I am beyond excited for this! I made my channel in order to share my progress in the Filipino language. I am 50% Pinoy and was born and raised in the US. I grew up speaking English, fell in love with language learning, and decided to learn Tagalog, on my own. I'm looking forward to seeing your progression next week. Good luck, Ryan!
Glad to see you posted the challenge. Indah's followers are psyched, and I know your followers will be excited to see the conversation you have together. I've seen a lot of Filipinos have been asking for you to learn Tagalog, so this is a natural challenge. Good luck. 😃
Eyowww, Ryan! I've been following you for quite some time since I'm an aspiring polyglot someday XD. Well, as a Filipino, I'm impressed how you learn Tagalog quickly, so keep up the progress! And yeah, Tagalog is quite a bit confusing to learn, especially when it comes to grammar just like what you've noted in the last part of the vid. Some fun facts to leave for yah if you don't mind... ✓ You can have a conversation with just the "ba" syllable: - "Bababa ba?" (Going down?) - "Bababa." (Yes, going down.) smthn like that ✓ Tagalog is just one of the 100+ Philippine languages out there, but it's the main basis for Filipino, the official language that's also influenced by lotsa elements of other foreign languages such as Spanish and English (largest influencers I guess), Japanese, Arabic, and Chinese, as well as other Philippine languages. Looking forward to your showdown the following week. Good luck and galingan mo (do your best)! P.S. The woman might have a bit of the upper hand tho, since Tagalog is somehow related with the Indonesian language as well as with Malay and other Austronesian languages, but let's see after a week 💪✨
Ryan is not only person who learns and speaks new languages very fast. He is also very kind. That is what I love about your videos. I would probably even watch his videos without him speaking different languages. Ryan, pls never stop doing this videos. You are one of my favorite youtuber and I am always so excited to watch your new videos. Btw, the challenge with Indah is a great idea. I have a friend from the philippines and I think about studying some Tagalog too :)
Tagalog is very hard for foreigners. If you have basic grasps of English and Spanish, Tagalog maybe somewhat easy since Tagalog is composed of English and Spanish words
For the prize of this challenge: If Indah wins then Ryan has to visit Bali and if Ryan wins then Indah has to visit NYC(Ryan's place) in 2023. I think this will not only be a good prize for them but also for all the viewers!!
i dont know the girl you made the competition with but if shes indonesian like the country thing says then she has an advantage. Indonesian is a related language cause theyre from the same branch of the austronesian languages and they sound very similar, at least to me being a heritage speaker of tagalog. Maybe its the syllabal structure. Also there are some similar words like the word for 5 i think is the same, lima.
I'm a filipino, and yes you're right. A lot of our native words have same words with the indonesian. I talk with the indonesian girl and tried to compare our own native words and I found out that we have a lot same words, so this is a big advantage for Indah. Good luck to you @Ryan, I'm excited for your language battle, i'm also fans of both you. I can wait it.
Great video! The games continue, eh Ryan? I think all your fans are already cheering on IndahxRyan and c'mon, she even said "I thought you were going to ask me out". Good as always, can't wait for the next episode!😁
YAYYY MY FAVOURITE UA-camR UPLOADED 🧸💙 Edit: I tried to learn Mandarin Chinese from Chinese drama I know to say a few words and phrases however I can't read and write in Mandarin. I'm gonna try and do the 2 weeks challenge
I feel like you guys should have done a language that isnt similar to any languages that you already know. Something like a west african language or a south American tribal language.
What?! I can't wait to see the battle! I thought it already happened and I would see it in this video x) Hurry! I want to watch it! :D By the way, keep doing the good work ;)
I'm a secret viewer/subscriber.I accidentally watch your vlog since I notice that it's quite unique, not eating vlogs, travel etc..and since then I watch your vlogs but didn't comment in those vlogs, this is the first time, I am a Filipina and I am so impressed on how you're doing your best to learn our language,I know it's not just for the challenge with Miss Indah 😁.. More blessings to you Ryan.
the greatest love story since when harry met sally, you need to wife Indah up Ryan, you both just have it , serious note i have always struggled to learn one language couldn't imagine knowing 8 or 9. hopefully we'll get some more videos from you both
Goodluck, Ryan! I'm a Filipino and I just wanna tell you that you are a genius. How come that you know so many languages? Btw, it gives me goosebumps hearing you speak our language. It's so cooooolll. Keep vlogging bro and I hope you will be fluent in speaking Tagalog!
😁OMG! This challenge will be awesome. Just watching this vid and how Idol's calling others Idol's for help is intense. I have butterflies in my stomach just watching this vid. OMG get wait to see results.
Tagalog is seriously complicated to learn. Many foreigners learn the best way through talking to people a lot and learning and living the culture here. Fun fact, as a Filipino, sometimes It's hard for me to understand literatures written in my own language "tagalog" it's because tagalog has old deep terms that not easy to understand unless you check dictionary for it.
I’ve been learning Korean recently, and although I’m just beginning, I can already see the issues with conveying the correct sounds in English. I just wanted to know if you’ve ever posted a video on your learning journey, with the schools you’ve attended and how it all happened. I’d love to go to Korea and study, but I’m 30 and have a mortgage. Were you studying these languages in the States and was it all through the college ? Or was this all off of your own back?
Indonesian and Tagalog are almost the same tbh, It's like Russian and Poland, I can say this because I'm Indonesian, some words are exactly the same, if indah speaking East Java maybe it will be easier for her to learn Tagalog, but she's from bali who has their own language, but let's see
You did know Indonesian and Tagalog are related? I have only watched the beginning of the video, but I would guess Indah will have the upper hand since she has the structure in her native language. (And finally a language I know myself! Thank you!)
Kumusta ka Ryan? Suwertehin ka sana 😊 I've been trying to learn Tagalogh for over 14 months now and although I understand a lot of words, trying to string a conversation together apart from the basic greetings etc is still beyond me. You'd think having a Filipina girlfriend would help but arggg!!!! I'll get there eventually though....
Kompetisi yang keren sekali ... Membangun dan menginspirasi buat belajar ... Mantap Jiwa bang Ryan ☺️ Noted: berharap ka Indah yang menang seh, biar Bang Ryan datang ke Bali buat ketemu sama Ka Indah 😂
I am from the Philippines I know tagalog and other Philippines dialect. I know English and Spanish still studying it. I hope you succeed learning tagalog and other Philippines dialect
Babe, Ryan posted! Seriously though, I love your content man. Really smart concept for a video too, it gives us a nice perspective about your studying, and I wish you the best with your Tagalog! I'm learning Japanese to talk better with my girlfriend and you're a great inspiration to me and the rest of the world for learning and appreciating cultures through languages. I'm going to try to study more and be like you 1 day hopefully. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving btw!
I checked for several minutes and all I could find was a video of him using his newly discovered skill, but nothing from her. Nothing about him from her, nothing about tegalog from her. It's almost like she ghost him.
Pronunciation of NG and NGA is big challenge. Plus we have lots of duplication/reduplication of words and suffix, prefixes, all the fixes. It won't be easy.
maybe not a challenge to Ryan but I would like to see him speaking Thai/Polish one day; Ryan knowing Mandarin, wouldn't be too hard to learn Thai since Thai has tones too Knowing Russian learning Polish wouldn't be too hard since it's similar
Filipino humor is top tier 😂😂😂😂 Hope you’ll learn our language so I could make a Filipino joke to u HAHAHAHAHAH It’s more fun in the Philippines that’s for sure! Good luck on your tagalog journey 🫰🏻
Kinda shady cause Ryan seems already prepared and take early start since he's the one deciding the language without having game to pick the language randomly. But tagalog sounds like Javanese ngapak accent, even though Indah is Balinese but she definitely will nailed the pronunciation. She just needs to learn the vocabulary.
Ryan, question! I know that this video is about Tagalog but I was wondering how you got over the slang hurdle of bahasa indonesia? Or did you just learn the standard and the natives just adjusted?
It was great talking to you Ryan! Good luck with the challenge! Kaya mo yan! 💪
Ryan you gotta go visit Indah one day, all of us need this 😁
They’re gonna be married one day

We need 6 seasons and a movie of this!!

That's interesting, in Te Reo Māori (New Zealand) 5 is rima, so maybe those languages are distant relatives too! Or maybe it's just a coincidence
