Not sure you can ever determine who the best travel team in any age group is when on any given weekend it can be a different mix of kids. Further, it is always interesting when your bigger orgs can carry a big squad and call in arms whenever necessary.
Definitely annoying. I used to tell them if the batter hits my glove, no inference call should be called since he’s pushing me forward… It worked 100% of the time.
Reason they do it cause let’s say there is a ball in the dirt or something that gets away from them, they rest their hand on the back to feel which way the catcher is gonna move so the umpire can get out of the way the best he can. I umpire and get asked that all the time. I always check with the catcher and they don’t have an issue with it. Another reason I do it, if the catcher gets clocked with a foul ball, I’ll try and grab him from going down or anything like that. I’m looking out for them. Umpire and catcher relationship is most important.
