No need for apologizes, good video. For all the guys throwing rocks at the other shop, they may not have any diagnosis techs, maybe it's a tire place ect. I've learned in 40yrs that for every 1 tech like Eric that really understands electronics, there's 50 guys who can do good brake jobs. It's why he stands out in the crowd and we all watch.

Better than the class. Class mostly taught theory which is pretty much the same thing. This actually has a professional doing the mechanical part so you can watch how to do it and what tools work. Something school doesn't have enough time for sometimes.
I'd say taking class and watching these videos afterwards really helps with learning

What a difference between the two shops, one starts replacing components until they give up,
the other actually uses the right tools (and more than a little smarts) and has the fault identified
in an hour. If I was a local I know which shop I would use.

What do you bring?? You call Sonny's Towing and have the truck towed to your shop. This way you're Happy and your brother is happy. This could have been a video that start off with Sonny's towing and the Part II would end up at SMA.
Ivan should enjoy this video, working without a lift. My guess if that they crossed the wiring for plugs 6 and 8 which is causing the misfire.

Nice! Great diagnosis. Probably went through a whole can of liquid electrical tape lol. New parts installed are faulty! You never see that (kidding). Great video in the "field".

Come on Eric! Can't you work out in the field, while trying to fiddle under the hood of a box truck, set up a camera, set up the Vantage, _AND_ keep your arms out of the shots? Jeez, where is Scotty when you need him?

Your video action has been impressive this week. A new Cam sensor and it doesn't work...crazy. I've seen Keith's van, he does have everything! Nice work in less than perfect conditions. I followed along better on this one because I had a similar issue with the 98 so I've been down this road before. Thanks Eric.

Long time, first time. So, gotta say.. Love your vids. The analytical part of how you think through the problem really is what appeals to me. I tend to watch the electrical problems, because.. I'm an electronics guy. So, I like seeing your thought process vs what I'm thinking when I see the schematics on screen. We tend to wind up at the same place thinking-wise on those, but take different routes to get there. It's about 50/50 on whose method would have been quicker, but I've seen some where I'd have been burned by skipping to a different place than you went..
As a Colorado owner, your case study on the P0014(?) was both intriguing and terrifying.
Had a fun foray into the automotive world today. Get a call from a friend wanting me to help track down a parasitic draw on a 98 Lumina. Those are always fun. He had installed a kill switch on the battery, which actually made things easier. Circuit open, circuit closed.. Pull out my handy Fluke and measure current draw.. Nothing.. Huh.. We've got the door open and i'm completing the circuit with the meter and.. No interior lights. Pop the meter open.. Both Ammeter fuses are blown.. Nice the meter still measures continuity to check its' own fuses (This is why you never lend tools to people who don't know what they're doing). Go to the backup meter.. We see a 2.5A draw.. Well.. That isn't right.. Oh, hey.. We've still got the door open.. Close the doors.. 500mA draw.. That's still high.. I go with the obvious.. Pull cigarette lighter fuse, it's blown.. Well, that isn't it. Pull all the fuses for lighting.. None of those. Start going through in order.. Pull the door lock fuse.. There's noise of a release and draw goes to nothing. Ah-ha.. I say, it's in the door locks.. He says "Well, you know.." and points me to the drivers side door, which has a completely broken power door lock switch.. you push it to lock, it stays stuck pushed to lock, causing power to constantly go.. You push it to unlock, it's constantly applying power to unlock.. "Well THERE'S your problem, would have saved us 30 minutes if you had just mentioned that from the start".. Took the switch from drivers side door, put it in the passenger, left the wiring disconnected, took the good one from passenger side, put it in drivers side. Problem solved. You just can't lock the doors from the passenger door.
Right about then is when I notice.. Hey.. Where's your serpentine belt? "Oh, it broke on the way home yesterday, we need to replace that, too".. I didn't sign up for this crap. Oh, fine.. But.. wait.. "On the way home"? Exactly how far did you go? "A couple miles"... Hmm.. Did it overheat? "Oh yeah, it was pegged".. Palm to face for the second time today. By some miracle.. Remember, this is a 98 Lumina. The 3100. While heat doesn't generally take out an intake.. You look funny at the intake on this thing and it breaks.(I exaggerate, but..) We get a replacement belt on.. I figure this isn't going to end well.. It runs.. Let it run.. Hook my crappy little data reader up to it... Engine temp goes to 200 and drops once the thermostat opens.. This is like the 5th time he's overheated this car severely with, seemingly, no lasting damage. I really wish I had taken a vid of this repair.. It would have been JUST like one of yours. But with far, far more swearing.
Of course, after we get all this put together.. He shows me his truck (05 Explorer SportTrac) with the dash showing he's doing 85 while stopped, no tach, no fuel gauge.. "Bad Cluster, I can't reprogram that, bye" and ran as fast as I could before I got roped into some other project.

Enjoyed the vid as always - good stuff! :)

Question: Would the Versus have been a better choice to take, as its two machines in one, a bit more compact and has the ability to have wiring diagrams (using browser to look at iatn or any other data program)? I ask because I am looking to buy one machine and see the Versus as not the best but does everything well enough in a compact unit. I have learned more from watching you than classes I've attended, thank you for your continuous effort in presenting new material and showing us your techniques.

Thanks for these videos my man .. they have really been helping me out .. I started out rebuilding engines when I was about 19 .. .. just nuts and bolts stuff .. fast forward 20 years .. I've been at a big shop now three years now and I went from being a mechanic to just a parts installer .. yup .. the owners brother does all the diagnosis and we do all the" parts changing" .. electrical diagnosis was never my strong point .. always engine and transmission stuff .. but I'm 38 and figure I have about a good 10 years left of being able to do all the"heavy work" .. then what ?? .. So I've decided I really need to get back into diagnostics because I won't be able to change motors forever and you and.. scanner danner have really helped me getting a grasp back on this side of things .. so hopefully I can either start using all of my capabilities here or move on to another shop .. But either way thanks for the videos.. I really do appreciate them .. Salute

Really liked the fieldwork =) Got a little nervous and worried when you said you my not have had the battery in the camera. That made me also wonder why you don't have a car charger to plug in since you do all the filming in and around cars. However really nice video! I like the wireproblem diagnostics, it's not always easy but you really make it look easy! Often the hardest part may be starting direction.
