Tomorrow I am scheduled to evaluate a 2001,Kawasaki 250-G Super Sherpa, two owners, always garage kept, reportedly in outstanding condition with just 6,000 miles. Everything works according to the second owner. I am excited to see the bike which looks like new yet it is 20’ years old going on 21 years. Have been looking at any available videos on the bike and came across your video. Thank you for posting. One of the attributes about the bike that were attractive, it’s power to weight ratio, reported reliability and efficient operating engine. The bike has a good reputation which caught your attention too. Again, thank you for posting the video. Cheers,
Enjoyed the video and perspective. I have a SS myself and love it. Can't not comment on the welding with shorts and sleeve less shirt, the second fellow was even wearing flip flops!!!! Good Lord man! Protect your skin!
Didn't realize the sherpas are street legal,I love this bike, and they were sold in the US for a short time.. I want this for my RTW bike, I will have to look into from the US.. But maybe I start my tour in AU.. and get one there, love all the add on you did. You Got serious Talent... MotoCoco
Well done, hope you had an awesome trip, awesome job on the bike. I just picked one of these up as a a bit a project. The plan is to turn it into a bit of an adventurer. At this point don't need a larger tank, but maybe in time... Nice one mate. Nice one!
Awesome ingenuity and fab skills. Though I have a laugh when you say "hope" at the end because it sounds like "herp", so I can't help but think of Sean Connery saying "Super Sherpa". lol
3:40. Hahaah yeah I got the stockman it is my first bike and after doing some welding myself I’ve turned it into a stunt bike so I can do circle wheelies, scrapes and no handers
FirstLight Adv - Great eye, it is a Stockman... well, it’s based on a Stockman, the Super Sherpa is the same bike but with a few small differences to make it road legal. To bend the racks I made a basic bender with a ply wood base, a skateboard wheel as a roller and an off cut length of ally as the handle. It wasn’t the most perfect roll, but worked well enough.
Awesome review. Panniers look good. Nice lightweight set-up. I have seen some more elegant engineering solutions for mounting long range tanks using pool noodles.
How did the panniers/rack hold up? Were you mainly pavement? I'm trying to set up my CRF250L for a Trans America Trail run, and I have bicycle panniers already.
Hey mate, trans America trail run sounds rad, I’ve had my eye on the same ride, and you can’t go wrong on a Honda! We did a combination of trail and road, some “roads” were pretty beat up and probably classified as trail, so maybe half half. The panniers held up well and copped a load of abuse between the monsoonal rain storms, the occasional dropped bike and the time in India were the one of the bags took a direct hit from another bike (hard enough to bend my home made brackets which I bent back into shape by hand). They only required one repair to the bottom of the bag which I had done for free by a friendly bloke in Myanmar, and probably didn’t really need to do. If I was to do the same ride again I would use the same luggage system!
They're pretty cheap man if you scope around the internet for a second hand one. Picked mine up for $1400 with 6000km on the clock, the guy couldnt get the blinkers and headlight going so he sold it on the cheap and I fixed that in an arvo (a couple loose connections).
Hey Pete, yeah I scored mine, it’s an older model but was in show room condition. I bought it aight unseen and negotiated price over the phone not the way I would normally like to get stuff done, but it worked out rad. I found mine on the Bikesales website.

Saw another for 2200 with 18km on the clock, they're out there
