I'm about to graduate to Alpahyue [Go, AU!! heh].. Excellent review. After listening closely to all the strings at the end of your video.. IMHO, I feel the Alphayue's are the winner! Thank yue !!
@@Fiddlershop I really enjoy your playing! I can sense real passion as you play. Music played without passion isn't music in my book! That Tchaikovsky concerto is one of my favorites. Two of my other favorites are Bruch's Scottish Fantasy, and Vieutemps' Concerto #5..
I have alphayue on my $ 100 violin and they improve the sound, and it's nice. Only the E string is too bright, not very warm, and sometimes a bit annoying, because it is not a synthetic core.
@@Fiddlershop I know this might not be on your list, but can you do a review of Pirastro Chromcor and Piranito? I use a set of Chromcors, and would like to know your thoughts on them.
Mairead Nesbitt loves these (because they have no settling in time) and talked me into getting a set of them. I did because they’re budget-friendly. I have yet to try them, though.
These are what my Pecard has and came with. I'm new so don't know but the e string is so damn hi pitch and loud. The string on this set is the only steel core. The rest are synthetic.
ooh, I'll add it to the list, but it'll probably be a while since they're not that popular (at least at our shop). But I am curious about them as well...mostly do they sound good playing anything other than the Monti Czardas?!?!?!?
@@Fiddlershop Haha) Thank you for your answer and for really intresting content! I'm also intrested about comparsion of different violin rosins (Andrea, Cecilia, Ddario Kaplan, Jumba).
How do you think the “easyness” to play for different brands? I tried Thomastik spirit for cello. I am a beginner and somehow this brand feels so much easier to press firmly for the right tone than another brand
That's a great question, and strangely enough, I think the ease of playability really has more to do with the soundpost and bridge placement/height. Sometimes instruments just feel like they're fighting back, or other times like I have to drag the string to get a sound. If I hand it to the luthier for some adjustments, it can many times feel like a completely different instrument with just a quick change. But, I do really love Thomastik, and Pirastro in general (nothing against Larsen or D'Addario, I just don't play them quite as often)
@@Fiddlershop i actually JUST purchased (literally 5 mins ago) a B-stock midnight tower strings violin with the fiddlerman strings with the new member coupon for $205 tax included!!! I'm so excited, what a bargain :)
My daughter has a temporary rental that came with these. We both kind of hate them. Thinking we will switch back to the Dominants she's loved so long as soon as we have an excuse to change the strings.
I went from dominant to alphayue and they sounded very metalic, I didn't like them. Only kept them on for a few days. Not sure if they just needed more time to settle in?
They sound thinner than Dominants. Really not the place to economize if you can get a better string (Yitzhak Perlman and Hilary Hahn play Dominants, and they could easily afford US$100 and above sets!!) for just 25 bucks more, why settle for these? At least these sound better than D'Addario's Ascenté strings in the same price range, which are truly awful. In your comparison, the Helicores sound the best by a wide margin, but then they cost as much as Dominants.
They must think of these names while under the influence of CRACK! or maybe drinking some some European arty-farty tea high brow with the pinky upraised and a bit of snobbery added in... LOL But anything you do is OK by me Michael. I kind of like the Helicore strings followed by a very close Fiddlerman strings. The others are meh... close but a bit spanzy. I just enjoy your videos so much. Thanks
Always looking forward to these string reviews from the channel!
I'm so glad you like them! (I'm trying to keep the rambling down)
Oh wow the best comparison ever! Nailed it 🙂 @6:50
Thanks for watching, Ruba!
Just moved to these strings for the first time from steel core. Looking forward to explore more
Please let us know how it goes! 🎻

Awesome. Yeah it's very common to use a separate E string like Westminster or Lenzner when the E from a set is a bust.
Actually all synthetic core string sets are always have steel E... Some have aluminum wound majority tin- plated .
Great review and comparisson with other standard strings...michael you are amazing...
Thank you kindly!
Yes! Another String review
More to come!

Mairead is so awesome! Yeah, definitely not a bad set of strings.
Fiddlershop She certainly is - and a living doll; a very humble, kind person!
im using prelude and the review from the other video was totally true and
want to try alphayue next time. :)
Great to hear!

On my antique violin it's very soft and unresponsive. Whereas the doms and visions are a dream on my violin.
Thanks for watching!
great video 👏
Glad you liked it, Eduardo!
thank you great job
Our pleasure!
شكراً ❤️
Please review for thomastik spirit
I'll add them to the list, but it's probably going to be a while..these take a long time to make unfortunately.
I have spirit on the wishlist as well
Please tell me what is better to choose for a student - Thomastic Alphayue or D'addario Ascente? Thanks!
I'm more of a fan of Thomastik Alphayue.
Can you do a review of Thomastik Lakatos?

Damn the fiddlerman strings sound so good 😕 i wish they were $20 too, but you get what you pay for i suppose
Thanks! Please keep your eyes open, these strings might go on sale soon (wink, wink) :)

1. Helicore 2. Prelude 3. Alphayue

Sounds like a plan! Every instrument is different, so if the Dominants sound better on her instrument, that's the way to go.
