There is no shame in the shot,the effort to find the deer,finding it and tagging it. Don't let it get you down Houston. That was a magnificent animal with a strong will to live. Don't ever hesitate to take a shot like that in the future. You are blessed to have such a wonderful loving family. At your age every experience is a life lesson and you have some great teachers. Wow! Looked like a good heart shot. One tough mature buck. That’s the most extreme deer tracking event I have ever witnessed. I’ve been deer hunting for 50 years now and I have never seen a buck travel that kind of distance with a well placed shot. When you get him mounted he needs a plague titled “Super Buck”. Congratulations Daniel & Houston on your trophy buck. 🦌 🦌 🦌
How can you call this a success? Success means that you made a good shot and recovered the deer, in this case that did not happen. When hunting with a crossbow, everything has to be spot on. Chosing a crappy broadhead is crucial to taking a whitetail. In this case I think they just bought the same broad heads that work for compound bows, Wrong. Crossbows require a slower opening time for expandable broudheads.
No one need this comment I had to track my two deer a few years ago and only found one the other one we could not find and this was in ruffle season it just happened sometime
Congratulations Houston! A very special memory made with your Dad by your side. My younger son lost his father September 13. Friday October 20th would have been his 69th birthday. My son took off early to go hunting on his farm property with his dad’s old bow and took a 12 point buck he has been seeing on his trail cam. We all believe his dad was right there helping him!

Houston, I was yelling at my phone SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT! I WAS HAVING YOUR ANXIETY FOR YOU! I thought you got him low. My son did the same thing, however it wound up on the neighbors field and the guy claimed he shot it. It was his first time using his dad's bow not a compound and tracked this massive monster for another to take claim. He was 13 or 14 and just devastated. I and the guy had words cause he got on grandma's properly and had permission to hunt on a farm which was owned by several family members. Not even a picture to show for it! Next time as Daniel said go to the water and have the gun ready for those yotes! Nice job and great job on your grades.❤❤❤❤

That is so freaking crazy man. I would have expected that deer to go down quick cause Houston made as good a shot as you could ask for period. I was flabbergasted..I thought he was going down every step. You could tell he was hurt bad stumbling and standing awkwardly. It never ceases to amaze me at the heart these creatures have to live. I'm just blown away! Anyhoo...the best of congratulations to you Houston. You made a terrific shot and you are becoming a great hunter. Keep it up little man. And you are completely correct God let you find that deer because you kept the faith. He sent Elijah ravens to feed him. And he sent you buzzards to let you know where to find your deer. God bless!

I made a shot a few years ago with a crossbow exactly like that, and had the same results. I found the deer two days later thanks to carion birds. Perfect heart shot. Deer are some tough animals. Congrats, Houston!

Great job buddy. I live in Yukon, OK and wish I had property to take my 3 boys hunting they are all around Houstons age. I want them to learn and understand hunting and living off the land. Its hard when you don't know anyone with land and public land seems to crowded around this area. Great content guys.

Daniel even know I’m not a deer hunter but I get it and I am proud of Houston. I’m doing a damn good job and hang in there looking for him. I wish him all the luck at getting the next deer. I am all for getting deer to harvest to eat but not just the soup and leave to waste. You are teaching him well keep the faith up with God he will help you out and lead you all the way. I’ve lost an elk and it haunted me for a long time. It’s happens but all you can do is learn from and keep pressing. Glad you found him and congrats as well. Now go get that big boy!!!

I was put off by the excessive celebration by Houston when he found that the arrow had gone all the way through the deer. I know the point of hunting is killing your game, but still thought his reaction was off putting!

Houston made a great shot but like you said they are tough, majestic animals. You both will be talking about these hunts for years. When you do your very best, and things still go wrong... Houston handled the disappointment so well, you and Houston did your best to find the injured buck, then you teach him (and me) to follow through and try again. Thank you! Love this whole experience he learned so much at that moment up till the 48th hour. Your words to your son are a fine example how he looks up to you- listening, learning, patience, being humble and exceptance and trusting God. Next year he will be a pro!

Houston, that was a fantastic shot. You and your Dad did everything you could to find that deer. Disappointments are one of God's ways of teaching us to not take blessings for granted and to be grateful for the successes of life. Perhaps that was God's way of teaching you to always do the right thing and follow thru. He didn't go to waste if the coyotes and the buzzards got a good meal or two from him. You may not be putting that buck in the freezer but you have a nice rack to add to your wall because you stuck with looking for him. It's great watching you grow and mature as you learn life's lessons.

Had the same thing happen to me last Christmas Eve in SE OKLAHOMA, not that far from you. Couldn't find a dog team available due to Christmas. Good cold night. Came back at daylight and started looking again. Walked for a good 20 minutes, finally seen red in the otherwise brown winter woods, and checked it out. Coyotes feasted and there wasn't as much as yall found. I agree with Daniel, whitetails are one of the toughest critters in this country. So, I tagged the buck, and I still respect the animal. Y'all did great and everything you possibly could do to find the deer. Congratulations Houston, go get that other big one roaming your woods!!
