As someone who also sticks stuff on their bookshelf, I recommend reserving a shelf just for them so you can get to the books. Made me feel a lot better about it when I started doing that.
My cheeks hurt from laughing and smiling my way through this video. Oh for the love of books. I miss so many of the books i had to let go of years back when we had a no choice but to downsize and drive away... i had really started a wonderful collection... some of which were signed and others with teeth marks from one of my now passed on kitty. I'll know them instantly if ever i am lucky enough to come upon them in a used bookstore. Now living in a 20 foot vintage trailer I have such limited space for all the naturalist and witchy books i want on my near non-existant shelves! LOL The big spells book was a favorite of mine as well, i would know a spell i needed to do and then i would look in that book at all the various ways it had been done and it was like my creative spirit just riffed off all the ideas and came up with my own unique version. It was great for that and just a fascinating read as well. I must say Goodreads is messed up... the other book in that series should be with its kin, NOT all the way down under the T's! That would drive me mad. Thanks for the very entertaining video, Hearth. 📖📖📖📚
In your case I’d definitely say get your very favorite few in print and the rest on kindle or audiobook or whatever apple has for a book library. That way, you could get alot more books than what you could actually fit on a physical shelf.
This was so wholesome! Suggestion for the book problem, maybe try adding wall mounted shelves and next to your desk or somewhere special for your magical TBR so fill the small shelf with the next books you want to read so that would free up space in the main bookshelf
Just thought of this too, not sure if you have the space/depth but if any of your bookshelves are deep enough, you can add like a spice rack behind the books so it's like two rows of books on one shelf. I've seen people do this with DVDs or games
Your shelf looks organized and clean. It looks like it can breathe again. You inspired me to go back through my books, too! I work with deities, so I tend to organize my books by what they want to teach me so with say Apollo - all my books on philosophy, tarot, art magic, sun magic, etc. goes on his shelf. Most of the other books that do not fit that strict category, or I just pulled naturally on my own interests goes on what I consider as a "general learning hub" so a few beginner books, intermediate books, etc go to live there. I used to have an elemental cube shelf that I had decorated at some point, so strictly elemental based books went on there. It was kinda hard to fit the Void books sometimes, but I made it work for the most part 😊 It was also cool to read through the comments too to see what other people's systems were. Thanks for all you do Hearth! ❤
I never can decide how I want to organize my books. I reorganize them every season it seems trying to find “the way” lol Right now they are by approximate subject (so much overlap!). Thank you for sharing Hearth! I find these videos so relaxing after a long week.
I already commented but I just wanted to say I love the elemental encyclopedia of 5,000 spells too. I got it when I was 13 or 15, and have loved it ever since. My copy is very well loved and has papers marking pages too. Such a good book.
Omg as someone who worked in retail this definitely brings me back to dark memories of taking inventory 😂 Tj Maxx has amazing Halloween stuff I always go there for altar and trinkets for my home
What the What the What the what the WHAT????? Now I need one of those thingies too! Thank you, Horde Gremlin And then all the other stuff? Too much mind-blowingness in one vid!!!!!!! !
This is actually kind of nostalgic. I used to scan books in the back of a charity shop and had the same reaction when there were price stickers on the barcode 😂 Great video! 📚📖
I loosely organize my books based on topic, and/or grouped by author. There are a few oversized books that can only live on the bottom shelf. Books will get shuffled around based on what I'm currently reading. They will get reorganized when I dust them. My apartment is like a sieve. It is astounding how much dust accumulates on the top of them. Good luck organizing the rest of your collection, Hearth! 📚
I loved this video!!! Thank you for going over your organization of your book collection. When you realized there were books left out, I totally saw myself doing the same thing. Absolutely love all your content but the books are my favorite 📚📚📚📚📚
Yes, putting studf on the walls really helps. I reorganized my Pagan/Witchcraft/Tarot bookshelf about 3 weeks ago. Then, a week later I finally got all of my stuff out of my storage unit. Now I keep finding books in random boxes everywhere. I totally need that barcode scanner thing. Also, I visited the library in my city a couple hours ago for the 1st time since I moved back here. My collection of about 100 Pagan/Occult/Tarot/Witchcraft books is far more extensive and varied than the library's. I find that very depressing, disappointing, and frustrating.
📚 Organized maximalism is the way to go, fill those walls up, It looks great! And absolutely time for another bookshelf, and then some shelves for pretty nic-nacs. You did a really good job working through all of those books hearth! Also, reminder for you to make a book mark holder pocket !
Great video. I got some great book ideas which have gone on my list of books to buy. Because books can be put into more than one topic and therefore difficult sometimes to decide exactly where to put it, I decided to use an tried and true organization system, the Dewey decimal system. I make labels with the DD# for each book. For a digital library catalogue, I use Library Thing's library catalogue called Tiny Cat (I live in Canada - not sure if it is worldwide or a Canadian site). It is free and they say you can load as many books as you want (my library is around 350). It is very easy to search for the books you are looking for. It helps me not duplicate books too (ha!). There have been many times I thought a book looked really good and I should get it only to find I already had it. Tiny cat search helps me find books on the shelf too since my books aren't arranged by topic. I love Tiny Cat.
Get some Zippo lighter fluid, a soft lint free cloth, and Q-tips. Use some fluid on a Q-tip and run it along the edge of the sticker furthest away from the edge of the cover of the book. wait a little and check if some of the sticker can be lifted. Repeat until the sticker comes off, and use the soft loth with a little fluid on it to remove any residue. You might want to check the cover of the book in a small area to make sure the lighter fluid does not harm the book. If you are uncomfortable with using lighter fluid then you can try using a hair dryer on medium and heat the sticker for about 40 seconds and check to see if the sticker has warmed and started to loosen. Once it starts to loosen peel slowly. when it get hart to peel then reheat. You can remove the residue by rubbing it with an eraser (rubber) or a soft cloth with a little Goo-Be-Gone.
Book shelves are all throughout my house. It's crazy how a collection grows so quickly. I want to say thank you for doing the content you do. You always seem to mention a book I want to look into for me or my house mate.
I am currently reading a deed without a name. Loving it. I use incense stick boxes as book marks, also for my birthday next year going to Glastonbury the town for a few days. So excited . 🙂🥰
Really enjoyed watching this process and hearing you talk about the different books. I too love National Trust and am a life member (a kind gift on marriage). I got a couple of fab books on leylines and ruins from one of their shops. I currently have books all over the place so need to do some of my own sorting!!
You got such a bargain with the folklore myths and legends of Britain book! They're listed for £100 on most sites. I picked mine up from a charity shop for £3, I was so happy!
📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 I love books too and I'm working on a collection. Loved your video on books being released I have a very long list of some I want. I'm from the US much love to you and your videos❤
Oh my gosh! I would have given up on the alphabetizing after getting everything off the shelves and just start shoving them wherever they fit. Watching you stress out made me feel better about organizing stuff. Great video!! 📙📕📗📘
Love this video. Organizing things is a major part of my life. I don’t have a ton of book but from what I do have I been going by types. Like Cat Magick, Faery Magick, Shadow Work, Astrology, and Tarot. My Oracle and Tarot cards are also organized with the books as the type they are as well. ❤
📚 So far my witchy book collection takes up three rows of my bookshelf. I haven’t organized it yet, I’m currently enjoying the chaos of finding three books I forgot about while also grabbing the one I was thinking of 😂. Too many more shelves though, and I might have to organize it.
Hearth you're in good company! I moved twice this year and having to pack up all my bookshelf trinkets was a nightmare! I also have the same problem where it's very difficult to take books on and off shelves and i don't dust nearly as often as i should bc moving everything is a total pain!! Thanks for the laughs 🖤📚
📚📗📖 I keep my “to be read in the next year” books on one shelf. I keep my most referenced books together in another spot. Then I have a section of favorite authors (Cunningham, Crowley, Dion Fortune, Gardner, Joseph Campbell, Pearson, R J Stewart, etc.). Finally, the rest go in alphabetical order, leaving a little space on each shelf for new books. That said, I have three piles of rarely used books in a corner, each stack is three feet high (the corner supports them). Trust me, your book collection will always expand to exceed your shelf space. 😸 Your Merlin’s Creatures book reminds me of The Runes of Elfland. Be careful adding things to your wall! Old walls sometimes strongly dislike intrusions.
I love the Bookshelf app, because you can scan the book with your phone camera. You can also add all the different editions and formats like hardback and paperback. You can order it by author name, title, publishing date, purchase date etc. You can also add a wish list.
I found a speaking tree, courtyard books on the other side, bookmark on a book I ordered used online from California. I currently have it in my favorite herb and plant book. 📚📚📚
Loved having a closer look at your shelves, the scanner is such a cool tool! My books are organised by category then alphabetically so I can just go to a section if I don't know what specific book I want yet📚
Perfect video for a rainy fall day! Getting a scanner was a great idea. I’d love an update in like a few months or a year to hear about if it made a difference in the long run! P.S. - your long hair/ outfit make you look like you belong on the cover of Vogue. It’s a very editorial look, love it ❤️
For the pamphlets, you can get plastic type sheets they make for comic books to preserve them? Also loved The Spiderwick Chronicles and would love to have his field guide! I keep all my bookmarks together, I keep all my special editions together, and I organize books in no particular order which makes it so hard to find them sometimes…😂 but I have organized chaos, so I know where they are, but I don’t have as many books as you…so… that. 😂
I tend to organize my bookshelves by either subject or the "Does it fit here? Good!" method. :-) I have quite the collection of bookcases in my house. Every bookcase in my house houses quite the collection of knick-knacks, oddities, curiosities, and general "stuff" to the point where actually reaching the books is well night impossible. After watching this video, I think I'm going to try scraping up the cash for a scanner like yours and actually making (at least some of) my bookshelves functional! (First World problems , eh?) As far as those #&%@! price stickers go, careful application of isopropyl ("rubbing") alcohol usually dissolved the glue -- with a little care, it's a *lot* more gentle than trying to peel off the tag , especially if the cover's not especially heavy or shiny. BTW, over here on the left side of The Pond, we have HomeSense *and* HomeGoods... which, along with TJ Maxx (your TK Maxx), Marshalls, and Sierra are al the same company!
I tend to organize my books by category then by author. Or at least I try 😅 Sometimes the categories do overlap, and in the case I typically put those books with others written by the same author. I do have books that I’ve been given my other practitioners in my family and those I am still deciding on a system aside from just being put together in the same at. I just moved and all of my books are packed but I’m hoping to get them unpacked soon!
That big book on legends and superstitions is HIGHLY sought after. I imagine you got a bit a of a bargain at a National Trust property too!! They can go for quite a bit of money!
I love you so much my first book on witchcraft is witchcraft theory and practice' and got 5000 book of spells great books thanks so much for your videos I love you all ways ❤❤❤📘📘📘📘📕📚
i usually organize my books by fav. like there's some i go to again and again and some that i got that are way more general then i thought but still have....for some reason. but ya that's how i dos it. i also have an 'encyclopedia' section so books just on herbs, crystals, etc. for quick reference sooooo ya lolz
Props to you for doing this. I don't think I have the patience for something like this. 📚 I made a really long video even longer because I kept pausing it to look up books you were highlighting. Then while looking up those books, I was often led to other books that might interest me. LOL. Yea that inaccurate title thing is pretty annoying.
I can relate to this video in funny ways. I’d love to try organizing my own library in this way but it would take three times longer than I’d want because I tend to get lost in all my Bric-à-brac. LOL
a library is 'officially' 1000 books! a weird life goal for me but if your gonna have a bunch of books might as well tell other people it's a goal so they look at you less weird for all the book hoarding lolz
A couple years ago I bought some magnetic butterfly book marks, for when my granddaughter gets old enough. But I've found them to be extremely useful. I use them for every book I read and leave them in there when done. ...has anyone else used them?
I tried magnetic book marks a long time ago but I found the ones I used left an impression on the page they were clipped on. Hopefully, they have gotten better.😀
Hi Hearth, I've just started watching but can I suggest a display cabinet....a cabinet of curiosities almost...for all your beautiful pieces that aren't books. 😊
Thank you so much for this video. I have tried to manually make a database of my book collection, it takes so long. I got one of those scanners recently but I have been afraid to start using it. It appears as if Goodreads worked well for you. Perhaps I will finally do this my self.
I was going to share a picture of my book collection and it wouldn't let me😢. Love your collection and that Yellow shirt looks awesome on you. Blessings to you Hearth 💫💜
Huh, didn't know that little tidbit about why some books don't have ISBN numbers. I organize my books by three categories: Witchy, Self Help, and Misc. Then I organize by height, then aphabetical by Author's last name. As someone who has worked at B&N and have had to put price stickers on LEGO, I hated when my coworkers would put price stickers or electric guard stickers (don't remember the name) over the bar codes. Worst thing ever.
Most of the individual tarot decks that I have do not have ISBN numbers, however, boxed tarot and oracle sets (that include a deck and book) should work. Just check your collection for ISBN bar codes. Good luck.
My bookshelves have mushrooms, witches, gnomes, nests of bird eggs etc all manner of earth in front of my books. I cannot clean it up and if deleted items it wouldn't be me. I keep all my witchy books together.
Why not number the books? Like the library due decimal system or whatever it’s called. I did my books years ago when I was like 12. You wouldn’t even need the scanner.

When in doubt buy more bookshelves 😅

That's a good idea. It would almost act like a shrine/altar shelf dedicated to the bookcase - that's kinda sweet 😊
I reserved the top shelf on mine , such a great idea

As a long time, older practitioner, I truly appreciate your content, reviews, especially book reviews! Thank you, and Blessed Be..
📕📚📖 Yes, detailed bookshelf videos! I found that very interesting. I would listen to you talk about books and knick-knacks for 5+ hours!
Please do more of this kind of videos, I just love your bookcase and your stories of the books

Yes, we'll absolutely need another book-sorting video, please! 📖📚
I absolutely loved your attitude (aka personality) in this video! Seeing you not scripted is awesome!! Plus, you gushing over books is amazing!! 😂
Agreed, Hearth's cry of frustration over the label covering the bar code reminded me of Captain Kirk screaming "Kahn".
Good morning, hearth and everybody
Hearth starting the video and promptly getting distracted by knick knacks!
Hehe 🥰 can relate
I never can decide how I want to organize my books. I reorganize them every season it seems trying to find “the way” lol Right now they are by approximate subject (so much overlap!).
Thank you for sharing Hearth! I find these videos so relaxing after a long week.

Omg this calming organizational video is exactly what I needed on 50-65mph winds day with a migraine building in my head. ❤
I watched this entire video of a bippity witch organize books. And I honestly feel like it was time well spent.
BE A GREMLIN! lol
To store your pamphlets I would say maybe get a binder and some 3 hole protector sheets.

Yay to getting distracted by stuff when attempting to organize! I do this every time 👻 🎃
📚 Organized maximalism is the way to go, fill those walls up, It looks great! And absolutely time for another bookshelf, and then some shelves for pretty nic-nacs. You did a really good job working through all of those books hearth!

Great video. I got some great book ideas which have gone on my list of books to buy. Get some Zippo lighter fluid, a soft lint free cloth, and Q-tips. Sending you so much love and patience for the stickers 😂
Book shelves are all throughout my house. It's crazy how a collection grows so quickly. I want to say thank you for doing the content you do. You always seem to mention a book I want to look into for me or my house mate.
I love prganising my many bookshelves 😊❤ so calming x
I am currently reading a deed without a name. Loving it. I use incense stick boxes as book marks, also for my birthday next year going to Glastonbury the town for a few days. So excited . 🙂🥰

I use one of them every day at work to catalogue, classify and subject index books in a university library
You could always use the pamphlets as a kind of tabletop books. But you'd need them in a little box or container to display.

📚📚📚📚 loved this video. Hell yes to seeing all your books. 😂
I was literally watching the old bookcase organising video last night haha!!
I only manage to organize in categories. Witchcraft, Gardening, Herbs, sooo many....📚
I love the Bookshelf app, because you can scan the book with your phone camera. You can also add all the different editions and formats like hardback and paperback. You can order it by author name, title, publishing date, purchase date etc. You can also add a wish list.
Oooh sounds good
You are inspiring me to sort my bookshelf too. 📚
You need something like a printers tray or floating shelves for your knick knacks. Also, definitely another bookshelf!
I found a speaking tree, courtyard books on the other side, bookmark on a book I ordered used online from California. I currently have it in my favorite herb and plant book. 📚📚📚

ABCDEFG singing is me too! Hearth more books/bookcase videos please!
4:22 just watching this video makes me want to be more of a gremlin.
Lol🤣 Hearth fighting with barcodes - not what I expected to see but love nonetheless haha😆 Xxx
I can relate to this video in funny ways. I’d love to try organizing my own library in this way but it would take three times longer than I’d want because I tend to get lost in all my Bric-à-brac. LOL
maybe get a 3 ring binder with full size slot pages to put the pamphlets in that way you can also flip through it and guard them from dust
I organize mine by collection and author. 📖 📕 📚
Thank you 📖📚
a library is 'officially' 1000 books! a weird life goal for me but if your gonna have a bunch of books might as well tell other people it's a goal so they look at you less weird for all the book hoarding lolz
You need decorative shelves on that beige wall for your knick knacks and skulls
I hate price tags on isbn numbers too. I have had to donate so many books when my aunt moved in with me. But, I love the scanner!!!
You need a nick-knack shelf (or two) to fully embrace you gremlin nature!
I would get some hanging wall shelves and put your skull knickknacks on those. I had to do that with my some of my crystals.
Such a lovely video, I love alllll the book content! ❤
Do you have any recommendations for books on storm witchcraft or wind witchcraft?
i love your outfit ..stunning
1:07 I organize my Wiccan book case based on the better writer
P.s. your hair is beautiful!
You could put them in under books and then cross reference with decks maybe
📚

I wonder can I utilize this same system for my large collection of tarot and oracle cards 🖤🖤🖤✨✨✨
Same 😊
Gremlins Unite!
I dont need a scanner...know all my books by ❤ colour, title, where they are around the house!
Good evening
Why not number the books? Like the library due decimal system or whatever it’s called. I did my books years ago when I was like 12. You wouldn’t even need the scanner.
