I stumbled across this Vlog/blog a few weeks ago, and now I am hooked. Two people with what I think are opposite personalities who mesh together beautifully. I am envious of Amy’s eclectic tastes, but at someone about to turn 70, I could never pull them off. I am living vicariously through you two adventuresome young people. Enjoy every moment!
As a Bristol born n bred lass, with dreams of a narrowboat, this vlog made me a bit emosh! I'm such a sap! Love, love, love your vlogs! May see you on the high seas one day! 😄
I'm living vicariously through you two. I would have loved to do this in my younger years, but something always got in the way. Now I have you both to take me narrow boating. Safe travels!
What a wonderful day! I am so impressed with how far you both have come. I would love to have a conversation with Wes at the beginning of your adventures (almost a year and a half ago) regarding today's cruise and whether or not he would do it. I am sure he would have had a much different response than today's mild trepidation and almost excitement. Well done to the both of you. Now I am looking forward to your adventures in the city!
Thank you!! We both absolutely loved the harbour cruise, it was a real core memory! I totally agree! I’ve definitely gotten braver with stuff like this, and almost at the point of being excited! Thank you so much for the kind words, and the fact you noticed it means a lot! 🥰 (Wes) x
What an awesome adventure with beautiful Bristol Harbour your destination. The excitement and happiness you exuded was heartwarming 💕 great video as always.
Amy, Wes, what an amazing adventure you are having. I was on the edge of my seat once you hit tidal waters. Great video and well done. Rufus looked cute when he was asleep on the stern. Dupes, is as cute as ever.Take care.
So good to see you enjoying my hometown of Bristol. I still consider it my home despite living in West Australia since 1969. It always makes me excited to see beautiful Bristol Harbour. Enjoy all the Bristol sites.
Epic voyage guys but we'll worth it😉 I love Bristol waterfront day and night. Hope you four are well and not been sea sick yet lol🤣 lots of love as always xxxx
At the beginning of our journey, I think I’m where Wes was at the beginning of yours. It really helped to watch this episode and realise that everything is possible and an adventure. Thanks guys.
Woo hoo!! Another great adventure. You two truly know the meaning of ‘teamwork’!! Congratulations on a wonderfully successful trip!! Thanks for sharing your adventures, I look forward to seeing more!
Amy and Wes what a great vlog, you both worked well together to get to the harbour. Make sure you don't sale across the ocean to France 😂have a great couple days. ❤😊
Always enjoy You two and your adventures. I follow you on a big map of the canals. I’m an old great granny but I really appreciate you putting these videos up so I can join you on your journey.
what a fantastic vlog. Your vlogs are always realistic. all the ups & downs of narrow boat life. This one was extra special, I could really feel the excitement. Thank you for including the harbour tour & the excitement of it all. It was especially great to see the harbour with tall ship replicas. I am in Australia & a family tree researcher & some of my ancestors left that harbour in the early to mid 1800s for the 3month journey to Australia. Unfortunately some spent months on ships in the harbour too, on the prison hulks. I am sure the harbour would not have looked that glamorous then though either. keep up the great vlogs.
I love seeing you two living your best lives! When rocking chair time comes for you, you will know you did it your way! What memories you will share and enjoy. Go on with it!!
Awesome thank you guys. Bristol has a beautiful harbour. The SS Great Britain used to do the voyage from the UK to Australia carrying passengers and wool.
Wow what a great cruise at sunset around the harbour. Bristol looks like a beautiful city. You both did really well on the tidal river. I bet it was fun to do with your friends too. Take care. Nick
Bath born and bred - Learnt to sail a dingy on the River Avon at Salford! Just ahead of that lock by the pub! Have had a narrow boat “holiday life” as my In-laws had a narrowboat for a while. We did this exact journey to Bristol Harbour Festival one year and it’s bring back wonderful memories. Please do keep an eye out for canal boat “Totty” - 40ft - last seen on the K&A at Foxhangers and “Indulgence” 60Ft (i think)! Happy days! Good times!! Hopefully again one day!
Absolutely brilliant episode. I might have to cruise that way and commandeer my next vessel. 😊 I'm so happy you have settled into boat life and part of the family. X
Great video thanks guys Don't forget to change your secondy fuel filter....The one you drained the water out of ..Before it gives you trouble thanks again 😊
So glad I had your lovely vlog to watch should have been in hospital having a new knee but it got cancelled last minute you cheered me up thank you xxx
This was such a great adventure. I loved seeing how excited you were at having accomplished it and your celebration at the end was very fitting. I got hooked on your vlog quickly because you're so real, showing us the good days and bad. Every vlog is a new adventure and I look forward to many more of your adventures!!
Hey there Amy, I’m not sure if someone answered your question about what the “S” shapes were on some of the canal bridges, BUT.,,it/they are Masonry Wall Ties. It’s a long metal rod that goes through the bridge from one side to the other, held in place by the “S” that’s attached to both the rod and the bridge. This supports the bridge and it ties the structure together. The rod part is hidden within the structure. It’s pretty clever when you think about it. And it makes sense when you understand what they are doing. I think that the “S” is called the Anchor Plate that is attached to a Tie Rod. Some other canal bridges have the same thing , but with anchor plates shaped like a big “X” and others have circular shaped plates that look a LOT like nipples. If you google S shaped anchor plate and/or Masonry wall ties, you will find lots of information and LOTS of images of ALL the different shapes 🙂 You also see these in brick walls and on the outsides of brick houses. As the FengShui dude says - And now you know 🤣 🙂🐿🌈❤️
I’ve visited Bristol quite a few times over the last few years…walked around that harbour alot and up on the hill in the park overlooking SS Great Britain, but it must have been awesome from water level! 😌🙏
It's so strange seeing you come through Bristol because I lived there for 6 months just before I bought my boat and spent a lot of time near the canal. I lived near Netham Park next to the canal and walked Bertie along there every day. Strange that I'm no longer there anymore but you're cruising through. 😊
Started watching you on the Erewash canal where I grew up and swam in the canal as a kid, and this episode is Bristol where I live now and got married on the SS Great Britain. Nice…
Wow! Absolutely loved this vlog. It's nice having the remote spots, but then having the option to experience this too. Yous are truly living, and getting to explore so much 😊 We miss boat life! Bec and Nick xxx
Well done. That was a fantastic journey to Bristol Harbour. You were both so confident, which was great tobsee. You should be really proud of yourselves. Can't wait for the next episode.
We noticed the amount of rubbish in your canals when we did the Brecons circa 2003. Came as a bit of a shock from clean old Aotearoa such disregard for the countryside in Wales..and it seems most other areas of the UK. Love your vlogs though.
Some areas are better than others for sure. It’s a shame when you see it we agree ☹️ but it’s not everywhere at least and we try and do our bit when we can!
