A documentary film that shares the untold story behind the death of an iconic institution and unveils the truth about one of the largest single payouts of federal disaster funds in state history.
Founded as a hospital for the poor, Charity Hospital began in 1736 as just a small cottage built on the goodwill of a dying French merchant. Run by the nuns of The Daughters of Charity and serving the city of New Orleans for close to 300 years, it gradually transitioned into an enormous public institution - into Big Charity - and a longstanding symbol of compassion, a seemingly eternal place of safety and a beacon of hope in the community. Today the towering art deco building, closed abruptly after Hurricane Katrina hit in August 2005, stands empty, and the community continues to suffer devastating consequences from its absence.
This documentary film includes never-before-scene footage and exclusive interviews to tell the story of Charity Hospital, from its roots to its controversial closing in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. From the firsthand accounts of healthcare providers and hospital employees who withstood the storm inside the building, to interviews with key players involved in the closing of Charity, Big Charity shares the untold, true story around its demise and sheds new light on the sacrifices made for the sake of progress.

1:23 pm I was in jail when Katrina hit. Sitn on the top rack, ( REST ) Tobe, and I were lookn out the window , and saw the water rising up ( 5 ft ) to the windows on cars in front of Blair Bail Bonds. 3 days later they began evacuating us to the Broad St. bridge where they kept us another few days. 🤦🏾‍♂️ No food 🍱 or water 💧……for US anyways! Ppl were falling out hungry, hot 🥵, and thirsty, and yet, every bottled water that came went to the officers 👮‍♀️ for them to drink……and pour on the heads of their hot 🥵 dogs 🦮🐕‍🦺🐕. Clearly, WE found out THAT DAY that our lives held NO VALUE in the eyes of The Organized Crime Gang, I mean Police 👮‍♀️, that had us detained. America 🇺🇸 the beautiful, huh 🤔?!! I ain’t gon lie, I used to kinda feel that way! BUT THEN MY EYES 👀 WERE OPENED, AND now I CAN’T NOT SEE HOW SHITTY 💩 it REALLY IS. Ppl starving, and homeless HERE….. but they send 65 billion to Ukraine. This some 🐂💩.

Sending aid to Ukraine has nothing to do with people “starving” and “homeless” here. The U.S. could keep every cent of that money and it still wouldn’t matter. We are a society built on capitalism, not socialism. Please stop making false equations.

Your community votes democrat. And democrats sent all our money to Ukraine so Ukraine could launder it back to the democrat coffers. Of course that money should stay here and help Americans first. Every major democrat city is a hell hole. When will the Black community wake up and stop supporting democrats? What does it take for common sense to seep in?
