@@mcclendonreport of course it could, however it seemed necessary to reiterate. Too many times in the history of so-called African Americans we are found waiting/depending on saviors to fix our issues. I do not want Kendrick Lamar or any other artist to carry that burden. I want them to be artists. The community needs artists.

I think Drake is a culture vulture, that being said "the culture" is evolving or devolving. As great as the concert was, it'll just give money to men who will forward it to communities that are not their own. Be it Kendrick, Dr. Dre, Nipsy, Kobe, they will all produce descendants that resemble the grandchildren of Sidney, Harry, and Quincy.

I agree that we may be awakened and recognize our bonds due to trauma. But oh no, those bonds are not forged in trauma. That deep humanity and our deep african-ness, ARE the bonds. This is why there are those among us who sadly can reject it. Because they want to bond with their oppressors, and consciously reject their own cutural history, even their own DNA, skin, hair, etc. And that as well as do to trauma, though they may never acknowledge or even see that.

@chuckjohnson4700 well sir maybe "you" didn't hear the call. And that's OK. But a song can be a unifier. Like the church folks say, " its a word". And those words quickened in me. He expressed in song what my feelings didn't have the language to bring forth. And based on the responses he's gotten, I think others feel the same. But it's OK if it didn't resonate with you. Many didn't relate to MLK or Lincoln. Shoot, many didn't relate to Jesus according to the Bible. But look at how people respond to their words now.

black Americans who descend from the American Chattel Slave are a special group. Our black is not like anyone else’s the beautiful created from our black transcends to every place in the world and everyone must adopt it because it’s a special kind but there is only one us. It is my prayer that we must all first have a (Family Reunion) and truly love ourselves and how far the blood of our ancestors has carried our bloodlines in this country as Americans. Despite the trials and tribulations covered in the blood of Jesus we gone be alright. The sacrifice, the cry for true freedom and justice and most importantly the fight of our people, the gifts of our people, the legacy, the love, the culture created, the intelligence, it all let’s us know we are one of a kind and it’s okay to be proud of who we are first and foremost. As a black American that’s what Kendrick’s songs awakened in me a deeper love for our survival within our truth and the history of our people that belongs to no one but us.

I see Kendrick as creating a shift that transcends Drake. Drake is the catalyst…it started as a rap battle. But It became something greater when he got all of the gangs on stage and created a scene of joy among all of those black men. And sometimes when the soul gets touched, it just knows that it got touched. That’s how I see KL…something in his actions has touched souls and created a healing that transcends lyrics and battles. It’s just his time.
