That chip is a linear regulator made by Diodes Inc. It's EOL but spares are available on AliExpress.
Nice review, thanks.
It's such a pain in the ass to search for EOL parts with all the parts suppliers which don't have any actual info. Half of my Google results pointed to a random MOSFET. haha
Damn good review dude. Very thorough. You addressed all the questions I would be asking! ;-)
There is another brand called Mediasonic that makes similar devices. You should review one of those next, maybe compare it to an Icy Dock device.
That 200mm fan on the drive bay made me laugh
Wow man, really really good video, nice info !!!
God review, but my god, the slots for the fans. Dreadful
6X SSDs?? Someone is rich.......
120 gig SSDs are easily attainable on eBay used for ~30 bucks these days. :D Actually, about an hour before the video went up I won a 240 GB SSD for $28 on eBay.
Although I did actually buy two new (low cost) 250 gig Sansung EVO's for this since I need them for video editing.
Some people are rich, some people like me have machines that they keep for years and add drives to as they run out of disk space.
I've just bought one of these to add another SSD to one of my machines where the only spare bays are 5.25 inch. I could have bought something simpler/cheaper but then next time I want to add a drive to the machine I would have been in a similar predicament. With this adapter I can add the new drive, and I can move the two 2.5 inch drives that are currently sharing a 3.5 inch bay leaving me with a free 3.5 inch bay and three free 2.5 inch bays.
bro the cooling was abysmal on this thing
I found it to be perfectly good for SSDs. I wouldn't put hard drives in it, however.
@@PeterBrockie I did. Shit was at 50°C
@@PeterBrockie My goal is a Raspberry Pi NAS, but my SSDs kept going to 60°C in Software RAID
