Its been years since I first stumbled upon this video.. 8 to be exact. I gotta say thanks man because it inspired me to purchase a EMX-1 and warp my mind in my own personal dimension of music. This cover still kicks ass!!
This is the most my-dream-childhood thing I’ve ever seen. Synths, drum machine, Aphex shirt, CDs, Mario bros on the DS. You have got it all! Thanks too for the awesome cover!!
I can't believe I'm saying this...but, I like this version of "I'm Self Employed" more...mainly cause of the variation in beat, the bass and everything in general. If you could make this a full fledged song, that would be amazing!
Cover jam is a good way to put it. You add stuff over time as it progresses which makes it awesome. For a jam song, this is choice. Awesome job on it, peace.
@Ganjacide Thank you! I'm dumbfounded by the amount of people saying they enjoy this more than the original. I really put no thought into how to best recreate it; the drum machine pattern was just something I made before I even programmed the synth lines into the EA1, and I randomly decided to use it for this jam. I guess it was all luck!
I liek the original more than this, but this is proably the best cover of it that could be done. Great Job! I think I enjoy the original version for it's dynamic, flexible, liquid, and natural sound. This version is much more consistent.
This is about 20 patterns of information. The song has more. Sounds cool, maybe cheezed out a bit on the right-most electribe but... it's cool. I'm happy to hear it, good job.
You rock dude. I'm making a setup with some gear that I can input notes while its playing. I have other gear but it won't do unless I buy an external sequencer, so I might as well get some more Electribes.
Read the description of the last video. Equipment used: Korg ER-1 mkii, Korg EA-1 mkii, Behringer Xenyx802 mixer No external effects used. Thanks for watching!
@TheBOZORUS The ER1 is probably simplest. But keep in mind, it's just a drum machine, so you can't really add any proper melodies or basslines, but you can get very creative with the drum synthesis. The ER1 was my first.
Agreed, it's just a cover jam, I really wasn't trying to make a better song or make a song at all, I just wanted to play with those synth lines. That's why I was so surprised at how many people liked this more than the actual song...
Thanks! I don't know what you mean by 20 patterns of information. This is one 4 bar pattern on each machine. It's a for-fun cover jam, not a planned out or faithful remake.
It really depends on what you're looking for. The ER1 is a great beat machine because of its unique drum synthesis. You can use it for all kinds of wacky sounds, beyond just retro sounding drums. The EA1 is a rather simplistic 2 part mono synth, but having a sequencer makes it worthwhile because you can't really find a synth groovebox in its price range, except for some older ones like the MC 303.
@p3on Just haven't felt the necessary amount of inspiration to make any more videos. I have made a few tracks on the PC but I don't feel like posting those as videos, or sharing them on any site like soundcloud. I appreciate your kind words and I'm glad I could bring you some musical enjoyment!
@vegeta897 Ahh, my bad! I just thought that the ESX and EMX were the only solid coloured ones (save for the EM-1). Plus, the synthamasizer database I use is vintagesynth, and they left the MKIIs out of their database! So, honest mistake?
I just realized how creepy that sounded... If you're in the Seattle area, I'd like to work with you. Hey...does this sound creepy too? Lol. Shit. Sorry. But seriously. Love what you're doing.
The drums are coming from the bronze Electribe ER1. You can assign which note each drum part has, and they will send to the midi output on the channel you want.
wow great job. I have that shirt too. I didn't realize at the time though that the dollar is worth 1/2 a pound :( don't be ashamed of you aphex obsession!
I have both located for $150 each. I have a kind of rig up now with a monotron delay and a bent casio mt-520, but the drums are dead in my casio, I'm looking for something I could use as an effect and some like bassy tempo.
I just picked up an Electribe SX. I have no idea what i'm doing with it other than the drum machine. Im still having difficulty sampling audio input devices
Bruh. This shit straight savage. I mean I love the original, but c'mon. You killed this.
Thanks!

+Jonas Serra So awesome to hear that, thanks for coming back to leave a comment :D
Apparently I'm up to 10 years, now. Yep, still sick as hell! Cheers!
Me too like 10 years,I didn't buy the set,but always enjoy this cover
This is the most my-dream-childhood thing I’ve ever seen. Synths, drum machine, Aphex shirt, CDs, Mario bros on the DS. You have got it all! Thanks too for the awesome cover!!
Hahaha, thank you!
Still hands down the best AFX cover there is! It got so much character like its another jam version of the original 💜
Thank you!
Love that this track is still up after all the years.
Love that I still get comments!! Thank you!
@@vegeta897 It’ll last forever. It’s *such* a good cover.
Still one of my favorite videos on UA-cam. I'll keep coming back.
Good work man, it's my favourite track from the Analord series and you've done it justice.
Great cover man, I think I actually like more than the original.
Thanks guys! I'm so glad you enjoy it!
Thanks everyone. Didn't expect this to get such a good reaction. Although I must say I am proud of the ending. All improv.
I can't believe I'm saying this...but, I like this version of "I'm Self Employed" more...mainly cause of the variation in beat, the bass and everything in general. If you could make this a full fledged song, that would be amazing!
Limitations breeding some incredible creativity...damn, I'm going to have to buy an EA-1 mkii now hahaha
oh man finding this video again, used to watch the shit out of this and envied you so much for the electribes as a kid :D
Haha, I love that.
great, very cool. stumbled upon this way late but it is rad

And a biiiig super thank you for buying my EP over on Bandcamp! You're the first person outside of close friends to buy it 🙇♂️

Cover jam is a good way to put it.

For a jam song, this is choice.
Awesome job on it, peace.

Yes! This is really good, I love the way you made it your own with the synth and drum roll on that snare!
Took me so long to find this again but i'm glad i did, I personally really enjoy it man.
Great effort.
One of my favourite recent aphex tracks. Obviously yours is much rawer but that is a quality in itself.
Well done.

Love the drum flams on the ER!
Good stuff dude. Loving those synth sounds, half tempted to have a crack myself if i could afford the gear. Anyways, keep it up.
I really enjoy your tunes! Great job, 5 star, subscription added

You really did a great job with this man. BIG UP!!!!
Thanks! I remember time when I just had my ER1. I sort of miss those days.
Love the roll at the end of that loop.
This is fking awesomeee I love it

Thank you for saying so 🥰

Really awesome dude =) I like your version more then RDJ original, really =)
Nice cover jam man
The only thing the audio needs is to be a bit compressed, but other than that, it's pretty awesome.
Cheers
Thanks!
I don't know what you mean by 20 patterns of information. This is one 4 bar pattern on each machine.
It's a for-fun cover jam, not a planned out or faithful remake.
Thanks man!
In this vid I use Korg ER1 mkII and EA1 mkII with Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer.
Check the description next time :)

omg, this is very very good!
Korg EA-1 mkii and ER-1 mkii, mixed by a Behringer Xenyx802 and recorded on my computer with Goldwave.
Yeah, sequencers are pretty necessary if you've got a lot of keyboard synths and you want to jam! I'll be needing one eventually.
Awesome, just awesome!

@vegeta897
Roland TR-606 reference aside, this is a pretty good track.
Now, I wanna grab myself a Electribe : D
That's the EA.
Thanks for watching!
Phat beatz

Nice work!!
Very interesting. I've never seen anything like it.
hahaha very cool! How have I never seen this??
I just realized how creepy that sounded... If you're in the Seattle area, I'd like to work with you. Hey...does this sound creepy too? Lol. Shit. Sorry. But seriously. Love what you're doing.
Thanks! I'm in Ohio.
very nice indeed
