You should look into one of the big upsets of world football when East Germany beat West Germany in the 1970’s in a World Cup. The only time the two sides met.
To be honest - it was a dead-rubber. West-Germany lost, yes, but they avoided a group with Brazil, Netherlands and Argentina. They faced Yugoslawia, Sweden and Poland instead. Losing was a no- brainer.
It's actually disgusting how East German teams were mega disadvantaged by having less than a handful of their teams join the Bundesliga after reunification. Dynamo Dresden and BFC Dynamo (Dynamo Berlin who aren't allowed to be called that because of "Soviet" connections) would've been Bundesliga mainstays if ran properly and not shafted to the lower leagues like the majority of East German teams.

Thank you for the Video from my hometown and my favorite club, where i was able to play for 3 years as a child. The Town, the region and the fans certainly deserve to be in the 2nd or 1st Bundesliga, but we have had bad luck with investors in the past. For this reason, the members have a great right to have a say in the club, unlike Red Bull Leipzig, for example, which has no members. If you are back in Dresden for a game, let us know and we will really experience Dynamo.
You should have a look on the highlights of yesterday's derby between Dynamo Dresden and Energie Cottbus. The supporters and the game itself were spectacular. The last time this match was played, is 6 years ago already and it's one of our big eastern-derbies - so there's a big rivalry between them. Pretty decent atmosphere for a third-division-match.
Great video. Love it! You know I personally feel it is unfair that Dynamo Dresden’s DDr-Oberliga title records and other cup feats is ignored by the west German clubs. I personally feel they have made the same achievement as the Bundesliga champions so it ought to be included as their present day first division title records for example just like how Liverpool’s 2019-20 Premier League title was added to their 18 First Division titles making it 19 altogether. Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed your video. Always entertaining and informative 🫡♥️⚽️
You can not compare this. The PL is the successor of the old First Division while DDR league was in another country, a better second division. When GDR teams played first time in Western league all GDR teams in 2nd Bundesliga Northern and Southern Division three out of six teams ended on the last places and were relegated. Finally someone is mentioning the D.E.F.C. from 1873 which was indeed the first football club outside of Great Britain. Not many know that, not even in Dresden. English guest workers used to play on a lawn approximately where todays Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion is located. In 1898 the Dresdner SC was found, partly by former members of the DEFC. They won the cup in 1940 and 1941 and the championship in 1943 and 1944. After the war the GDR regime did everything to destroy the club (because DSC was upper class and not working class) and supported the newly found Dynamo club instead. The DSC got banned and only restarted in 1990. After a quick rise to 3rd tier in the 90s they fell to 7th tier. They have their own home, the Heinz-Steyer-Stadion and a crazy history.
