    Floyd deserves more subscribers. He's doing videos that help us artists, that don't have thousands of dollars to spend on expensive gear. He's offering a lot to us, and I feel like more people should at least give him their subscription, and a like. I've been watching him for a while, and he's giving up some jewels to us beginners, that are trying to learn how to make our own gear.

    I would really like to get an inexpensive set up like this working to use in church. Don't need to record anything, just need it produce sound when I play a midi keyboard.
    For instruments/sounds I need a piano, a pad, an organ ... not much else, maybe an electric piano. Other "Synth" sounds are not needed (unless it's an incredibly good piano or pad, understanding that they're all synth sounds really).
    It would be nice if I could have effects like reverb and chorus on each instrument.
    I'd run the pi with no monitor, relying on it to boot up and be ready shortly after I plug it in. I'd use the nanokontrol 2 to turn the volume of each instrument/sound up and down. It's important that I can at least have a "piano + pad" sound where I can adjust the volume of each sound independently.
    For a piano keyboard I'd look to a simple midi keyboard, presumably connected to the pi with a midi->USB cable. Audio output would be sent to a sound desk, probably via a "DI box".
    Does any of this sound possible at the moment without a huge amount of cost or effort?

I think most of the LV2 plugins "successfully" scanned but I get the message saying the plugin could not be loaded and that the "effect configuration is preserved". How low can you get the audio latency? I'd love to use a Pi as an outboard FX engine.

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  Рік тому +1

      On paper, you could achieve around 5 to 10ms, but it's really depending on the audio hardware used, the PI model, and so on. So the answer I can give is "you can work with it". Using Windows VSTs on ARM linux isn't ideal, however. I'd rather buy an old laptop with Windows installed, or use native plugins. Alternatively, you can install Windows on ARM (but that comes with it's own set of caveats) worproject.com/downloads

    • @mr_floydst

      Hi, thanks for watching! Short answer: Yes, there are many ways to do that. One way would be to edit your .profile and add the command line launching carla plus parameters in the end of that file. As Raspbian always logs you in, that's an easy way to accomplish that. Perhaps this is a good topic for another video (though other UA-camrs already covered this)

    Hey, just found your channel while tried to figure this stuff out. My Carla doesn't work. It says something like "invalid plugin" or something. On every plugin I try from Windows. I've installed the git version + the win32/64 plugin. What do I do? I need to host VST on my linux system & then route it to different computers/VMs. What would be the best way to go about it.

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  3 роки тому

      Hi, thanks for watching! Are you using a RasPI or a PC? In both cases, WINE is required, but on the PI, Carla can load win32 plugins only theoretically (you need to compile it yourself, have the libraries and an X86 emulator in the right place - but I couldn't get it compiled). Using that VST host in WINE is the only way to pull it off, Carla is useful for running all kinds of plugin formats (LV2, LMMS,...) that exist on Linux in one convenient wrapper.
      On an X86 PC, it's another story, you should be able to load win32 VST there.

    Hi Floyd. I might have left a comment on another thread about Zynthian VSTs not working on my 64bit system. I'm progressed a little further in that I located an aarch64 compatible synth in amsynth, which boasts a large number of presets. However the preset files are of the type ".bank"? Reaper uses .rpl and .fxb file formats. It looks like I can open said "bank" files which are basically just text files that list the parameters of the preset. How do I convert/import these files into something reaper can use? Also, it seems like presets are actually saved as .ini files. I'm conufsed. Please save me from having to individually reading each bank file and transcribing the parameters into new presets! Thanks.

      Hi! If I understand your problem correctly, that should not be a problem ;-)
      The .bank files are used by the plugin, but REAPER will remember the state of your plugins when you save a project. Hope this helps.
