Hey Mike n Melissa, great video folks. Lots of good info , especially about being safe with the pressure washer AND air pressured grease guns too. They are great tools but can cause and even kill a person if not used correctly. Remember, don't do as I do, do as I say. Never shoot the water or grease into or on your hands ever. Melissa we are sure glad you got healed up okay and no major damage. Loved the tips on staying on top of putting things where they belong and being ready for the next job. That 2 in 1 chain saw sharpener is the cats pajamas for keeping a sharp saw, follow the directions and touch up everytime you gas up and the saw will cut like new every tank of gas. Thanks for sharing , we appreciate you and your channel.
Its good to get reorganised. Like a breath of fresh air.
You're right. We got snow... Went from about no snow to about 12 new inches. We will send it your way.
It's nice of you to have us all participate in naming the RK37 Mike, but I think you should do it. You are using it all the time. It will just come to you sooner or later.
Years ago, I had an engineering job with a major passenger rail car manufacturer. My job was to improve the throughput of the water pressure testing of the car bodies. My experiences there made me more appreciative of dirt and the minimal negative effects there of. Vanity is worse than neglect.
Got to love the Lock n' Lube!!
I also have the Polaris 900 Ranger crew cab. I love the vehicle. It has one major problem no one told me about. Shortly after I bought mine about 4 years ago, I took it out in the woods, stopped and put it in park on a slope. I was not able to get it out of park. I was able to talk with the sales person and maintenance people at the dealer that I bought it from. The only suggestion that they could give me was to take the weight off the wheels. We were 5 miles from nowhere, only to find the brand-new wench failed and we were unable to take the load off the tires pushing. I applied so much force to the shifter I bent the shifting rods. it took a 5 mile walk and a pull back to the truck, a week in maintenance waiting on parts before the Ranger was ready for any more adventures.
For the RK37, Woody - I've mentioned it before, but I hope there are many people that benefit from your videos like we do. In this one alone you showed 3 items that we bought because we saw it in a previous video (lock n lube, Mingo marker, & chain file). Keep 'em coming!!!!
Yeah, Mikes informative videos impressed me also! Bought a RK 37, with a backhoe, Front end loader, Top Dog granite grapple, RK Box blade, Sthil BR 700 blower, along with a FS 91 R String Trimmer ,and a "loc n lube.! Lol
BUT !,.... My wife got the new car SHE wanted and deserves!
Only took me 25 years to figure that out!
Mike, it always amazes me the amount of toys you have...a Reese hitch mounted vise??? You're my hero!!
Hey Mike, Looks like you have everything but the kitchen sink, but I don't see two very important things, a fire extinguisher and one that is a must is a first aid kit, you spend a lot if not most of the time alone in the woods. Woody would be a good name and love your channel, good stuff. Minto,NB,Canada.
I have the Polaris 6x6 because of the features it has, two up seating and lots of storage, not that I don’t like the other manufactures, it was because this particular unit suits me and what I do.
Mike you get more done after work than I do in a weekend! I do enjoy watching you and Melissa work.
Good video Mike. Looks like you got a lot done. Nice to get everything put back in it's place and freshened up !
This is my first comment on your channel, but when you asked for suggestions for a name for RK 37, the first thing to come to my mind was 'Fire Chief'. I bought a RK 37 near two years ago, and I love it. I live in Hardee County Florida.
By the way, my name is Harry Northup
Just thought I'd share that with all the snow over February, and with the snow we got today the Wisconsin snow total for the season is 98.7 inches. I could of used an RK tractor this year and had it paid off using it for snow removal.
I had the same thing happen to me a couple years ago with my pressure washer. The hose had a pin hole in it next the handle which I didn't know about until I squeezed the handle and it blew a hole in my thumb! My thumb was inflated to about the size of a lemon! Hi pressure water or oil like from your tractor can be dangerous. A little suggestion on cutting dirty wood like you were doing is to have a carbide tooth chain to throw on your saw. I use carbide most of the time and sharpen about once a year with a diamond wheel. I cut about 20 full cords a year plus a couple truck loads of logs per year and never have to stop work to sharpen a chain! Carbide cost about 2 to 3 times as much but lasts 10 to 20 times longer.
The big tool rack is a good solution for you. I needed to keep my cutter on my tractor, both to cut a lane next to fences I want to maintain and for ballast/traction. I was trying to figure a way to handle logistics if I built a carry-all box but that meant I’d be heading back to the shed for the other 3-point hitch tool all the time. I ended up making a box that fit in the FEL bucket. I framed it of salvaged 2x2 oak (ripped a 2x4), and put salvaged metal sheeting (old embossed, not currugated) as the skin. I bent some strap metal and bolted to the top to c-clamp it on. If I need the FEL in the field, the box is light enough to slide out. Similar organizer as the big tool rack, but in my case, only about 2 hours worth of construction labor. Wouldn’t work for you, because you need the grapple instead of the cutter.
Jack, Jake of all trades. It seems to be the most versatile tractor you have.
Whow Mike what i do to my power wash is that i tie up a tie rap to the trigger and keep it with out pressure and that way you take good care of the pump.
Good morning Mike and Melissa... Having to take a little time to regroup, reorganize a little pays off with keeping a clear head when working out there.
Thanks once more for the video.
Just hearing Melissa's story about her thumb gave me the chills. Glad it was not more serious.
At 3:55, I saw an All American Girl and her dog washing a tractor in front of her Jeep, with Old Glory flying high, watching over all of them. Does it get any more American than this? God bless
awesome
All we needed was Mike grilling up a few cheeseburgers on the Weber grill while drinking a Yuengling!!
I was thinking for the RK37 you can call it Clyde short for Clydesdale.. Which we all know is a fantastic work horse. Seems fitting to me for your work horse tractor.
Thanks for sharing!
we have a 250 xlt and a 450 12ft dump and looking at the new ranger for an everyday truck back and forth the wood lot never like for till a bit ago now they are number one i think
You should keep a few shims or cedar shake pieces in your ammo can so when you use that vise you can slide on in on the side of the hitch so it will keep it from moving around when you file on the chain.
Call the RK37 "Woody". Since you do so much in the woods with it.
That's what I was thinking. Woody
Really enjoyed the video, especially the part about touching up the chain saw. Very informative as alway. Thanks again.
Ouch-kabibble! Nothing teaches like failure, just hate it when the lesson hurts so much.
I used the hand sharpener Mike is using and it worked well for a while, but then the results weren’t very good. I finally got around to trying a Harbor Freight chain sharpener that I’ve had sitting on the shelf. It actually worked quite well. I sharpened a dozen chains in about an hour. I’ll have to file the rakers after a couple sharpening, but so far I’m pretty pleased with it.
Love the videos! Cant wait till next one. Call it Big Red, like Big Ben for the Steelers. Have a good one, and stay safe.
Having a battery power grease gun is the way to go. RK37 should be called the beast because of it handling so much firewood and saw logs. Have a great day and be safe
I am in the bullseye of the snow storm. We already got 2 feet of snow and still have about 12 hours of snow to go...
Thats Crazy
Ouch. Accidents suck. My buddy's Polaris broke in half and he didn't abuse it. We have 2 F-150s and 2 F-250s and 2 F-350s. They all work every day.
Milwaukee 18v with locknlube ultimate set up 👍🇦🇨
Great job enjoyed that!!!
I love my 570 full-size ranger. My next one will definitely be a crew cab. I use mine for plowing and running around my property. I keep my saw and supplies in the bed along with recovery straps and chains. I have had Chevy and Ford trucks and I have been pleased with both. My favorite truck was my first new vehicle ever, 1987 Isuzu P'up. Keep up the great work on the videos. Have a day!
Since the RK37 is quite a firewood gathering machine, call it Paul, as in Paul Bunyan.
I like that.
Definitely Paul Bunyan.
I love this idea!
Maybe Blue, as in Paul's Ox
We have the same Polaris Ranger. We love ours too. Added light bars, gun racks, winch and radio. It’s a great tool to have for a farm 👍
I really like those rk tractors wish we had those stores and tractors in Canada.
Yes! I was so happy when my Karsher Power Washer died because the pump was under the engine. I bought a Generack and love it. It’s a horizontal shaft engine and the connections are super easy to get to. It also has a rotary tip which is awesome for cleaning.
Hey Mike
I just got the lock and lube and put it on my new Dewalt Grease gun and that is the way to go. I use it to lube my Gooseneck trailer on a regular basis and makes life so easier.
Keep up the great work love your channel
HELLO, Mike and Melissa. Greetings from Lithuania. This year we have the nice weather too, three weeks no rain, it's dry everywhere, the only problem is cold, this week the temperature is not much above zero Celsius (32°F), but the Sun is shinning every time, so it's not so bad. I think You should name RK 37 "Little Giant" because it quite small, but very powerful with this size.
Tracker time with Tim that is on here. He just got a tool rack. Them are nice. Down here in wv on the farm we just use a old pick up truck to get fire wood.
I saw that
Where you were saying you have to pull the pin out on the vice to sharpen the chainsaw chain, just get a hitch extension. Then you won't have to pull the pin as it will space the vice out further.
This video, Truly an inspiration. Thank you..."Mack Daddy" (Rk37)
I do the same thing every now and then. My buddy and I will usually schedule a maintenance day to clean, grease and service our equipment together.
Regarding the Polaris, I have a Ranger 570 that I really like. It has served me well and has even helped me when I got my tractor stuck. Go to Harbor Freight and buy a winch. You will not regret it.
Thx for sharing guys. Def good lesson learned.
I worked around ultra-high pressure water (up to 55,000 psi) for years when developing custom paint and coating stripping machines. This kind of water pressure can strip ceramic coatings off of jet engine parts, paint off of ship hulls (and leave an etched surface), and cut through metal. People don't give high pressure enough respect until they get bitten by it. The instant, violent abrasion you get from it (which is exactly what Melissa experienced) is not only extremely painful, it is dangerous in terms of contaminants getting forced into your body. The machines use "clean" tap water, but the pumps contaminate that water and you can get a bad, bad infection from it if not treated properly.....sometimes even if you ARE treated. Glad to hear Melissa's injury was not worse and she recovered from it fully.
A man and his big boy toys I need more toys. Happy Spring
Hi Mike and Melissa! Steve from Pa. Thank You! I really enjoy your videos.
First time commenting I think. Alexandria, Indiana is where I live. I say call the RK37 Jack because it’s a Jack of all trades!
A good name for the RK 37 Mike would be Mighty Midi since it is midsized compact
You've definitely got some advantages over my Kubota. Hard to grease, powder coat chips, but it does do a lot of work.
You can buy a hitch receiver extension that will resolve that vise clearance issue. Then you won’t have to worry about loosing the vise due to forgetfulness!
Glad that you are well. If all else fails, read the directions!
Paul Bunyan for the RK 37.
I noticed you sharpen free hand; I always engage the chain brake while I sharpen. I wonder if there is any difference? Next time I sharpen I will try the free hand technique.
Your Ranger looks good for its age. My Ranger 800 Crew is just a little older, but a lot more battered. I made the mistake of not getting a steel skid plate, so you can watch the terrain as you pass over it in some spots. I have had to replace the winch. The factory steel rims and tires did not make it over a few months and had to be replaced with aluminum wheels and 8 ply tires to survive the rough creek crossings we have on the property. Big difference since they have lasted six years.
One thing I do if I want to rinse my hand with it running is I take the color nozzle tip out of the wand that way the psi is close to tap water pressure
Also love my Stihl 2-in-1, but unfortunately it doesn’t work so well on the skip tooth that I run now.
I took your advise on the Lock-n-Lube but I put it on a Milwaukee 18v cordless grease gun. Like it so much for tractor and backhoe that I purchased a second one for the grease required in boat trailer hubs.
You can get a extension for that vice. It goes in the reciever and the vice goes in it. God bless
Scorpion would be a good name for the RK37.
good video, i actually did a little regrouping today myself, my shop is(was) an absolute mess. trying to make room so i can bring the rk55 home this weekend and do some yard work and get it cleaned up. dont have running water at the farm.HAVE A DAY👍👍👍👍👍
The only thing I dont like about the ranger even though I don't have one is the price and nice video Mike keep up the amazing work
Another great video Mike! I’m stuck inside waiting for this thunder snowstorm to pass. It’s nasty out there. I’ll be plowing again soon. 🥶
Keep on tractoring and God bless
I heard you guys are getting it lol, 60 and sunny here my friend!
High pressure water and Steam ain't nothing to mess with. Assumption is the mother of all screw ups. Glad Melissa is ok. And thanks for the safety time out.
Notice Stanley was checking the gate , I guess he wanted to sneak out for a bit 👍🇺🇸
Bud J hahaha. That’s always on his mind.
She was very lucky. I have heard of guys (know one) getting hit with high pressure fluid in the finger and hitting bone and going up to the elbow and losing part of their arm.
All positives today.
Good Handclap
Nice Carhartt shirt.
Careful with those pressure washers, some industrial duty machines can cut 1/4” plate, but it seems like you made a complete recovery.👍👍
There is a certain zen Buddha like ( whatever that is) tranquility and sense of accomplishment
associated with sharpening a chain saw, and I agree with you that new sharpening tool is great.
Mike you sure seemed relaxed and kind of philosophical when you were sharpening your saw.
In fact I think I sometimes rather sharpen my chain then actually cut firewood
Or ‘ something like that’
Thanks for doing what you do
Watching your videos makes our day 👍🇨🇦
Well, with the way that you blaze the trails on your property with the RK I'd call it Kit Carson.
Not much (k?)nightriding here
Thanks Mike, another good one! The locking grease coupler was interesting, 1st I've seen one. I use a pistol grip grease gun, so as my other hand is freed up this way.
After many years of using a similar chainsaw sharpening tool as your Stihl, mine is a Husqvarna, it works great, however, I have learned through experience, it is NOT necessary to file the rakers down for every tooth sharpening, approx. every third sharpening, approx. 1 or 2 strokes with the flat file on the raker is all that is needed. What I have experienced 1st hand is to much of an aggressive chip occurs, because the rakers are to low from too much filing. It is hard on the saw & it wears the chain out that much quicker. There are different schools of thought on this subject, however after over 40 years of using chainsaws & doing most my own maintenance on them, my technique has worked well for me over the years. I love the Wilton vise mounted in the hitch rec'r. as that is one slick setup!
Best,
Bill... :~)
@William Farr - Check out video #55
@@shawnb2927 Thanks for the tip Shawn. I did indeed check it out! I'll try my local parts store 1st & maybe get lucky...
Bill... :~)
Grapple master for the rk37
Love this Couple x
Did same thing with my pressure washer mike and beautiful Melissa
I have the RK37's cousin the Mahindra 2538. I call mine Marfa, which stands for mechanically assisted relocation for anything.
Hi Mike, great video as always. I know you've talked about sawmills before but I can't remember if you looked at the Woodland Mills from Canada. That's what I will probably be getting when the time comes.
Have a look, if you haven't already.
Congratulations to your daughter!
I'm looking forward to that blind you're going to build
I worked for a company that did pressure washing one of the workers got hit by the water at the hospital they treat it like a gunshot wound. It bad stuff. Great video
RK37 should be Goldilocks. It's just the right size, not too big, not too small
so sorry to hear about the injury . sure glad healed . great woodlot . please keep up the good work equipment looks good. nice to see well maintained . some of my stuff goes. back 40tys st8ill good not competive but love em god bless
Also, I think “Buddy” would be a good name for the RK37
Ha Mike you mentioned about the blizzard in the upper midwest. Well here in northwest Iowa we got about 10 inches. We got plenty to share with you
Love that tool rack !!
Loved the video Mike, nice job on the chain saw sharpening. And greetings from North Wales 🏴
I have that sharpener love it
WOW. I saw my pal run a pressure washer over his bare foot. Blew most of the skin clean off
I bet you can guess what I'am going to say. "ARMSTRONG " I came up with this name watching you use the grapple and loader bucket like a arm and Mike has mentioned many times how strong this tractor is.
We like our Ranger... The belt engagement / clutch makes it a bit jumpy at times... But its great to have.
Looking at getting a chainsaw this spring so will be following up on some of your videos and look into the sharper.
I don’t own a Polaris but live in the state there made in and past experience is they are very good machines IF you take care of them ! Just like a Ford or a Chevy or a Honda PM’s mean preventative to me ! And it was nice of you to let her play with your toy ! My wife wouldn’t ever use a pressure washer EVER ! Lol
I agree with Dean Levang... call it "Paul". :-))
Pressure washer and air compressors can unleash a lot of air or water force instantly, and do a lot of work or damage if not used properly. Take care and be safe.
Contact RODE about the mic. It should have a warranty. I have one of those mics and never had an issue.
I use an Ammo Can (50 Calibre) as My Stuff Carrier for Everyday Life, certainly Saves My Pockets.
Organized by putting equipment back to where it is stored!
I think you should call him (The RK 37) Sparky. Since you use it for firewood and it is red Sparky would be a great name. Thanks for what you do from Northern Utah
try to use the same number of strokes per tooth. keeps them all even/equal.
I notice as well. Always try to use the same amount of strokes on all teeth to help keep them reasonably the same size Mike.
Mike, it is good to take a few mins or even a whole day to regroup, it gives you a chance to fix things that are not quite right, look for things that need attention, , the point is you are working at a slower pace, have a bit more time for details, with no real production goals, MELISSA, you know this now, but never use a chainsaw to trim your nails, nor a power washer to wash your hands.. Please use the proper tools too do the job you need done, about 30 years ago, I used a pipe wrench in my hand to drive a nail, slipped and smashed my hand, finger has not been right since. lesson learned, glad you recovered, Stay Safe and Carry On.
Just plain ole Rudy. reliable , hard working , no quit in it!
Greetings from central Kansas, enjoy the good weather.
Red Wood for the RK37
