Nice video. I acquired either a 1938-1941 M44 rifle, it is not a US issue according to the gunsmith at my range. We legally transferred over to me at my range. According to my friend whom gave it to me, it was his Dads rifle and was bought for him when he was 10 years old. The condition of the rifle is not bad, it hasn't been fired in over 35 years. I took the bolt action apart and its now soaking in WD40 and the barrel is loaded with lead. I plan on refinishing the stock, re-bluing the barrel and other parts. It did come with a scope and the original magazine. I wish we could upload pictures so I could show it to you all.
Hi. Just seeing this 2 years later. What you have is the second version 44US after cost cutting. This one has the Mossberg version peep sight and the plastic trigger guard that you talk about. The first 500 (version 1) had steel parkerized trigger guards, walnut stocks and a very expensive peep sight model 57 which I was lucky enough to get hold of. However, both shoot about the same. BETTER THAT I CAN !!!!!
Yeah, it would have been nice to get one of the earlier ones. I didn't pay for the higher grades so maybe that's why I got the plastic guards, etc. As you say, even the "cheaper" version is very nice.
The magazine issue turned out to be a relatively easy fix. If you look in the magazine well it's basically a metal bar that extends into the edge of the magazine. All I did was take a pair of needle-nose pliers and bend that bar out a little bit. Once I did that the magazine went in and out with ease

Thanks. That's where I ended up going
I have the same gun. I carry needle nose pliers with me to pull out the magazine.
