....
...That's an amongus.... there's like 3 of em in the base
2:19:49 howitzers are bigots smh
Why did I have to watch that first game
Probably because this was a livestream and the streamers can't predict the future so they'd have no idea that this was going to happen during a match.
@@pyrioncelendil they knew it was gonna be a troll match, they talked about it before the match started about what troll strats they were gonna see coming from both teams.
Because it was a livestream, duh.
How is that unacceptable?
That's pure distilled gaming fun.
Good call on the ban, that kind of rehtoric is not needed.
Of course the guy with that profile picture DQs someone for writing something in a video game, such a baby.
Cannon winner, my beloved!
