7 year old kid, opens up a pack of Topps 87 baseball box my dad bought at our local liquor store, first pack I opened.....Mark McGwire on top. fan since and forever will be.
In a 1990s baseball took an all-time low interest of the public. It was going to take something pretty incredible to revitalize the sport. In 1997 Mark McGuire was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in July. That was an incredible season for him having finished with an astounding 58 home runs in the single-season. The following historical season in 1998, I was there for the first Homerun he hit at Bush Stadium. At that time, Mark McGuire was my favorite baseball player and it was so special to me to see him in a Cardinals uniform. I always remembered watching him as one of the Basher Brothers and now seeing him in the Cardinal uniform and hitting that amazing Homerun, it was exciting to all of us in St. Louis. The home run race of 1998 was magical and proved to revitalize the sport of baseball and to this day, there has never been another season quite like it. Mark McGwire is an amazing individual and was a wonderful presence in the Cardinals clubhouse. He has contributed to so many different players and has helped St. Louis Cardinals be a better team. He definitely deserves this induction into the Cardinals Hall of Fame, because of his amazing contributions to the club.
My favorite player! I remember going to my grandma's house when I was young over the summers to play wiffleball with my brother and guess who I wanted to be? Mark McGwire.
I'm glad they still inducted him. He was a kickass player. Steroids or not baseball players have been using whatever advantages they can since it's inception
I personally enjoyed watching Maguire in his home run quest.he like many at time was juicing and that will taint his career but still he was an accomplished player long before juicing and was never a controversial player like Bonds and Maguire was a ambassador for the sport for many years.
I don care who you are or what you think of him, he was my absolute favorite player growing up. Love ya Mark!

Playing baseball in Missouri from 1999 on, good luck getting number 25. And it's always the biggest dude on the little league team.
Big Mac was a fav player as a kid, glad he got this honor
Walt and Tony had the MLB BY THE HORNS. Then came Mo.

He would still have had 400 hrs if he had never taken steroids. Would have never hit 60+ but only 2 people have ever done it naturally
Why are we honoring this cheat?
Cheater. Doesn't deserve this
This makes me sick to my stomach. This is a joke.
ok clown
I can't believe they still support that cheater for everything he cheated.
Steroids were a big part of your career.
