Fr
Josefppaz yet
But he is gay. Won't that change anything?
I was able to purchase all the parts for the shift knob and get all the required tools from harbor freight all for under $80. Which is still half the price of ordering a completed one online. Thanks for the video man, really appreciate it.
This is probably one of the most helpful niche videos on UA-cam, thanks man!
I did this for myself and so far so good. thanks for the tutorial. I put it on a thrustmaster shifter and I had a buddy machine out a piece of aluminum and thread it as an adapter. Couldn't be happier!
I ordered my parts to do this. Thank you SO much! Been wanting one of these ever since I saw an skrs was announced, but never wanted to pay over 100 for a simple know with 2 switches.
I just finished building my shifter using this guide. It works great. I especially like the suggestion to put the little piece of zip tie over the hi/low range button. I didn't put that in originally and then had to take it apart and install it later. I spent a little more than I originally planned, but I liked the challenge of doing it myself. I wasn't really doing it for the money savings anyway, I could have easily just bought one ready to go from ebay.
Hey man, appreciate this! I made one yesterday following your guide! Saved me over $100. ♥️
I am about to do this! thank you so much for this tutorial I really appreciate it, and also for the list of parts need it. Great Job explaining.
Used this vid to make my own shift knob and I’m loving it so far I had to buy an adapter for my Logitech shifter but I may need another one because mine didn’t fit the threads it was just a little to small but I’m making it works. The video is great you explained everything clearly and showed where to put everything. Now I wanna get different ends and make a custom one soon
Hey bro thanks alot again..... I've taken 3days to build and complete and now I'm trying to learn the shifting pattern and mechanism of the whole thing.... thanks very much man 👌💯😁😁😁
Already bought off etsy but if I knew about this before purchase, I would of did this ! Awesome video , will continue to share
awesome video! i built mine almost exactly how you did it and it's been flawless for 105 hours of play. thousands of split shifts and no issues! i also really like the feel of the heavier real shifter and you can't beat the price...
Great instructional vid, easy to listen to and easy to understand.
You need to make more like these!!!
I was thinking about buying one, but I'll give this a go, just to learn a new skill. Thanks for sharing bud!
Thanks for the video this really helped me out. Finished mine today and it works like a charm! Got everything for 62 Euro (shipped to Belgium from Amazon).
Hey Dirk where did you find the button for the grey splitter I looked on Amazon and I cant find it if you can put a link where it is it will be greatly appreciated
Very good. I had already ordered the knob ( red lever) when I saw this. It was nice to get confirmation I can convert it to 18 speed and that I was going in the correct direction. Once the manual switch based one is done ' gong to research hall effect switching.
Glad this video helped!
Amazing job going through this. The only thing I have to be careful of is not confusing the wires. I have the metal top so I can add a shifter ball so will see how that goes. Probably have to drill into the top part of the metal.
I’m gonna make a left hand drive one and a right hand drive one, amazing tutorial mate will keep me busy while COVID is around
Greetings from New Zealand
Glad I could help
Thanks for the inspiration! with you video, I decided for the more realistic knob route, instead of a pre-built solution...
Interesting vid I may have to try that sometime. Your video on custom skins you made my workload a lot easier. Thank you!
Thanks for the DIY video, I just built my first shifter and followed all your steps and parts and it works like a charm. Thank you
Do you know of it would work on xbox
@@davidmerryfield4791 its doubtful that the joystick circuit board that's been used in this tutorial will work on the Xbox, the xbox controllers use a special microchip to authenticate them to the xbox so it stops users from using clone joysticks like this.
Great video , thank you. I used a chinese replacement shift knob so this might not apply. I recommend carefully dissasemling the top and bottom of the knob and take out all the rubber orings, and pieces needed for the air control. It makes the switches move much smoother.
Thank you for sharing links for the stuff I've got a 10 speed knob that Im gonna be doing this too thank you very much!!!!
Thank you, I just finish mine, not perfect like yours or easy like I tought, lol!!!
But, I made it.
Also the inmersion of the game increase greatly with this add on.
Cheers.
Happy it worked out.
Dudee appreciate this soo much there companies selling this kind of stuff for over 200 bucks
This answered my question. And thanks for the quick disconnect idea. It's gonna run to my already made diy button box
I am going to do this! My dad has his own shop and already said he’d give me a shifter so worst case, I need to ask him for help... but this is better then me spending 160$ cad for a shifter
Man if it weren't for you I would've given up long story short I got a shifter from someone it worked for day all the wiring is shot so now I'm going to follow your video step by step and do it right just waiting on Amazon to deliver the goods lol 😆 thanks for the video its appreciated
Awesome tutorial! I just built this shifter and it works great, However I ended up with a 13 speed shifter and I think the internal air valve boxy is different as the hole I had to drill for the wires was a little funky. Also be very careful with the momentary inside, needs to be just right to get the right feel.
Hey bro I really thanks for this tutorial it is really well explained everything keep up with the best of your knowledge. Like you say to build it or buy from someone else if we don’t have the tolls well. I hed order one from somebody and it just worked for one week so by saying that sometimes is better to by ourselves and stop waiting or time and money with somebody else!!!!!
This is a good project to start, thanks for sharing
This is an awesome video it helped me out a bunch. Great job buddy ..Thanks
Awesome video! I just did this mod to actuate an electric exhaust brake on my actual truck and it works great! I even made a video about the install!
hey man I was able to build mine using your video, thankyou so much.
Happy that after many years this is still helping out!! Thank you for the comment.
Man thank you so much. After all the crap going on I just got back in to pc and having to rebuild my old pc having the motherboard and the gpu crap out and gpus being crazzzzzy priced (just got a zertoc 1650 oc for freaking $400 us crazy expensive no choice lol) now I can actually make my own instead of spending 160 on one that's for euro trucks cause they done make American ones anymore. Only thing I'm gonna have to find is the thread for the shifter to the th8a shifter. Thanks so much bro 🙏
Man, the internet has ruined my attention span... lol I had to watch this on 2x speed, because it feels like he just drags on and on - but yet I'm aware the problem is me, and not his video style - since all he's doing is giving a thorough walk through.
Damn you interwebz!
Sometimes even 2x is too slow...
I had ordered a shifter from tech affliction in March but they never shipped it to me, and for lack of anyone else really making a decent on that won't break the bank, I decided I'm going to do this.
I only recently got into ETS2 after been given a Logitech force gt.. a few months on, and all dlcs for ETS2 and ATS. I also just bought a Logitech G27 and have ordered all the parts I need to do this.. I love You Tube when peeps share great things like this - Can't thank you enough and look forward to making this.. Many thanks for such a great detailed video !!!
Man, I am building my own shifter. Moffos raised the price from 30 to 140 for a shifter. Asshats lol thanks for the video ! I'll be able to make my own now 😀
Happy to see I could help.
excellent, I will try to do it. greetings from Mexico
Brother, you could’ve made a 20 min video of how to actually do all the soldering, drilling, etc While I appreciate the time you took for all the explanation, we usually look for the meat of how to do things.... Thanks tho, this will save me half price on something as simple as it is. Thank you so much!
I TOTALLY Agree! He Kept Babblin on and could've Got to the Meat n Potatoes in a 10 min video,.. Geez.

great job man i've watched this 3 or 4 times now i really appreciate the knowledge bro great job god bless u man tnxx🙌🔥👌
I'm anticipating a build soon bro
thanks for the tips for building our shifter
Very good. I already have a lot of switches from the arduino beginner set, so im guessing ill use those
Very informative video, thank you for that.
when the range lever is down the piece that sticks up inside, if you just drill a small hole sideways an hot glue a rivet shaft in it that overhangs you could put your always open micro switch in the cavity to the side of it facing up that way no wires running through the head an no need for special switch
Thank you man, really helpful.
Awesome video you just save me from spending $200 for one going to make my own..Thank You...
Thanks so much for this, I suspected that this could be done, but wasn’t sure I wanted to toss my money at it on a hunch, now I have some assurance and I’m going to save a bundle.
Edit: spelling
Good video..thanks for the help!
Great video! Do you by chance know what type of adapter I need to attach it to a TH8A shifter? I can't seem to find anything that will work.
Bad ass truck you got!!
I’m currently getting mine built, just waiting on range button.
I'm interested how that quick connect works since I switch games pretty often aswell
The best tutorial I've seen for this! Thanks for the in depth guide on how simple it can be! I do have a quick question, if it's just for this project, what gauge wire and size of heat shrink tubing would you recommend, given the experience you have with building this twice over?
To be honest, I had a variety pack of heat shrink tubing that I bought wit different sizes, and I picked the one that worked. As per the wires, I used an old data cable, like the ones for a phone or an ethernet cable and spliced it. Hope that helps.
@@CSTGaming It does! Thank you. Any suggestions for a quick connect? I'm excited to see someone else had a similar idea to mine, I plan to also build a handbrake and ignition/button box that go into the same encoder, and figured that having one encoder would be more simple, especially if I could pick and choose which devices I wanted to use at the time.
@@Emcipio for a quick connector I suggest going to a hobby shop and look at what they have and pick out the one that works best for you.
CST Gaming I’ve decided to go with 6-Pin MOLEX. Thanks for your help! Kept me under budget!
@@Emcipio I am really glad I could help. That is the reason I made this video. Also don forget to sub and if you like join my Discord for more interaction.
I was wondering if you can provide a link for the quick disconnect adapters
Thanks for this video my friend. Going to give it a try when all the parts arrived. Question: For drilling the hole, could I put the drill bit up through from the bottom where the hole already exists, to ensure I get it lined up properly?
You can do it whichever way works best for you my friend. Glad this was helpfull
Hey CST do you know the size of the inner thread on the shifter so I can get an adapter also thanks?
I think Im gonna try and 3D print my own 'handle' and buy some some toggle switches and a button for jake brake and see how it works, If I cant make my self a decent 3d model of a shifter etc I will probaly just buy one :D
Only thing I can't seem to find is a adapter for the shifter to the th8a thrustmaster
Wow, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. There are some knobs with electronic shifters (like MAN), which have a wire coming out of them. Do I need just the USB Joystick setup thing? No additional wiring of the knob itself?
I can't answer that for sure because I have never seen them. However it seems possime if the switches are already there.
can you help me out if i wanted to make this but with switches instead of buttons witch ones do i use?
Thank you very much for the tutorial. I have seen that the knob you suggest is no longer available on amazon, could you please suggest another one? Also, any idea to fix the knob on the logitech g29 shifter
I just bought one from amazon, so it looks like they are being stocked again, ebay also has loads of them on there as well, failing that AliExpress and Banggood have them but they will take a while to turn up
Great vid ! thanks for saving me some cash bro ggs
This is a good video I just built mine while watching your video everything from Amazon...at a cheap prize..
Glad it helped bro.
@@CSTGaming it did what's a good way to put this on the g29 shifter..
@@maniacmachanic9870 I drilled the front screw hole all the way through, tapped it and used a longer screw.

how do you mount to g29 shift handle?
Muchas gracias por compartir tu conocimiento... Dios te bendiga.
De nada.
also the eaton fuller knob listed is currently unavailable on amazon
I finally decided to buy a shifter for use with ATS and this video is fantastic. DIY definitely beats the heck out of spending a load of cash. I have a question about the button used for the range selector: have you experienced any wear to the top of the button? Seems the cap is plastic and would wear pretty quickly with the range lever being metal. I'm considering gluing a thin piece of metal to the button cap just to be safe. I suppose that could be done later if it does wear, though.
Thanks for the great vid.
I have used mine since the day I made this video. So far I have not experienced any wear or issues with any of the buttons. I'm glad to hear this video is still helping people out.
I finally got mine. Is the upper part smelling on yours as well? It smells like bad PVC, softener? not sure if I wanna use it. Its from China and not the original one from Fuller. Looks like it was a bad decision
great video. is there an adapter to moun this to a logitech shifter/
Is that a 12mm or 16mm brake switch?
Great video!
I grabbed some parts, and am awaiting the delivery anxiously. What I don't know though is, what and how did you get the new shift knob to attach to the existing G27 shaft?
I know TTD had a part machined, but I didn't see anything in your video on that aspect of assembly.
Thanks!
You can buy an adapter on ebay for around $10, or make one if you have the tools to do it.
@@CSTGaming I havent found one yet with the needed 13 TPI of the Eaton shifter.
As to making it, I don't have access to the tooling needed.
Thanks for all the information from this! I just have on issue, I need a way to mount the threaded shifter mount on to my Logitech driving force shifter. I see all of theses other shifters using set screws Any ideas?
When I used it on my logi shifter, I drilled and tapped a hole and used a set screw. You can also have an adapter 3d printed or buy one on ebay.
how can skip loop for range
Does anyone know what gauge wire to use?
Thanks for the video! Definitely going to make this soon! Also, Does it just mount to the G27 shifter? Or do I have to do any specific mods to get it to hold?
Need to buy or make an adapter for the g27.
@@CSTGaming Do you know where find it? A find an universal adapter, but it's on the European dimension (M12). But de 1/2"-13 it's needed.
@@TheSmithersKillers I have seen them on ebay.
dose this work on any shifter?
Will any Eaton Fuller-style 18-speed knob have the same inner structure as the World American you used? I was hoping to find a World American knob to remove all doubt, but the only ones I can find online so far are 10 speed. Also: Could you tell us what size bits you used to drill the various holes? Did you use a Dremel to cut the hole for the Jake brake switch? And, finally: Is a special bit required to drill through the metal for the hole you run the wires through? Thanks!
I'm looking at a knob from Customer Driven, which is the one that comes up now with the link you provided. It's got some bad reviews, but they're from people trying to use it on an actual truck. :)
As far as I know, they are allpretty much the same. Also, reviews of a knob, as you stated are meant for real application.
Could i use the USB joystick board to wire gauges ? Or is it just for buttons and switches
No. For gauges you would need an arduino
Hey buddy, can you clarify a couple things for me? I ordered a tactical push button for the splitter. Should I have went with a momentary switch to replicate a realistic splitter? I feel the open circuit push button I ordered will require me to push the splitter forward twice to select between H/L. The correct way should be L = forward, H = backward, correct? Great video, bro! I'm just a little confused on the logistics of how the buttons should function. Thanks!
A tac switch is what you should go with. If you follow my video you will have no issues. Parts are listed in the description
I just bought all the parts for under 50 I am going to make one only thing Is that the usb encoder you listed is not available any more so I got one for 10 that has a detachable usb but has the same functions that yours has... thanks man these things are like 150 160
how much to buil one and how much to ship it please
If you can’t get the range charger switch like your ones because I’m in aus is there a way the you can change it in the computer or something, because top box is bottom box on my shifter? Cheers mate
I'm sorry. Not sure if you can
where you Solder the wires to the switch could you use shrink tube to make it so the wires don't accidentally touch. I'm just getting in to ATS so this looks nice and cheaper then $160.00. thank you
You sure can man. I'm glad this video helps.
Question can I use one of the normally closed switches for the jake button?
Answered you on discord
Hey. So great tutorial. When I shift into high range it goes into high but I have to drop the range selector to low and back to high again to get it to drop into low again. Any idea why?
Haven't played ATS in a while. But if I remember correctly it's a setting in ATS. There is a box that needs to be checked for the switch to work correctly.
Awesome thanks!!!
so ive build my shifter up from scratch just like yours, but my splitter seems to be inverted ( splitter up LL to 4th) (splitter down 5th to 8th) any idea on how i could fix the issue? i also use SV maping for my button box :)
update, my problem is the switch in the knob, it works the "right'' way, when pressed, power passes thru, when depressed, power does not go thru, so I'm basically setup backwards :(
@@ProjectSKY I was about to tell you that. You got the wrong switch. Glad you figured it out
Don't know if you have fixed your problem yet by putting in another switch, but every gearbox has a SII file (can open it with a text file reader).
In there for every gear there is a setting for the range and splitter for that gear -> selector_1: 0 (your range selector setting), selector_2: 0 (your splitter selector setting) with 0 low & 1 high position).
If you change the 0 with 1 in your splitter the position for your splitter will be changed so selector_2: 0 will be selector_2: 1.
If your splitter knob position is reversed, this will put your splitter button in low and using the low setting and high using the high setting.
Example from : gearbox_layout_eaton_18.SII
Stock setting :
direct_gearbox_gear : _nameless.1ec.0699.7490 {
gear_impulse_index: 4
selector_1: 0
selector_2: 0
gear: 3
name: 1L
direct_gearbox_gear : _nameless.1ec.0699.6bf0 {
gear_impulse_index: 4
selector_1: 0
selector_2: 1
gear: 4
name: 1H
Changed setting :
direct_gearbox_gear : _nameless.1ec.0699.7490 {
gear_impulse_index: 4
selector_1: 0
selector_2: 1 (changed 0 to 1)
gear: 3
name: 1L
direct_gearbox_gear : _nameless.1ec.0699.6bf0 {
gear_impulse_index: 4
selector_1: 0
selector_2: 0 (changed 1 to 0)
gear: 4
name: 1H
You have to change the setting for both the low and high setting for the same gear, and do this for every gear and every gearbox (13 speed, 18 speed etc) that you use.
You can also change this for the range selector if it is inverted.
Don't forget to make a back up first of the files before altering them.
Thank you very much for this video, I just made one last week. What is the best way to mount this on the Thrustmaster shifter?
I'm curious about that, too.
Did you ever find a way to mount this to thrustmaster shifter. I am thinking about making one as was just curious.
Curious aswell. Can't find the size of the thread at 54:51.
Do you recommend solder gun or iron? And what brand or type do you recommend for this job. I want to try to make one myself. Thanks
Solder for sure. Whatever brand you want
Question: With so many people playing ETS and ATS... Why isn't someone besides SKS making and selling these for 60-75$. Profit margin...maybe.. looks the margin would be near 50%. If someone used the zero delay board instead of the arduino costs are lower, See, now I have 19 extra tactile switches, and a few NC red button switches too. So my my count I only need another 30$ shifter, and 9.99 board to do this again, and there's that %50 profit at 80$ retail.
My only question is have you had any problems with the superglued button coming off?
No issues at all.
@CST Gaming how would you wire it up with proximity sensors. The good old 3 wires instead of the simple 2 wires of either off or on?
Not sure I know what you mean.
@@CSTGaming It's a sensor set up, where it senses a reflector or small magnet. TechAffliction uses this method and it ties into a Micro USB controller that uses Arduino programming.. with all my luck i broke the usb connector and have to figure something out. Instead of the 2 wire (on/off) like this method, those sensors have 3 wires.
@@jamesoke7414 I hear you, but I have never used it, so I couldn't tell you.
Currently awaiting my encoder but question now how did you mount the knob to the actual shifter itself?
With an adapter. Make it yourself or buy off of ebay.
@@CSTGaming currently browsing thinking of jerryrigging for now
Is it possible to change the splitter to the right side as I’m in Australia and we drive on the right side. And I can’t find anyone that sells them on the right side only the genuine ones and there like $200 so if anyone could help me find one that would be much appreciated
Not that I know of
Is that knob compatible with a g25 shifter? I mean, will it hold in place?
You will need to buy or make an adapter.
Why doesn’t red light come on for me? I get no light and nothing works my pc recognizes it as generic usb joystick but nothing works.
May be a defective unit. Exchange it for a new one.
