The 4th regret about social stigma can never be removed. Just like in NTU, we are viewed as those rejected by NUS even after NTU has 66 years of history. To remove that stigma, you can only pray hard SUTD can one day defeat NUS and NTU in university ranking.
I think it's quite unlikely because sutd is essentially an engineering school. University rankings like QS consider how holistic the courses that are being taught afaik
I advise the following: 1) Focus more on the experiences 2) The grind of SUTD may wear away at you. Use that to strengthen your friendships 3) Spend more time in the 5th rows, you will forget most of what you study 4) Most of design comes from projects in 5th rows , eg Design Odyssey 5) invest yourself into HASS, they encourage you to reflect on life and what matters to you
Yoo man it's so crazy that you made this video! I'm Indonesian too and ALMOST chose to go to SUTD because of the scholarship offer last year while waiting for NTU and NUS. Pretty crazy that I could be going through whatever you are going through right now!! Welps, all the best man! Jiayous for your uni life, you'll do well!!
i kind of agree, initially i thought SUTD was so amazing from all the ads but when i went to take some 1 day course about AI, i felt as if what they said was nothing like what they showed. not only was it so basic but there was 0 hands on and we were just asked to copy and paste when we did not understand rather than explain what was going on
You're comparing 2 different things. We are talking abt the degree experience, not short courses. Such courses are not curated by the core facility of SUTD, but rather guests lecturers, just like SP PACE academy or any of such academies by any uni, which usually are of lower quality than the core curriculum the uni officers
@@johnwig285 ah i understand now, i think the reason why I said that is because I've been signing up for a lot of these types of courses, but the issue was that the email which said the day's plans and exactly what they were going to do was completely different from what we actually saw. but yea, I understand what you mean, my bad
Just before to find this video I was asking to Copilot AI, which Singapur university is better as for future ignoring prestige and renown. Copilot answer was: #1 SUTD.
You would not regret coming to SUTD, SUTD trains you to be a designer and as a designer, it will give you many opportunities to meet and interact with many different stakeholders since you are someone that like people to people interaction. Secondly, Show the Graduate Employment Survey (GES) to those that said SUTD are for NUS and NTU rejects. I promise you, you will create a paradigm shift in their minds.
bro, among uni students, alot of people knows that the strong subjects in sutd and smu are actually better than nus and ntu, only older people does not know sutd that much
Hey senior here (one batch above you)! Anyway, there could be various ways to share your thoughts here! Honestly, many times I really regret choosing SUTD because it's really tough and I failed GP haha so I thought HASS is pretty useless. Anyway, besides the fluff that marketing presents, many of the seniors like us and the faculty also sometimes feel that renaming the freshmore mods to their current new names are not really representative of what they are and I agree with the sentiments against the fluffy names of the mods. Perhaps, one suggestion could be to point viewers who are considering SUTD to the link where they can find the syllabus then at least people will have an idea of what to learn. To be very honest here, I am not academically inclined but yeah I can say I learnt a lot because I still use them to help optimise my understanding in things that I learn outta the curriculum and really you just gotta bite the bullet. Things are never easy.
I am an undergrad in SUTD and I really really REGRET coming to SUTD. The school is too small, too much marketing fluff, freshmore year was useless (quite a number of dropouts too), school culture is not vibrant at all and many more reasons.
Hey what are your thoughts on reading general modules in first year? I heard sutd don’t go into specialisation until 2nd year so that’s like a year wasted imo
Since sutd is an engineering school, there are some overlapping basics that are relevant to all 5 pillars. So these basics will be learnt during the first year, and it gives u some time to sort of figure out what u like doing more, so u can make a more informed decision when choosing a pillar. Or at least thats how they want u to see it. However, if you are 100% sure on the pillar you are going to take, the truth is that some of the things u learn in ur freshmore years might not be very relevant to the pillar you take as well. For example, if you are taking ISTD, then the "Science for sustainable world" module in term 2 may not be so relevant to what you wanna do as since it focuses more on environmental degradation, chem n bio and this might not have anything to do with computer science.
I am hoping to get into SUTD! I heard that their school culture is great. But I am very worried for my application because of my rank points. When did you receive the email that you were accepted?
His views didn't resonate with logic. If you have admission from all three go with NUS or NTU, where NUS is still top choice. Funding, research, faculty, industry exposure and network at NUS is superior and leave SUTD in dust. May be ASD programme in SUTD is cool. Also to learn DAI in a college paying so much school fee is oxymoron while in this day and age you can learn DAI online through practice.
Hahah funny you didn't know sutd is an engineering sch. Btw I was like you, from a non-engineering literature background, ended in Mechanical engineering In the end I'm in "Patents" (combining writing and engineering). I'm sure you'll find your niche too. Engineering + people aspect
Oh btw, during my time, the "stigma" was reversed. I actually applied for SUTD first but was rejected. At that time, SUTD had the MIT branding. Up to today, I actually still hold SUTD students in high regard. I imagine them to be the top of the top. I mean... your cohort size is only 400 a year. And the private sector (where I am, not public sector), esp international companies, don't care where u got ur degree from.

Yups!
The education u get from them doesn't matter, its about the reputation of the university you graduate from.

Hi, i wanted to ask if there is an interview taken before the admission? And if so what type of questions do they ask?
Yes. They ask generic interview questions. One question that was rather odd was just "what is design to u?"
