I don't remember much, except for: the countless pushups, the 12-mile ruck march, the vivid hallucinations, the helo blast, the bad jump, wanting to throttle another dude on the M60 team, waterborne assault, chatting with trees, the sheer terror after breaking contact, sleepwalking, serenading some RIs to dodge a Major Minus, leaving my atropine injectors with my laundry, leapfrogging after chow, the worm pit, being tossed off a cliff, nearly drowning in the muck, searching Land Navigation course for Ranger Pryor for 2-3 days, that cursed muddy climbing rope, always being the 'lucky' team lead, the deep purple bruising all over my back and legs after being an RI punching bag during hand to hand, sleep being nothing but a myth, chewing the same chicklet all day, losing fillings, munching on indestructible MRE crackers, trading cigarettes for food, dipping instant coffee, making fruit cobblers, chasing that elusive chicken, getting news I was a borderline peer but not peered, finding M&Ms in a new batch of MREs that got tons of candidates DX'd for integrity violations, the beautiful Thanksgiving setup in the mess hall that wasn't for us, the ground shaking in Dugway and going to MOPP-4, trying to light coal in Dugway, accidentally using my beanie as a toilet, ambushing a lost group from the School of the Americas, getting Medvac'd after a bad jump and having an RI drag me back and confiscate my meds, discovering the chow thief was a West Pointer, the live fire patrols in Dugway... and finally being thankful for not getting recycled and not having to repeat any of the phases. After graduation, I got my car from storage, picked up a hitchhiker outside of Benning, and had him drive all the way to Texas while I slept. Oh, that damn RI eating red licorice during our patrols in Dugway, still have cravings for that shit.
Hey Austin, love your videos documenting your experience becoming a Ranger. Im scheduled to ship out to basic later this summer. Later next year i will make my way to RASP. Just had 1 question, How much time did you have to wait until you made your second attempt at doing RASP?
RASP is the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program for the 75th Ranger Regiment. I never applied for 75th and I’ve never been to RASP. RAP week is the Ranger Assessment Phase of the US Army’s Ranger School which is unrelated to the 75th Ranger Regiment. But to answer your question, after I failed RAP week the first time, I started again with the next class. So there was about a 3-4 week gap, if memory serves. If you fail RASP, however, you may not be invited back. It depends on what you failed at RASP. Many a new Soldier has gone to RASP, failed, and then ends up in the 82nd or 101st, or another unit, for a few years before going back. Do not quit. Do not fail. Go prepared. Go confident. Follow instructions and encourage your buddies. Everyday will be a battle in your head. You need to win that battle every day.
What is RAP week? Is that what the old city week is now? That was at Benning, then you went to Darby, Mtns, Dessert, to FL. Just asking, I know things change all the time.
These videos are awesome. Heading to pre ranger and ranger in April. Keep it up! It really helps.
Pre Ranger from Battalion?
These videos you are doing are very insightful, helpful and entertaining.
I am planning on going to Ranger school through the Army National Guard

The Army won't bite. It's fun. I can't believe how lucky I am to get paid to do what I love in uniform. Be all you can be, my friend.
Anyone ever play dark souls? Ranger school is like that. You will die and come back again multiple times.
