- Norma Jean Wright was born July 15, 1956 in Ripley, Tennessee and moved to Elyria, Ohio when she was a child.
Her first gig was lead vocals for the Topettes and toured with The Spinners as a background singer. She was recruited to work with Chic as lead vocalist for the first album with the singles "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" (#6 Pop, #6 R&B in January 1978) and "Everybody Dance" (#38 Pop, #12 R&B in April 1978).
She got her first R&B hit with "Saturday" a #15 R&B hit produced by Chic. Her last charting was for "High Society" a #19 R&B hit. Wright has sung as a backing vocalist with C+C Music Factory, Constina, Randy Crawford, Will Downing, Aretha Franklin, Fantasy, Debbie Gibson, Nelson Rangell, Luther Vandross, Madonna, Sister Sledge, Nick Scotti & Freddie Jackson.
She frequently appears in a duo with Luci Martin, another former Chic vocalist. In 2018, Wright joined and toured with the female group First Ladies of Disco. In March 2019, Wright released the single "Don't Stop Me Now" with the group.
This is one of the most glamorous songs of the disco era! Norma Jean's lead vocals, accompanied with the Chic Organization's orchestration and lyrics is a sublime confection for the soul!

The most amazing thing about disco is that creativity and talent are very excellent to make a song like this that lasts over 9 minutes long as an extended version. Electronic music today doesn't require that kind of effort. Just think of all the effort put in to make a beautiful song like this, as well as that disco uses real instruments. Today's dance music is so phony, fake and artificial in comparison to disco. And you know what? It was a lot easier back then to meet, pick up and date girls.

Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards were the John Lennon and Paul McCartney of the 80's. This was one of my favorite jams I enjoyed listening to. Thank you for the excellent remix of this classic song.

....Oh, my GOD....My Step-Father bought this 12", (Sept., 1979?), and I was TRANSFIXED! ...this was around the time when the "Disco Sucks" boom happened, and you can FEEL in the air, that a 'change' was coming, musically...this tune personified that, for me....An elegant Song....
Her beautiful voice is easily to recognize in CHIC's early two singles.

Holly shit I haven't heard this since I was a kid! I had made my own extended version for this back in my young days. It's a wonder I don't hear this much in old-school sets.
Unfortunately this one got a bit repetitious and to the point it was obvious but the actual extended version did this to some extent. The song does not have a bridge which would have helped it not sound as repetitive. This does remind me of older Disco mixes that tended to be half vocal and half instrumental, however. The one song that comes to mind is "Get Down Tonight" with the brass instrumental section making up the latter half of the extended version. It was still a nice surprise to hear this after nearly forgetting about it.

This song proves disco did not die on July 12, 1979, with that disco demolition in Chicago. It was released in December 1979, disco really died in 1981. Disco songs in 1980, were,"Upside down",by Diana Ross, "Funky town", by Lipps, "Celebration", bu Kool and the Gang and," I am coming out", by Diana Ross and many others. Maybe in Chicago it did, but in Philadelphia and New York it really died in 1981

I remember listening to the original sometime in the late 2000s, and the way this song is made sounds very similar to many songs that have used this type of funk bassline undertone. Man what a flashback this song is, haven't heard of this in nearly a decade or so, until now. Thanks for making this extended version of this song.

If you could, make a really long version of Sly and the Family Stone's 'Dance to the Music'? If you already have, I cannot find it in a search. To me it's the song that really launched disco, with a driving beat, singing over the top, and it's just plain fantastic. Sadly, the long version that they released doesn't do it justice..... but I think you could.
Dont forget "Tighten Up" with Archie Bell and "25 Miles" with Edwin Starr.
Even tho these last 2 were
