- This is a long video guys, so buckle up and stay hydrated if you’re planning on watching the whole thing! If I could sum up my relationship with NJ music wise it would be “their songs don’t hit, they stick” nsnsnsn. I’m really happy to have found that description because I think it truly explains what I think of their music. On a first listen, their songs are not typically sweeping me off my feet and I am more invested and interested in the MV and their story line than the songs themselves but once I really sit down and allow myself to just listen to them, that’s when I get to really start enjoying them more and once they’ve found a place in my brain, they’re not moving, they’re staying and they’re staying for good you know! They really have found their signature sound and that formula to make catchy, viral songs and ‘Super shy’ is the perfect example of this! And surprisingly, even though, ETA is their comeback title track, I’m not as sold as I was for the rest of the songs I’ve heard before. I don’t know what it is but I think the instrumental, most specifically the trumpet or whatever is is, kinda took me out and somehow I was hyper focused on that sound instead of the overall melody and their voices. So I’m curious to see how it’s going to grow on me in the future or if it’s even going to grow on me at all. I’m also curious to see how they’re going to grow and expand music wise in the future because so far, a lot of their songs sound really similar (at least the melody and the rhythm?) and while it is constituting their identity, I wonder how much more they can evolve with it to keep people surprised and interested!
Also, I’m currently feeling really really robbed that ‘Get up’ is not a full entire song?! What do you mean?! That snippet was a masterpiece in itself but what do you mean it’s not a full song?! I’m feeling robbed Im telling you!

However, it would be silly to say it's just in reference to estimated time of arrival when those specific names of people associated with the terror group and events were used for promotional material of the track. It's a marketing tactic to get people talking. You could've picked any three names for characters but you went with those? Not one, not two, but all three being a match to people involved with ETA's history. Don't be naïve.

ETA was already an acronym for estimated time of arrival way before newjeans released their song, they didn't choose to create the letters, they used the acronym for a line in their song and I genuinely don't see the wrong in that. What names btw? i wanna check it out.
ETA is also the name of a Basque terrorist group that emerged in Spain in 1959. It was an ideological alternative that sought the independence of the Basque Country from Spain, and its last attack was in 2009.
ETA was also the name of the song, so the names they chose are not a coincidence. Mikel was one of the leaders of the group, María his girlfriend, and Eva one of the many victims.
ETA was responsible for the deaths of 853 people, including 22 children. They carried out a total of 3,500 attacks, and when considering the injured, the number of victims reached 7,000.
Some of the attacks carried out by ETA were: On June 19, 1987, a car bomb exploded in the parking lot of a shopping center in Barcelona, resulting in 21 deaths and 45 injuries. ETA has always stood for "estimated time of arrival" for most people who have heard of the acronym. Anyone drawing lines from this to some terrorist organization have never had New Jeans' best interests in mind. In fact, they're the ones bringing more attention to said terrorist organization by making a big deal out of the acronym.
I work in field services, and I am not going to surrender three letters that I and hundreds of thousands of people across North America use literally every day because some terrorist organization wants to claim it for themselves. The moment that happens they win.

@@SakaiSteven Really dunno what to do about that tbh, ETA is the hook of the video(Also fits the theme), Eva is already proved to be the girl being cheated on currently, Google search is normally country based so currently in South Korea it does not appear as a terrorist group rather estimated time of arrival from dictionaries. I really don't know what to expect the girl to drive, like the car fits so well with the theme along with her speeding on the road getting caught by the police and hitting her boyfriend with.

I'm from Spain, to us, if we read the title in our own language it sparks that meaning just cos it's drilled into our brains that way but please, people need to use their critical thinking a little bit and give thoughts a second revisit instead of spilling drama and nonsense on the internet.
It's just so dumb and stupid to make an assumption because of an acronym that in your own language and home country means something particular and tragic, plus the scene in the car it's just another random car drive imaginary as we've seen in media since cars were invented.
And all the "arguments" I've read saying: "I'm Spaniard I am allowed to be offended" Shut the f*ck up you are embarrassing me, to those people I have something to say: YOU CAN BE TRIGGERED I UNDERSTAND, BUT JUST COS YOU ARE TRIGGERED YOUR ARE NOT OFFENDED BY DEFAULT! All i'm going to say is the ETA backlash they got after the teaser was MOSTLY performative. Like I swear so many people on twitter are trying to find anything, any little crumb to cancel the girls. The way they tried to do it after cool with you mv's got released was so ridiculous... and they can't say they are doing it for the girls own good cuz they are 'minors'.. we know damn well they won't stop till they see them disband.

The painting's called "L'Amour et Psyché" by François-Édouard Picot.
The symbolism is pretty cool in certain scenes:
- Eros (or Cupid) getting naked, she discards her clothes as she abandons her godly/angelic nature to appear to Psyche's eyes
- Aphrodite erases Psyche's memories of Eros at a pedestrian crossing, when Eros tries to get to her lover, she literally crosses from the human's world to her former one.
Get Up is not actually a snippet as it is an interlude, which is common in r&b genre (e.g. Victoria Monet's We Might Even Be Falling In Love)
Moreover, Hanni said in an interview, Get Up is a snippet for what type of music they would release in their future album or ep :--).

i feel like newjeans still has a different sound with every comeback, you can feel the newjeans input but still is refreshing everytime!! personally, i usually get bored with kpop groups because after 3 comebacks they always go sideways they either try to be so different every comeback that they lose their identity or they over use the formula that works for them or they either try to make what's trendy so i tend to lose interest but i feel like ador found a balance in all of that!! they really impress me every time newjeans really have me on a chokehold with their sound and concepts, the quality is really there
NewJeans knows precisely what they're doing. "Get Up" could have easily been an entire B-side and likely B-side of the year, but all they gave us was an interlude. 36 perfect seconds. How can anyone not want more? I'm already waiting for their next EP or, if my prayers are answered, an LP. They're awesome.

But yeah, your take on the Cool With You was close. She was a cupid but fell in love with a mortal. Tony is another cupid sent to set things back to normal because she 'disrupted' the order. I think New Jeans were the angels that could restore her powers, but she chose to walk away in the end.

Apparently Get Up is a snippet of what Newjeans' sound is going to be in their future comeback. So it's honestly a genius move by the company to showcase their r&b vocal beforehand since choosing r&b as title song in kpop is a pretty risky move lol But it got the people wanting more, and with this much hype and love for a 30sec song from the listeners, there's no way hybe isn't going to release more of that.

One cool trivia about Tony in Cool with You is that he didnt accept any payment in his special appearance, which is so cool from him

I take that as a metaphor - a new mindset, a new look, a healthy body, new friends. A song of self-actualisation and empowerment.
The girl is HOYEON, from the squid game series. The story is based on the mythological story of Cupid and psyche. Hoyeon is Cupid and she can make people fall in love but can’t fall in love herself as people can’t see her. New jeans are her guardian angels.. cupids job is making ppl around her fall in love but she comes across psyche and falls for him. forbidden love basically. the scene when she shreds her clothes is basically her shredding the cupid title and becoming human so she can be with him . However VENUS, (Tony Leung) finds out and turns her back into cupid making her partner forget about her and not being able to see her. to punish her for falling for a human he basically makes psyche fall for a different human girl. in the original story cupid is a guy and psyche is a girl but they switched the roles for this. ppl are also speculating that new jeans play the muses in greek mythology who tell the stories. i personally think new jeans are the ones that snitched on her to venus cuz they’re the only ones that are constantly watching her throughout the videos . ❤👏👏
There is absolutely 0% chance that Ador purposefully associated ETA with a separatist group rather than as the extremely well known and well understood acronym meaning Estimated Time of Arrival. To think otherwise is simply delusional. I’ve seen the “evidence” and coincidences that people used to try to say otherwise, but it’s the most baffling grasping at straws I’ve ever seen. As you know, the Korean K-pop idol part has a strong hip-hop foundation. It's already been 30 years since Seo Taiji and Boys were established... New Jeans sounds new, I think, because it's grafted onto the vintage sound of a European garage. Would that be around the 90's? I think they created something unique. From the point of view of Koreans, it is a very fresh sound. The music video approach is also a bit different.

The music video revolves around the tale of Cupid and Psyche, which is depicted in the painting L'Amour et Psyché (1817) by François-Édouard Picot. Both the side A and side B videos were directed by Shin Wooseok and shot in Barcelona, Spain.
Girl, you got it! The painting is "Eros (Cupid) and Psyche", and like in the myth Hoyeon is Cupid (working for Aphrodite) making people fall in love in the beginning of the video, until she herself fells in love with Psyche who can't see her at first, so she renowns her powers (standing naked in the rain) so she can be seen by Psyche and love each other. Until in the end, Toni Leung (Aphrodite/Venus) punishes Cupid for abandoning her duties by giving her back her powers, making her once again invisible to Psyche who forgets all about her and falls in love with the girl walking behind Hoyeon.
ETA speaks volumes on society right now. I guess Porsche should change the name of one of their most iconic cars... ETA is their best song so far i think.

The ETA situation is something I’m not really familiar with. But I saw a Spanish person on twitter explaining that there’s no correlation. This was when the teaser was released. I really don’t know, I’m Brazilian but I do understand why people would be feeling offended

Also just wanted to point out the song ETA isnt the main tittle track of the album,the main song is ASAP.I recommend you watch the video which came out a week after the actual album release (is a little strange but whatever thats new jeans).

Their songs are all super catchy, the quality and storytelling in their videos is outstanding, all the members are adorable, and they do a ton of fan interaction. The more you watch them just hanging out with each other, the more you find that they each have distinctive personalities, and are all funny, sweet, charming, and really are having the time of their lives. Like a group of best friends who do cute, fun stuff together, and also happen to be crazy talented idols.
I never listened to K pop before, but now I'm pretty much obsessed with them, and I'm with you in the ETA is my least favorite song. I don't dislike it, I'd say it's like my least favorite flavor of popsicle. Still pretty awesome, but there are others I like better.
