I love that they kept in the imperfections and the, at times, dissonant solo and then sort of giggled about it. Part of the charm of the whole performance. love it.
That Kentucky Woman tune was plumb refreshing, Pokey. I got myself right off the couch, went down to the celler, and had a proper sip, I did. Like the poor ol' boy in the tavern, I now too feel more than a might better for it. Thanks for your holistic approach to medicine and sharing its secrets with us suffering souls. From now on you are Doctor Feelgood LaFarge.
Damn fine playing there wish more people played Old Country Blues on the mandolin found one guy who did it better than anyone I ever saw then all the sudden one day couldn't find any more of his videos on UA-cam wish I could find him again but this guy is really good Opie's around for a long time and hope he does more old timey country Blues on that mandolin
When I heard them I thought it was this band called, "yes ma'am" I was privileged to watch them live on the streets of New Orleans. Fantastic band. I still have their CD! Check them out!
I think I heard Pokey say that he started out playing bluegrass mandolin before going full blown country blues,it shows! Saw him say that on Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour.
I'd say Pokey deserves more than anyone else to do some Robert Johnson covers. Just the timbre of his voice, his rhythm, his playing style, everything is perfect. Certainly better than Clapton.
Man! That was GREAT! Well, slap the dog and spit in the fire! That's the greatest thing I've heard in a long time.Where's Jimmie Rogers The Blue Yodeler?
I love this song blues on the mandolin I don't know of anyone who can do this.I will go out today and look for a Blind Boy Fuller cd.BBF is one of Pokey's favourite musicians
This kid er l mean guy is fantastically phenomenal. L m a late baby boomer. And l can definently tell you this 30 year old is going places. Bar none carpe diem le pokey.

If there was an award for the best folk/blues performance on UA-cam I would nominate this one.
We need people like Pokey to keep the music of the past alive.

So am I, in Australia. Bought myself a banjo uke the other day and I play as a one man band.
COOL MAN!
Pokey is the man! Looks and sounds like he jumped right out of one of grandpa's vinyls. He's a real inspiration.

Great old timey bluesy sound...classic vocals...right out of the 20s...bravo...I'm envious!
