We bought the ISA brown and golden comets at Tractor Supply. This is the time of year they have them. I would suggest both breeds, both are super tame and are egg laying machines. We live in Minnesota and they have gone through three winters, very cold hardy.
we have two isa browns and 2 white leghorn rescue hens, they are the most amazing birds, the leghorns are a bit skittish but the ISA browns will run up to you when they see you and are very tame, can handle them no problems.
We love our ISA's. I was curious about your leghorns. I heard they are good flyers and will roost in the trees. Are yours flighty? My Dad raised Leghorns when he was a kid in the 50"s.
@@DaveSherva we live on flat land with no trees so i am not sure, they are ex barn/caged hens so they may not be able to fly, they do come off the ground when playfully running across the garden though 😁
I noticed in one of your other videos you had a couple of buff orpingtons and a barred rock. Remember those when I was a kid. Did they ever go broody on you? They sure have great coloring, also. Really enjoy your channel. Thanks.
Those were our first chickens. Loved the buff orpingtons and a barred rock. Funny you mention being broody, that barred rock was the broodiest hen you'd ever seen. We got fertile eggs from a friend who had a farm and she hatched and reared them like her own. He eventually took her from us and she raised hundreds of chicks for him. She was eventually killed by a hawk at age 9. She had a good life. Thanks for the comment and watching.
@@DaveSherva Thanks for your response. My grandmother had rhode island reds, wyandottes, buff orpingtons and barred rocks. All great chickens. Love your channel. Thanks!
I have two Isabrowns. One (Brook the chook) is a nice girl who is a good layer. The other one (Gwen the hen) is always on my shoulder, would rather spend time with humans than her own kind, is constantly talking to us (like R2D2), and we love her entirely. She is the sweetest bird.
Our Isa browns and red comets are so friendly as well. Our girls are named after women singers and we have a Gwen too! Chickens are so great to have around not only for eggs but they eat all the weeds from my garden and provide great compost from their bedding. Thanks for the comment!
I’m a first time chicken owner this year and have 5 chickens. 3 are Isa Brown. One of them has sat on my head a few times. They are around 18 weeks now. It’s the best 😊
Both are prolific egg layers and look very similar. My understanding is they lay darker eggs. I've never owned them but we love the ISA's. It would be worth trying a few of each if space provides.
Our Isabrown thinks she is a parrot as well. Loves to be on my shoulder.
The absolute sweetest and best laying breed
Very tame hen...that is great. Where do you buy your chicks from? She has great color. Have a great day.

I have a Delaware hen that does the same thing. Her name is Deli and she’s the sweetest bird ever. All fun & games until you get 💩 on though 😂
The amount of times my chickens have done that to me.

What is the difference of Isa brown and decalb brown?
