Weird on the FPS difference. I did a velocity test between a KAC 11.5 and LMT 12.5 and was surprised also. With 55 grain m193 the KAC did 2831 and the LMT did 2835. I have a 12.5 hodge barrel to test next.
Can you tell a weight distribution difference between barrels. I have the sol 12.5 but im not a fan of the gov barrel profile. I'm looking to swap out the barrel and was curious if the hodge barrel is not as nose heavy.

@@dannertactical Just my 2 cents, but if someone says the Geissele Super Duty is overgassed or inaccurate compared to an SOLGW, I would question whether or not they've actually shot the Super Duty. Geissele is one of the few brands that's not overgassing their guns. SOLGW uses standard $140 Ballistic Advantage barrels that use mil-spec port sizes (except for the one Sage gun which has a Rosco). Geissele makes their own chrome lined cold hammer forged barrels in house that are every bit as good as Daniel Defense or FN, except they actually keep the gas ports relatively small. While the Wedgelock is one of the most beautiful designs in the industry and very strong, Geissele makes probably the most trusted M-lok handguards in the industry, which is why USASOC used them in the new URG-I uppers and ditched the venerable RIS quad rails. Geissele's barrels are sub-moa, especially with match grade ammo. It's hard to compare almost any gun to a Hodge because they're unicorn guns and they're amazing. At least for a super gucci civilian gun, Hodge and Radian are probably the two best and both will outperform a Geissele or KAC in accuracy and fit and finish, but KAC and Geissele are going to withstand being beat to death over seas in the sand. SOLGW, while nice, is just a gun assembled by SOLGW with some nice parts from around the industry but with a pretty standard good but not great barrel and gassing. Their biggest appeal is their upper/lower and wedgelock rail, all made by Zev (and licensed by Hodge).

Always been fan of 12.5 in general . Both these Rigs are top notch for sure . I dont think you could go wrong with either . What I've seen over the years is it's really tough to notice that much of difference between Carbines that are built correctly. I honestly couldn't tell the diffrence between SR15 11.5 and Centurion 11.5 . Yeah for sure there a diffrence between them but shooter is not gonna notice enough to justify $1k diffrence in price . That's why I tend to favor those mid range in price ARs. If its built right with good parts it will be hard to notice a difference. If I could only have 1 556 is would for sure be Centurion CM4 13.7 Midweight HF.. Nice video bro
While 100% true, you *should* be able to rely on your KAC not experiencing a bolt failure or gas problem over 10K+ rounds. Although I have seen KAC carriers fail.
@@hannibalbarca2939 Yeah LMT ENHANCED Bolt is almost indestructible. I think Crane tested one and gave up after 36k rounds because they couldn't brake the Bolt. KAC E3 Bolt are phenomenal. Sucks they are proprietary to KAC . Would be nice to use that in other rigs . I always try to have the same Barrel and Bolt from the same manufacturer. Only time I dont is if it's TRUE Milspec / TDP Part . Like Colt Bolt with FNMI Barrel or Vice versa . I would also throw in LMT E-Bolt as well because it was designed for SOCOM but was never adopted because it would not work reliably in Rifle Length gas systems . It was designed for Carbine length . I used to own Legacy Model SR15 a long time ago . Probably 13 years ago . It was basically Colt M4 Block 1 with Diemaco / C.C. Barrel . It was super nice Upper. Ultimately I traded it for LMT MRP about 9 years ago .
That barrel life on the FN-made, Hodge-spec barrel is crazy, as is the generic accuracy. When people say they want a chrome lined barrel, I think they assume all chrome-lined barrels will be like that Hodge/FN you have. The experience you've had, always about 100fps faster, suggests some very refined chrome plating process at FN's end -- and maybe, it appears only on the Hodge contract barrels.
Solid video, I am curious though how much of the group issues with the SOLGW were just that gun? Those groups looked about 2x as large as I’ve seen with my SOLGW rifles and PMC at the same distance. But like you said, not going wrong either way.
I wouldn’t call them group issues. The barrel printed 1 inch with MK262 which is nothing to scoff at. The Hodges is a unicorn for printing MOA with Wolf Gold.

Barrels are where the value lie. Hodge probably makes the best. I like his profile. And them being 9310 chf only makes them more baddest. LWRC has always been known for fast barrels. I had a 16" inch upper from Sons one of their older ones. (Sold it to a friend cause he bought a SOLGW complete lower.) I heard they source their barrels from Ballistic Advantage. I sold that upper in favor of Sionics. And have become a fan boy of their stuff over everyone else. Their barrels run fast. Both their chrome lined and QPQ. Like 100-120fps faster than my BCM and Colt barrels. But theirs are all about being concentric. They air gauge. And I like 1/8 twist. I'm hearing their new barrels may all be 5r rifled 1/8 chrome lined. 🤯 I would take the Hodge gun. If you could find one. The pricing Sons has going on isn't on par with what you'd get for $600 more from a Hodge gun. But I'd buy Sionics or BCM before SOLGW as well. BCM with the Mk2 improvements is I believe dollar for dollar the best deal out there.

If you buy a SOLGW M76 or M89 with standard controls, Liberty Fighting trigger, etc (Schmid Tool lower parts). The gun is still more expensive than a BCM with standard controls (Same Schmid Tool lower parts kit.) SOLGW do put together a good gun. Not saying that they don't at all. I just think they are overpriced compared to. BCM is more and more manufacturing their own stuff. All the rails, Mk2 extension kits, Mk2 upper and all the accessories are produced out of Vegas. I'd like to know where SOLGW would be if it wasn't for Jim Hodge and Roger Wang designed stuff.🤷♂️
@@DutchK75 it’s not just about the weight, the Vltor A5 buffer system isn’t even the same buffer tube spring, or weight as a milspec carbine buffer system. And BCMs aren’t shooting 1/2moa with 77gr, the coatings aren’t as nice, BCM isn’t upgrading their springs on their BCGs, BCM doesn’t stake their castle nuts, ..the biggest reason a company moves to manufacturing their own parts isn’t because “no one else can make it as good”, it’s for costs. When you make your own parts, you can do it for a LOT cheaper than having companies like ZEV or Radian do it for you.

“Cheap handguards”, dude have you shot a Sons? Sons is the best rifle at the price they’re asking. Bar none. Their barrels are buy once, cry once. If you shoot it out, they’ll replace it no questions asked. Idk how you could shoot a Sons and walk away thinking it was a subpar product at a “premium” price. Go try to get a Zev, Triarc, or FN for the price of a Sons with a 7075 wedge lock rail.
The fit and finish on my Son's 13.7 is outstanding. Absolutely top notch, rock solid. I'm comparing this to my other BCM and POF which are also very nice rifles but I think the Sons is a little bit nicer.
If you're just a REGULAR shooter then SOLGW is fine for you. Just go shoot and have fun normie! Only those of us who are really good enough to notice the difference need the hodge..... lmao give me a break.
The only real functional difference between the Hodge and the SOLGW are the barrels. The lowers and uppers and rails are literally made by the same company. The Hodge bcg looks to be made by RCA, whole solgw gets stheir from Microbest. The rest just seems to be aesthetic and a roll mark price hike.

Also realize that the sage gun uses a Roscoe barrel instead of Sons usual BA barrel.

My experience has been SOLGW>BCM. BCM is solid but, solgw is a step up.

If you shoot it out, they’ll replace it no questions asked. Idk how you could shoot a Sons and walk away thinking it was a subpar product at a “premium” price. Go try to get a Zev, Triarc, or FN for the price of a Sons with a 7075 wedge lock rail.

The fit and finish on my Son's 13.7 is outstanding. Absolutely top notch, rock solid. I'm comparing this to my other BCM and POF which are also very nice rifles but I think the Sons is a little bit nicer.
Look at the material of the barrels and makeup and yes a cheap ass handguard. Look up some of the customer service complaints!

It really is a great rifle, man.
The only real functional difference between the Hodge and the SOLGW are the barrels. The lowers and uppers and rails are literally made by the same company. The Hodge bcg looks to be made by RCA, whole solgw gets stheir from Microbest. The rest just seems to be aesthetic and a roll mark price hike.
Things being made in the same place don’t make them the same thing.

The hodge wedge is indeed 7075. All other wedges aren't.

Yeah, that's false. Hodge and Old Mega Wedgelock are the only 7075/Titanium barrel nut. The rest are 6061/steel
