Not surprised that F-16 reigns supreme at WVR, although if you guys were more familiar with the controls of JF-17, you might have done slightly better.

The JF-17 is turning out to be a pretty competent fighter.
It is surprisingly. Gave me some trouble in the F-16 at WVR, especially since the pilot seemed really competitive. It’s a dangerous machine in the right (or should I say wrong) hands

Not surprising, JF-17 the new dog on the block is now a real competitor against top fighter jets of the world !
Meh, Being about 30 years younger, it might have some advantages over other 4th gen Fighters + it's very cheap, but that's pretty much it. It's been on sale for over a decade now, yet they've build fewer than 200 of them. That's worse than the Saab Gripen. The Chinese definitely don't seem to want it and most other (potential) customers seem to be so dodgy, not even the French would sell them a MRCA in 2020. Last but not least, most info (and thus modelling-data) on it is from China, Pakistan or it's buddies - sources far less reliable than actual combat statistics.

JF’s RD-93 engine is the same as the Mig-29’s RD-33 just with the gearbox moved so it will fit in the JF

JF-17 is a real deal now.
Yes the modern missiles are very very good at not taking the flare bait.
If an 9x or a fox 2 from JF is fired at you and it tracks ... it will hit you 90% of times. What was proven to work in DCS is not to flare after the missile is fired but before. If you manage to dump a good amount of flares (not one or two) right before the missile leaves the pylon it has much bigger chances to take the bait.

Love the JF-17! I really am a fan of it! Here in Pakistan day and night they are flying! I live near the airport and it feels so good to hear their loud noise. So glad to see this become a part of DCS now! Looking forward to some cool GR missions with the it!
If the JF17 can fight like that in real life which it probably can, then that is an absolute phenomenal fighter because of its price tag of just 25 million! That's one heck of a fighter!!

Can you recreate historical dogfights? There is a History Channel video where they discuss the Duke Cunningham/Willy Driscoll Vietnam event in a U.S. Navy F-4 where they encounter and shoot down 3 MiG-17s in a day,but in the 3rd encounter they run into a superbly skilled pilot that instead of running goes vertical and engages them thru multiple rolling scissors before they basically pull the Top Gun braking move to force an overshoot and eventually putting a Sidewinder on him. They get hit by an SA-2 during their egress and are forced to stick with the plane until they got out over the water to eject and get rescued.
I wanna see what that looks like with this kind of HD realism.

They should enter the fight in the optimal turn speed. In the vid in one go's super fast and the other more or less at optimal turn speed. Gives funny results...
I wonder how a fight between the F20 tigershark and the JF17 would turn out?
F-20 was near an F-16's turning ability, so just have an F-16 fight it.
Lighter than F-16 but similar energy kinematics. F-20 a little less gas which helps with ACM but hurts dogfight endurance. Less frontal drag than F-16, smaller profile, so potentially superior acceleration in a number of flight regimes. An F-20 with the Super Hornet F414 would be a really potent weapon however, as that extra 4,300 lbs of thrust is almost an entire J85's worth of extra power, and a J85 is what our DCS F-5E has.

The USAF based tomcats and eagles are extremely great jets. As a pakistani, i would say its not as good as the newer jets of the time BUT it's getting better and better by time. Jf 17 is extremely lethal now but can definitely improve alot. Inshallah, it will make pakistanis proud just as the f 16s and tomcats and a10s make Americans really proud. I cannot stop but admire the a10s and tomcats, they're literally amazing. I had sweared to god if the pakistani airforce had bought a few a 10s i would have packed the bags and would have set off for the risalpur base. A10s are love ❤

You should have pilots of equal skill level flying the planes they’re best in. Because no tomcat pilot goes below 250 knots in a dogfight.
Not really fair considering the jefs been out 10 minutes, alsoI’m sure the jef pilots made lots of errors.
It was ridiculous to see Jef at 400+ knots and Tomcat at 250 knots when they merged
Most of the time jf lost is because of pilot mistakes.
IKR they barely knew how to fly it, didn't do it justice.

idk why they have used that engine in dcs because even the real jf block 1 is getting engine replacement and the 2nd block didnt have smoke prob

Intersting reading - the JF-17 is an evolution of the MiG-21 and the Chengdu J-7 (itself a MiG-21 Chinese reverse engineered copy). The initial JF-17 development program was headed by the Chinese, Americans (Grumman) & Pakistan. The Americans pulled out of it.

Half of your info is wrong. Americans did pulled out. It was a Super-7 project. It got scrapped in 80s. PAF and China started again from SCRATCH on PAF request. F-16 IS FROM 70s. JF-17 is from 2000. Its just block 3 now while F-16 is block 70+. As compared to F-16, fail ratio is very low on JF-17 during testing of new blocks. F-16 crashed countless times during testing. F16 is the most sexy, agile and beautiful jet made by mankind. It is an inspiration for JF-17. PAF world class F-16 pilots made it on Chinese plants. See the interviews of project manager of JF-17 Air Marshal Shahid Lateef. Mig and J-7 got nothing to do with JF-17. Its some Endian propaganda bullshit.

Guys, try to disengage efc of j17, you will be surprised: 25-29 deg/sec turn is possible within 250-300kn. And never drop below 180-200kn.

JF17 is a joint venture between China and Pakistan. Moreover a Pakistani Fighter Jet which was designed and hustled from prototype to final finish stage by Pakistani Engineers from PAF. Pakistan owns 52% while China owns 48% of it. It’s also marketed jointly. JF means Joint Fighter.

I am honestly surprised how badly the Hornet did, but only partially. I've read interviews with Top Gun aggressors, who say that the instantaneous turn rate of the Hornet is good, but you can't park it in a 3G turn and stay there like you could on some other aircraft (I think the hotrod A-4's they used).

That looks simple and effective
Hornet pilots weren't doing that at all. They'd merge at Mach 1, and then get out turned. Never merge too high above your corner speed.
Russell Johnson if I was burner on and doing Mach point something, rather than trying to chop speed, I'd blast on through and get distance and then change it from a turning game to a speed thing. In the time it takes the other fighter to get turned I could be several miles down range with a usable cushion for a turn and fire dead on with misses and bullets or get down behind a mountain or hide in a cloud or something else. Getting time to manage the encounter wisely can help to overcome technical or mechanical superiority. All this was was an exercise in high speed turning.
@@AlbertZiegler069 Gary Myers says it right. Keep on moving forward for a mile or two, then turn 180 and come for a head on pass. Also, going vertical is a great way to bleed speed and turn back around. It also gives you room to use your altitude for energy if need be.
