I went to Vernam Field to watch Racing about 1979 as a very young man. There were riders like Tony Mowatt and Terrell both of whom later tragically passed . There were drivers like George Sharewood in his supped up Mini etc. There were overseas riders and drivers too , it was lots of fun. It is sireal to see all the life and only part ruins of the race track . Wow !
They also Race cars at Dover Raceway in the Parish of St Ann and at Jam-West race track in a Parish called Westmoreland in western Jamaica. Vernamfield is not used that much anymore.
My grandmother use to mention the name Vernamfield in conversations with her peers donkey years ago. Now I get the chance to connect. Thanks for this trip and the aerial views. Total awesomeness. ummmmm!!! Seems like a lot of farming taking place in the area now. The runway is still in great condition...my guess is that it is used by interesting folks nowadays. Anyways thank you for sharing. The captured scenery was better to look at than the snow outside my window. Onward and Upwards always sir.
Interesting, my father had worked at this place, and didn't hide his experience from us. Thanks for sharing 👍 I have the opportunity to see the now abandoned place.
My mother was from Coleyville. I haven't had a chance to make it there yet but should you decide to do one of these videos there, I would definitely appreciate it!
For the almost 60years that Jamaica has been an Independent Nation we have heard plans for developing this place. It has been all talk and no action. Simple that
