Four-Car CTA Yellow Line (Skokie Swift) Trains - 2022!!!

- During severe snowstorms, CTA operates four-car trains on the Yellow Line for extra traction to the rails. Should a pair of cars gets stuck in the middle of a grade crossing without contact with the third rail, the other pair is served as a backup. Only a pair of cars in the northbound direction is available for passenger service for every train due to the short platforms at Dempster-Skokie.
Enjoy, especially the abandoned, partially demolished Crawford-East Prairie station!

"Only a pair of cars in the northbound direction is available for passenger service for every train due to the short platforms at Dempster-Skokie." Seems pretty short-sighted to have made those platforms long enough to accommodate only two cars.
Skokie is the one!
They should keep it with 4 cars, extend the 2 stations, send it down to the Loop, and combine it with the Pink Line.
It used to change power from 3rd rail to catenary at that railway crossing.
Indeed, there were many videos of that action.
How sad that the only fairly ‘High Speed” speed Line (Skokie Swift) has been transferred to typical Snares paced route. There was a time this route easily pushed the 70mph mark between Dempster and Howard. Sometimes (not often) progress does NOT benefit the consumer.
it's 20 years since over head wires
Indeed
A yellow line with a 4 car train is better than 2.
Eh if only CTA would extend the platforms at Dempster.
@@Jackyliu009 Honestly they should
Probably each railcar is so short that it fits way in the gaps [spaces between two contact or third rails]. The gaps at [ground] railroad crossings are wide. Without an extra pair of railcars, a two-car train must run at full speed, unless the train has motor inverters (of the 5000 or 7000 series rail cars) to keep the traction motors alive.
First!
