I didn’t mention in the video because I didn’t notice it, but on my second watch I have a little theory for next episode. Fisk sent Leland to speak with Gao prior to the event. When the event takes place with what I’m assuming poisoned drinks, Leland is actually unaffected. I thought in my reaction he was poisoned as well, but I actually don’t think he even took one sip. He just gave the second glass to Vanessa and chatted the entire time. Once the poisoned people fall to the ground along with Vanessa, Leland looks at the drink then simply drops it. I mentioned in the video I believe Gao to be behind this, but now I wouldn’t be surprised if Leland was as well given his chat with Fisk earlier about Vanessa bringing a change to Wilson. I’m thinking either he was working with Gao to “restore his house to order” (Fisks) or Gao simply saw the event as an opportunity and Leland was just flat out fortunate. Can’t wait for next episode regardless!
i love that you can tell that Foggy REALLY wanted to understand, he wanted to be on Matt's side, he stayed in his apartment basically all day just discussing with him trying to figure things out, but he was so filled with emotion that he just wasnt able to get over the fact that his best friend lied to him for years about something so important, the part where he says "i wouldnt have kept this from you Matt" he wholeheartedly means it, and Matt replies with "you dont know that" implying that his perspective is just different but Foggy just knows that if his feelings towards Matt were similar and he was in that situation, he wouldnt have kept it from him, because he trusts him with everything, he quite literally sacrificed the biggest of gigs he couldve had as a lawyer just because he trusted him
4:15 IT IS a site from Spider Man! (great catch btw) In the first Tobey Spider Man, after saving MJ from the green Goblin that is the roof he took her to and said "You know who i am, your friendly neighbourhood Spider Man!"
Also I love the fact that they didn't go the route of Foggy immediately forgiving and accepting that Matt has been lying to him since they met. I mean it makes a lot of sense that Foggy would be hella pissed. It's not a Ned and Peter situation where they were only friends for a few years and that they are kids. These are grown adults who have known eachother for almost 10 years. If i found out that my best friend for 10 years has been lying to me everyday... i would be pissed too :D So i'm glad they took a more realistic approach.
You're like the ONLY one who appreciate this ep of Foggy and Matt (some dare to call it boring and dismiss Foggy's feeling). Kudos!
This is one of my fav episode of s1! I love Matt and Foggy's friendship so so much, probably one of the most realistic reaction of finding out your friend is a vigilante.
This episode might be the single best piece of media in terms of handling the friend finds out about the superhero trope. Some amazing and thoughtful writing in those scenes. They really investigated everything that a character like Foggy might think and say. Also the acting was superb, it felt very natural and not overacted. I felt awkward because it felt like watching a real private moment between 2 friends rather than the usual 2 minute dramatic shouting fest that most TV shows and movies go for. Also Matt eventually breaking down and crying looks like a real person crying with his voice breaking and him making unphotogenic expressions. Really good stuff.
I really love how they wrote the conversatio between Foggy and Matt intertwined with the flashbacks, and I don't mind flashbacks if they give more context to the character as a whole and context clues to a future event. Like I can understand why Foggy is upset its not like Matt has super strength or anything he's just an acrobatic guy with heitened hearing senses lol no healing no nothing. very well done and wtf yea did Gao do that or was it maybe Wesley ? idk why he would do it but I feel maybe he had a hand in something behind the scens
