Thank you for sharing this beautiful church. One of the first settlers in Cataloochee was Young Bennett. He was my great, great grandfather. I have pictures of my grandfather (Dr. J.G. Bennett) as a young boy along with his siblings at the little school. Very special to me and my family. Let's keep this preserved so that others can imagine and enjoy the beauty of the western NC mountains and its people! God bless you !!

Thank you for watching, and so neat that you have ties to the original settlers of the valley. We know a few descendants here in the Maggie area, that have family from there as well. We definitely want to see it preserved, as the Valley is a true gem on the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

We are camping in Cataloochee in 2 weeks. We plan on doing this hike. It's the only church in the park we have not been to. Thanks for sharing your video. I read your article about the history. I was thinking that so many families fought the sale of their land to form the park and I am sure it was devastating to loose your home and land that you worked so hard to build. And I'm sure that they didn't get what they deserved for the property. But, now, years later, some of their stories live on and are preserved for future generations to be proud of. It's a good legacy for those who were forced out. I am thankful we have this park and it's history that is shared. God Bless.

Thanks for watching, and we hope you enjoy the hike! The church is just gorgeous! Like you, we love the park, and are so thankful for those that sacrificed their land for it.

I'm glad the bell pull was not dry rotted

It has been in the past. The rope was gone the last time we were there. I did some reading before we went to make sure it was okay to ring the bell.

Thank you for bringing me here! I did the research and wanted to visit last month while in Cataloochee but it sounded a bit strenuous for the time! I will return and do the hike. Have you hiked the complete 5.1 mile hike?

No we haven’t, but would like to. We hiked in from Mt. Sterling Road, which is a little easier than coming in from Big a Cataloochee.
