    I absolutely love Tavern Puzzles. I once worked in a gift shop here in Atlanta and we sold them. We sold 12 of them, I mastered all of them except this one. The only clients who seemed to be able to do this one were Engineers. The name of the gift shop was Gifts Extraordinaire, we were in Galleria Mall.

    My grandpa brought this from his work camping. Took 5 hours to solve. One of the hardest I’ve ever done. Since it took so long and I had a bunch of mistakes I had no clue how to put it back. Had to watch this in reverse to put it back together... felt impossible for the longest time

    Even though this require a lot of steps I don't think it belongs in the complex category - difficult is more like it.
    Have had it in my collection for some years but have been packed away since I moved. Been intimidated to try it. Having solved most of the others (except Freedoms Ring even though I eventually mastered Sneaky Pete and not reassembled Double Trouble/Matched Set) I figured - let's try it. Once I got the hang of it it was just follow a pattern - and sure enough eventually pin 6 was free - 5 even faster and so on. Reassembly was amazing fast now I got the sequence.
    There's only a few basic steps and though you can suddenly do something in the wrong order you really can't really mess it up like some of the other puzzles - only you reverse some of the steps you've already taken. Once you get the hang of it seems natural. Can be I try "Sword of nine seals" (by other manufacturer) just to see if I can master the sequence with 3 more nails requiring 8 times as many moves to free the shuttle (sword). That's the funny thing about this puzzle is that it is binary in nature. It can be arbitrary long but each time you add a nail/ring you'll double the number of moves required to free the shuttle. Hence a 64 nails/rings puzzle you may very well theoretically master - but you'll not have enough time here on Earth to solve it.

      Thanks for your comment. We agree with all you have to say. We list the puzzle as complex because of the number of steps in the sequence; most people see more steps as being more difficult. But once you understand the sequence.....

    You can watch the video once and then you won't need to. There are a few basic concepts, and then it's fairly straightforward:
    1) Hold the puzzle so that the bar is underneath. The ring and its pin farthest to your left is #1. There are 6 rings and their pins.
    2) The pins are always located within the loops of the shuttle (unless that ring is off of the shuttle). If the pin is on the sides of the the shuttle, you're doing something wrong.
    3) You can always add or remove the first ring.
    4) By definition, the lead pin (and its attached ring) is the only one within the loop end of the shuttle.
    5) You can always remove the ring (attached to the pin) that is NEXT (to the right of) to the lead pin. Likewise, you can always add a ring to the right of the lead pin.
    So, starting from the beginning, you could remove ring 2, because it is next to the lead (ring 1). But then you couldn't remove 3 because 1 is the lead. If you remove 1, 2 is now the lead and you can remove 3, but not 4 yet, until 3 is the lead. So, 1 goes back on, then 2, remove 1, 2 is the lead, add 3, add 1, remove 2, remove 1, 3 is the lead, remove 4, and so on. When 5 is the lead, you can remove 6. To remove 5, 4 must be the lead.
    To reassemble it, forget about reversing the moves. You can't add 6 until 5 is the lead. There is no slight of hand. It's all logic. The number of steps doesn't matter. Now, you can do it!

    We love Tavern Puzzles!!! Question: Is the 2nd nail suppose to be able to come out of the hole it hangs in? We just purchased one and the nail keeps falling out. Is this suppose to happen?

    This appears to be related to the Towers of Hanoi. If you're having a hard time following the sequence, the abstraction of a Tower with 6 discs may help.

      You're right. Tower of Hanoi and our Patience Puzzle are variations of the classic Chinese ring puzzle (which traditionally has 9 rings).

    I've managed to get it apart - thanks! Now, it's been apart for over 10 years and I am afraid I will not be able to put it back together again - ever. Any help with that?

    • @TavernPuzzles
      @TavernPuzzles  10 років тому +1

      Sure! To put it back together, you need to work the sequence in reverse. Here's a link to the written solution: tavernpuzzle.com/solutions/patiencepuzzle.htm
      Good luck!

    If you do post a video on how to put it back together, please do it slowly and clearly.

      If you master the concept for taking it apart, you'll be able to follow the sequence backwards if you use the written solution: tavernpuzzle.com/solutions/patiencepuzzle.htm
      Good luck!

    It says the first nail needs to be rotated to unlock the puzzle... That makes no sense to me as to why...

    Do you know what the small puzzle is called its really small and it has two metal cubes sort of connected

    • @TavernPuzzles
      @TavernPuzzles  10 років тому

      Not sure, from just the description. Do you think it is one of our Tavern Puzzles? If it is very small, it probably isn't - our puzzles are all large.

    I can do it a lot quicker than that. Even quicker than this, if I'm not trying to record it, and using gravity a little more. 😁 This is definitely my favorite one. ✌️
