The first day you walked into that hallway I was overwhelmed with how much work was ahead of you. Where on earth to start? Then I remembered the old joke "How do you eat an Elephant? One bite at a time." You are sure turning that Elephant into a magnificant Swan (although I think Elephants are lovely too).🎉

I just love how the floors were done back then. It gives so much style to the floors with the different directions and the woods goes. The color of the wood of the floor is awesome. I just love it so much.

Coming right along! Exciting stuff. I saw the old grandfather clock in the shop and thought how perfect one would go in that area by the stairs Carol was painting blue. ❤ Looking forward to the floor being finished, as are you I bet!

CAROKE IS DOING A GREAT JOB PAINTING AND COORDINATING HER WORK. ADRIAN ALSO.. IT WAS NICE TO SEE THEY WENT TO A FEW JUNK PLACES. TO HUNT FOR THE BIG CHANDALIER THAT IS STILL ILLUSIVE. BUT I KNOW THEY WILL FIND THE ONE SOON. CAROLES💞 PARENTS COMING AGAIN, SO NICE TO GIVE THEM LITTLE JOBS AND A BREAK FROM HOME. THEY R VERY USEFUL AND REALLY SEEM TO ENJOY THE CHATEAU AND AREA😍

The stair window would look gorgeous with lead lighting colored glass, it would send colours all over the walls in the stairs
Carole could find a free-hanging stained glass work that could hang way at the top of the window so the view of the grounds isn't obscured below ...like a purple and turquoise peacock (I have one that hangs in the middle of a picture window high so I can still see out) ...also the lighting to read would still be unobstructed below. Another possibility would be to find a dragon or unicorn motif that would add a touch of England ...or roses.

I love it when you two go shopping, so many beautiful things. Those wardrobes were beautiful, my advice it if your carring something heavy upstairs is to take it apart for something more manageable and to have lots of willing help.
That chandelier that was not big enough did have nice detail, that might be interesting in a bathroom. Have you ever been on Pinterest ? Someone did a venician glass chandelier and this floral feminine wallpaper, was absolutely beautiful.
No one could ever make me like that mustard yellow and red monstrosities. What were they thinking ?

Looking great! So much has been done. The floor is nicely done at the entrance with the pattern. How about a radiator cabinet cover for the radiator in the window? I hope you find some light without crystals for the staircase for a more casual but sophisticated look and also so you don’t curse trying to clean crystals from the stairs hanging over the railing!!😮 😅
Totally forgot the pain of cleaning Crystal chandeliers hung at normal heights...OMG for over a multi level staircase. Maybe Adrian could install in a way to lower for future cleaning.
Perhaps Adrian should make a chandelier from the two you have upstairs

It would show better if the base wall was painted a light color, not the stairs, just the side of the stairs, making the design of each rod stand out. What do u think? I almost don’t dare ask this, but do you think there’s a chance you might wind up having to go to a lighting shop to order a new chandelier for the space? You do have some pretty specific requirements to meet.

Hi and as always a good job both. It’s so much work, and well on the way. But seeing you on the top floor the other day makes one realise the scale of the job. What’s the plan long term? Hotel, exclusive BB perhaps. Even when finished houses this size need a money pile and staff to keep up together and the like as back in the day.

Carol, you always use the small paint roller even for bigger surfaces. Usually you get stripes from it or shadows on the wall? You don't? I tend to like the idea of the small one, cos the big one takes hours to clean and you lose so much color... 😵💫

That cupboard under the stairs was where firewood was kept (hence the dents inside) for the fire box positioned in the middle of the space Carole is painting. The damage to the wall was caused by the heat. There are pipe brackets up the stairs where the stove flue went up the stairway. This little corner was where the servants would sneak for some quiet reading time to sit in the warm! It is a lovely corner of the house so a soft comfortable chair would be good there.
Don't give up I've got full faith in you both 🎉.
This end of the hall is DRAMATICALLY better already! Look forward to seeing the final work.

This most impressive part of this wonderful project, well HOME making really, is that you never seem to look at the total work that will be required for a complete restoration but just concentrate on one area at a time until it's done. "The longest journey begins with a single step."
But it's very easy to get discouraged by the scope of the work required. You guys never fall into that morass. You just keep plugging away and then 'magically' another room or floor or wall is brought back to life.
I really like your home. It's beautiful now and when one day it's all been re-done, it will be more than stunning. And of course having 'taste' makes a huge difference as well. Money is required but taste is far more important.

Adrian-I’m a bit surprised you don’t put anything between the OSB and the hardwood. I’d have thought at least Aquabar between for added protection. I’m always suspicious of OSB
