Matt Frank also worked on multiple Godzilla comics and artwork, so he knows how to draw dinosaurs and kaiju in general
Thats an understatement, the guy loves kaiju he even made a comic about the official origin story of gamera, (90s gamera, not kid friendly gamera😂)

I like the idea that there's a group of faux-Dinobots just hanging out and having misadventures in some obscure corner of the galaxy
Stories and places like this make the _Transformers_ universe so much wider than the war between the Autobots and Decepticons on Cybertron and Earth.

Would make sense. Honestly weird to me that there's not a lot more Cybertonians that just bailed from the war, if only to do their own things.
@@Umbra_Ursus Given that transformers seem to be a very unique species with a closed social and eco-system on Cybertron, they may not have much to do with their lives beyond it.
If Hasbro doesn’t make toys for them I hope a Third Party Company does.

Imagine a collab with Creative Beast Studio. They could at least source some of the best creature designers for the beast modes.

I love how this group acts more like a family just living their lives, a breath of fresh air from all the wars and stuff-
This being the first time I ever heard of the Raptoricons, I must say I am absolutely in love with them! The beast modes showing varying raptor depictions throughout recent history is just such an incredible theme, showing the progress of mankind's understanding of these ancient creatures. The robot modes are equally stunning and beautiful, with Slice and Thrash easily being my favorites. Can't wait to see more of these ladies!
I feel the same way! I love how Thrash's arms are similar to BW Megatron only with missiles instead of lasers.
@@Gaarafan007 And a properly whip-like tail-arm! The weird shield/crab-claw thing Meg's T. Rex tail would turn into never really felt like something a tail should turn into. Still cool, but Thrash's flowy whip-arm is much more interesting to me.
@@riohudson9612 Transmetal Megatron's tail weapon was quite flexible, but then he no longer had a head hand...and transmetal 2 Megatron had the head complete it's migration across his body to be the opposite arm while still being flexible like his 2nd form's tail. It's actually only while I type this that I realize Megatron's beast head migrated across his robot body from form to form...
@@Gaarafan007 That is a very interesting detail. The beast head moving from right to left seems intentional, but I honestly could never say to what.
Perhaps it's progressing towards his transition through transmetal. Not necessary symbolic more than it is showing a drastic change over time as Megatron's body is more drastically changed by transmetal.

Seeing an episode about a group of female Transformers that have only appeared on a single prose story (And we’re later referenced on Beast Wars: Uprising) wasn’t something that I expected, but I appreciate it (Especially if that means that we could get more episodes about other club stories like Classics or the Wings Universe)
NGL, it feels weird for bots like this to have somehow never appeared anywhere else.
Well I guess it's probably a unintended cure for MCU-induced "everything is connected syndrome"
Alright, after watching this. I'm invested with the Raptoricons, their concept and character personalities are so interesting. I really wish we can see more of them in the future.

The Tyranosaurus Rex is actually one of the Dinosaurs that didn't have feathers even under the modern scientific model. Sweeop and Dinobot from Beast Wars are Feather Dino's though I think.
The Raptors depicted in modern day culture were actually a dinosaur named Deinonychus. I think Jurassic park was the first culprit of this misconception. These days that's just what most people think Raptors were but they're two very different dinosaurs.
So basically these characters should be called the Deinonychusicons lol 😂
@@joshoshea3194Different, but closely related species. It would not be inappropriate to call them raptors (just not velociraptors) as that is a term used to even describe some of their modern day descendants like hawks. Plus it rolls off the tongue much better than Deinonychus.
As for the movie, iirc, they were aware that real velociraptors were fairly small and made them larger to be the scary movie monster/villain while still calling them velociraptors and then after production, found out about Deinonychus.

Good lord they're so danm sexy. I'm guessing if they ever got toys it would have to either be 3rd party figures, or the desighns altered to be less... sexy.

Considering that most of their fans see the group in one of two ways Thrash and Slice as wives raising their daughters or see Thrash as a harem protagonist with the others fighting for her affection that would be a great way to piss off their actual fanbase

I think of myself as a pretty big TF geek, and never heard of those, and now I just want more of them. The designs and story they appear in are so cool, I'd love to see it adapted into more media and toys.

Love these girls! "Raptoricons" used to be my @ on Twitter (until I got banned for something stupid); I loved the OMAM stories, was very exciting to read them while they were coming out.
It's very interesting that Life Finds A Way was originally intended to be set in the Beast Wars universe - that expains a lot about the story's vibes!
I am of the Japanese Beast Wars generation.
I thought robots were cool at times, but they were the first robots that I thought were kawaii from the bottom of my heart. But in Japan, there was no way to find out about their activities, so I am grateful to you for putting this video together!
I really hope these girls make a grand return one day. Their story is super interesting and the designs are gorgeous!
What a interesting bunch of characters
Excellent work on the video on the Raptoricons, my friend! I've seen Matt's artwork in Deviantart, and they look too dang good! Imagine the Dinobots would recruited them as allies against the decepticons if they needed them. Especially Dinobot from Beast Wars too. And they do reminded me of the Raptor Squad from Jurassic World.

And then quickly realizing they’ll likely never get any kind of toy
Outstanding characters and the designs are absolutely brilliant.
This group as a four pack would be so fun. Especially since,despite being more or less then same type of dinosaur, they each clearly transform differently meaning we'd get some really unique toys.
I love that someone got ideas from the Jurassic world movie and created a squad of female transformers raptors.
I'm now invested in this group, really hope they get more recognition in the future

Love Matt Frank's work, especially his stuff with Godzilla so it's nice to see some of his other excellent pieces get a spotlight.
I remember Matt Frank making the Godzilla Neo images you can find on DeviantArt and on wikis. They are absolutely incredible! I'm impressed by the Raptoricons and their story.

I've noticed that each of the raptoricons' robot modes seems derived from existing Beast Warriors. Slice has a lot of design cues from Lio-Convoy. Shred seems to be derived from Rhinox. Gnash seems to be based on Snarl/Tasmania Kid. Thrashclaw is a very obvious Megatron homage.

I got to meet and speak with Matt at Botcon back in 2011. He was working on Godzilla with IDW at the time. Like me he's a huge fan of Both Godzilla and Transformers. I bought one of his awesome prints of Godzilla vs Trypticon, still framed and hanging in my room. He also shared with me some exclusive art for a comic that he was working on that came out about 6 months later. A fun experience all around. Would love to chat with him again sometime.

I love how these Raptoricons are based on different depictions of raptors while also acting as a close family unit. It would be awesome if they appear in later Transformers media.

I had come across the raptor icons before when researching for my transformers fan fiction. I had no idea who these bots were and figured they were made up by some fan, so I appreciate that you made this video explaining them to someone like me.

Trashclaw reminds me of Velocidrome from Monster Hunter. The red fur on the head looking like the red horn of a Velocidrome and the blue coloring

Legacys finished as a toyline though, not in the negative it's getting canceled way but rather the "we've reached the final planned wave" way (as far as anyone can tell anyway, given we know the name of the next generations subline)

I've been looking forward to this episode for a while. My plan for my upcoming novel series is that it adapts the Eukaris planet, characters and arc from the 2005 IDW comics, but the Raptoricons cold be imagined as some of Scale Walkers' elite guards and warriors under Dinobot (known in my continuity as Dinobot Magnus)'s command, similar to the Dora Milaje from Black Panther, with Thrashclaw being the Okoye to Dinobot's T'Challa. It's an interesting idea!! Plus, learning about their personalities really helps me with the planning stage of development. Thank you!

I love that slice transforms into my favorite dinosaur! Utahraptors have always had a soft spot for me since they’re basically what JP raptors wanted to be, just with cool feathers!

Finally some recognition for these obscure transformers! The girls deserve it, every bit of their journey from how they came to be up to their written story is precious. I really hope that they get a spotlight in the silver scrreen, they'd be ideal for an episode of a transformers anthology or even their own miniseries!
