It’s also safe to say some of the 80’s guitarists sound the same as the other few famous 80’s guitarists. The bends and traditional tapping. The chorus as a staple effects (Ewwww…). There's loads of videos where guitarists get hastled for being fake, even when proven wronge... people are either jeliouse they can't play that well... or their completely ignorant to the idea that it is possible.
Brother... no need to defend yourself. That is incredible real-time guitar shredding! People think its fake cause their skill is limited by their imagination. They can't believe anyone can play like you cause they probably can't or can't imagine it. I've been playing 40 years plus, and you're the real deal. Your skill is amazing. Your generations level of playing is insane! Keep up the great music and guitar playing. Aloha!
Okay, I'm not a guitarist, but as crazy as it was to see that the first time, it still made sense to me without explanation. My first thought was basically, playing a pick with one beat and taps for the other. Maybe it was easy for me to understand because I play drums and there are several techniques that require you to do one thing with one hand and another tech with the other. You're taking advantage of using less energy by alternating the tap and pick in a perfect sync (over simplified I know). Haters gonna hate. What you have is mad talent. Keep up the good work!
I too have been playing over 20 years. I had never seen that selective picking technique before but never thought it was fake or sped up. I really like your content and playing. I share it with all my guitar buddies. Keep rocking!
Found you on IG and I left a comment about how it looked sped up. I was corrected by your fan base and I explored your music and you've gained a new follow. You're talented but also a great writer. Anyone can play fast but you do it when it's need and add a lot of melody to your playing.
I've been following this guy past past 7-8 years, syncatto days. I've seen him develop new ideas/skills on social media over time, and i know he does it because I've seen the incremental progress over the years. For someone who sees it for the first time today, has not seen his skill evolution over time, might naturally think it's unreal. Its pretty much a compliment when someone doesn't believe how crazy you play, Keep up Charlie, love from India
I have seen Charlie live, indeed I went to see him live as I have a number of albums that plays. He does have a unique approach to the guitar, particularly moving rapidly up and down the neck. I can confirm this guy is the real deal. Check out his albums and support his work.
I cannot believe people thought this was fake. I've been playing for about 12 years now, and I instantly knew you were palm muting, alternate picking with hammer ons, solid stuff brother!
I've never seen any of your vids until this one but as a guitarist watching you bust out that solo I believe you can play anything. If you want to shut up the skeptics just have a running clock behind you counting the seconds when you do it. You're amazing!!
Discovered you for the first time on bernth's channel. I didn't think for one second it was fake or sped up. I was just so amazed!! I didn't know someone could play so skillfully like that. Love your music!

That's sublime playing and that's a fact Not sped up It's just a rare talent that always will attract hate But I'm glad you are taking the positivity of the attention in that, good or even bad, it leads to exposure and more reach and sales Keep it up
This is what happens when people are bitter and jealous, they immediately gravitate towards something being “impossible” to play or “fake”. These same people will drool over polyphia and not make a single peep because collectively everyone knows they are legitimately playing. Give it a few months and the people that are saying it’s fake will realize just how brilliant you are. I’ve been playing for 25 years and I can appreciate what hard work and dedication looks like, keep up the amazing work!
This is true however in some cases there is justification in it, because it does happen, however this looks 100%natural, you can tell the videos that are heavily edited or sped up, but even then leaving nasty comments probably isn't the way forward
it's not jealousy. I know because I've probably been called "FAKE" more than any other guitarist ever (cuz i specialize in making my guitars NOT SOUND LIKE GUITARS) (cuz I like to blow minds, including my own)......and no one ever criticized me as FAKE out of jealousy. It was just that what I was doing was ABOVE their mental "pay grade". Same with new techniques. (Everyone thought TAPPING was fake at first, cuz they'd never heard or seen a guitar do that before. Was never jealousy.)
it's like someone writes under a video that they've met this c-level tv actor (say, while bartending or whatever), and everybody writes "impossible", "fake story" etc, as if they mentioned the most extreme thing and as if those actors are never seen by mere mortals
10's of thousands of hours grinding skills equates to being extremely talented. People need to get over themselves. You're incredible man. Thank you for your music :)
selective picking isn't even that hard, these people are actually just stupid if you can pick with your right hand and hammer from nowhere with your left hand, you can piece together selective picking
I wonder if we should be giving Nuno credit for the selective picking. He's been doing that idea of hammer-on with muted palm combined with picking notes for a long time with a similar result. Back in the day it sounded like magic! Obviously Abasi took it to the next level together with all new generation of players.
I saw a post on Instagram the other day that read: "There is freedom in letting people be wrong about us", and it was a great reminder for me. Your music and guitar playing and unique style is unparalleled. Don't worry about the haters. God bless brutha B)

To anyone who reads this. Charlie is one of the most gifted virtuoso guitarists on the planet... period. I've been watching him for almost 10 years. There is nothing shady about him; except for that deal with the devil at the crossroads.
I've been playing 17 years and it's all real. The effect is called delay and it's very mild. Barely noticeable. Anyone who plays polyphia, AAL or Tosin Abasi is aware of selective picking. Great song guys.
It's because most guitarists are learning on old 80a and 90a classics or grunge. Tobias, Tim, and others in progressive and djent genre are completely pushing the envelope in new techniques and styles of very beautiful technically difficult
It’s a new technique . You either like it or not kinda like when Zeppelin or Van Halen were new. I’ve played guitar for 53 years, I don’t like it, but can respect it!

Been playing decades (yeah… #olddude) and while I get people struggling with the “too cool to be real” thing, when you broke it down it totally makes sense and I was able to (slowly) replicate it. Great sound, song, and thanks for introducing me to some seriously exciting new techniques that breathe new life into things. You have a new fan.
There are similar techniques in flamenco, the alzapua combined with hammer ons and pull offs creates a similar effect, we do this with a plucking thumb up and down only on the right hand. Yes, of course you are doing this, no tricks, just a combo of right and left hands. Yes you are very controlled. Excellent playing. God bless you. This stuff is not easy but it can be done.
First time seeing this technique but after you explained the left/right hand I could see what was going on. Definitely going to try and implement it, but I don’t think I’ll be coming for your job any time soon.
Suuuuure.... because somebody would bother going through the trouble of editing the 💩 out of a solo clip, to make their hands look slower than what they should 🤦♂️ The people who say it's fake apparently think it's worth your time to waste it on even more editing for absolutely no reason. Keep up the flow! Thanks for the content!
That's a neat trick and I'm totally gonna steal it. I remember listening to a radio broadcast years ago where the host was adamant that Thunderstruck couldn't have been played live because he didn't know that hammer-ons and pull-offs are a thing.
You have a well tuned gift. I bet you play a lot of guitar but you were also born with a gift. Those skills are outstanding! Keep up the great performances!

Charlie, I don't remember the magazine or the song yet I vividly recall a transcription of a Satriani track appearing somewhere in which the transcriber noted that (in a specific section) Joe's line was actually two different guitars. @@supernumberguy6804 There are dozens of them who have their own sound if you don’t stick to the same guitarists you follow. The 80’s pushed the boundaries like this generation did. That it is why it is amazing to see them do it. I’m 100% sure we see more different techniques developed and different sound. The technique itself presents a unique sound.
It’s also safe to say some of the 80’s guitarists sound the same as the other few famous 80’s guitarists. The bends and traditional tapping. The chorus as a staple effects (Ewwww…). I actually grew up bowing to these 80’s guitar gods. That is why I am so impressed that this generation is producing a lot of crazy techniques and complexity in their guitar playing, making it completely different from the 80’s greats.
As a person who listens to Animals as leaders, that shit is pure talent.
That shit is pure practice
Bro, the production in this video was beyond amazing! Great job!
Don't get frustrated! It's just hard to comprehend for some people how good of a player you are. I love not only your insane techniques but also the musical creativity and variety. Keep up the good work!
What he calls Selective picking is just finger tapping. He isn't a super hero
@@brucecharlie8613 except that's not "just" what it is, it's part of what it is, he explained and demonstrated it.
Imagine you become sooo good, everyone thinks you’re faking.. 💣 🔥
Bruce Lee did... What did he say if I tell you the truth you think I'm full of it and if I say nothing you think I'm hiding something... Can't win either way 😂
More like the opposite. People are either so bad/unimaginative that they couldn't even comprehend something like this would be possible.
Or everyone thinks you sound like a boring machine with no feeling whatsoever
There's loads of videos where guitarists get hastled for being fake, even when proven wronge... people are either jeliouse they can't play that well... or their completely ignorant to the idea that it is possible.
same thing happens in video games
Brother... no need to defend yourself.
You seem like a good, level headed person. Please get off the internet 😂
I've been playing guitar for 14yrs now and i really dont find any suspicious about your skills.. Sounds legit to me brother 👍 Keep shredding 🤘
Absolutely beautiful technique and execution. I've been a bass player for 31 years, a musician for around 40, and I WISH I could pull this off.
I’m happy you made this here video! Because I found you and now I get to enjoy all the music you put out. This sound is crazy awesome🤘🤘
You're amazing!!
nice idea
yeah and edit the clock so it looks like real time 😂
@@noodlesmetal and then dub over with audio :D theres no winning with some people
@@joystick2212 and edit in a real guitar
Discovered you for the first time on bernth's channel. I didn't think for one second it was fake or sped up. I was just so amazed!! I didn't know someone could play so skillfully like that. Love your music!
You're a great player sir and a very nice man too. Many thanks for the tuition my friend. I look forward to more videos from you.
Bro you're one of my top 5 favorite guitarist on my list keep it up!!your style and all is just perfect for my ears I love all of your stuff especially "queen of hearts" it's my favorite but after you released your latest stuff it blows my mind you're amazing!!
Well said!
Remember that most people will be mediocre their whole life, never achieve anything and will die having added nothing of value to society.
Does anyone know how I can learn this technique? if there is any youtuber dedicated to teaching it or tabs with exercises maybe
Simply amazing. Keep pushing boundaries. I wish I had these kind of skills. Still trying to play satriani vai and bettencourt 30 years later lol
10's of thousands of hours grinding skills equates to being extremely talented. People need to get over themselves. You're incredible man. Thank you for your music :)
Charlie can plays amazing in person! I’ve seen it! Your the man Charlie!
When you're so good at guitar that people _in a quite literal sense_ cannot believe it
selective picking isn't even that hard, these people are actually just stupid
if you can pick with your right hand and hammer from nowhere with your left hand, you can piece together selective picking
Normally I don’t like fake music, but I’m adding you to my Pandora. Love the technical guitar work, amazing.
I wonder if we should be giving Nuno credit for the selective picking. He's been doing that idea of hammer-on with muted palm combined with picking notes for a long time with a similar result. Back in the day it sounded like magic! Obviously Abasi took it to the next level together with all new generation of players.
My thought exactly. Tosin did not coin that term.
I totally thought of Play with me by extreme. Glad someone recognized it
Very cool seeing that Nuno now getting more recognition after the release of Rise! Thats solo is exactly what I was referring to :)
i bet that we could go back farther and discover some classical nylon string guy doing it
the top color of that guitar with the natural wood color is gorgeous.
It just means you're pushing musical boundaries. Just discovered you because of this technique! Well done! (Started guitar in about 1989 btw)
I saw a post on Instagram the other day that read: "There is freedom in letting people be wrong about us", and it was a great reminder for me. Your music and guitar playing and unique style is unparalleled. Don't worry about the haters. God bless brutha B)
Can someone please give me the link of Tosin's selective picking part at 0:55
Bro this is just like when you play a competitive game online and you're called a cheater because you are too good to be true for some. It is indeed one of the biggest compliments. Great playing! Subscribed and definetely gonna check your music now!
the amount of 40/50 year olds saying everything is sped up on ig is insane
i am always amazed with how many people around the world can be so talented and do that sort of unique stuff ...
that is why we need to stop worshipping the media who only endorse artist working for music companies.. there are too many talented artist around the planet .. we are all unique. just work and practice.. we all are talented..
To anyone who reads this. Charlie is one of the most gifted virtuoso guitarists on the planet... period. I've been watching him for almost 10 years. There is nothing shady about him; except for that deal with the devil at the crossroads.
dude itsliterally fake are you dumb?
Wild that I've listened to both Syncatto and Artificial Language without realizing it's the same guitarist. You're great, keep it up! ❤️
Ive been playing guitar and piano for years, and you will always find someone who will turn an instrument into something extraordinary.
The last comment at the end of the video is what made it for me.
Never heard of you, Charlie, until this video came across my radar. I instantly liked and subscribed! I'm looking forward to exploring your music!
Exactly what you said would happen, just happened! I've never seen you before or had anyone explain selective picking and now I'm gonna go check your tunes. Shred on man!
the "raw clip" you played in this video was clearly sped up. it was obvious because of how the floor appeared in the background.
Go touch grass fam lol
Awesome video. Never heard your music, I'll have to do that. I love how straight and calm you are in your explanation, but the editing of the video is freakin' hilarious.
Oh yeah, you can play a bit, too.
The "farewell" playing in the outro is classy
It's a testament to your playing when they're crying "fake" Charlie. You along with a lot of other newer guitarist are truly the next generation that will go down as the greats of mastering the instrument.
I’d never heard you before - very impressive technique and such clean tone almost Nashville picker sounding clean. I know how difficult it is to play without loads of gain - well done. I’m definitely checking out your music. Also the comments are comic gold. LOL
Wow! I watched that collab w/ Bernth & thought it was awesome. I play guitar, I'm 58 & get inspired by you younger awesome players. It did not occur to me that anything was fake. Only that y'all are awesome. Then I see this video.......
What!!?
Rock on brother
Well done. Tosin has inspired my playing along with the greats. Just subbed 🤘🏾
The way you describe the "trailer" thing. Yes. I was sucked in by the "slide riff". Boy, is Let Us Dance one of my favourite songs of all time.
Bro people are going to be people I understand how much u put into your technique because I constantly work on the same stuff awesome tutorials by the way and awesome technique keep posting people need to hear from you
Thats my first introduction to this technique. Frikkin cool dude. Thanks. Glad it came up on my feed.
Im glad you sped up the video so i discovered your music. Amazing work, continue to fake EVERYTHING.
❤️
Suuuuure.... because somebody would bother going through the trouble of editing the 💩 out of a solo clip, to make their hands look slower than what they should 🤦♂️
The people who say it's fake apparently think it's worth your time to waste it on even more editing for absolutely no reason.
What a compliment for it to be so cool folks think it’s fake. Lol.
Never heard of you but I’m into instrumental stuff. Checking out albums now
You’re an incredible musician, and I absolutely must learn this technique!!
Keep on Killin' it, man. Good stuff 🤘🏻
You’ve got some mad chops, sir.
Rock on!!
my guy you're insane. your chord progression and melody were awesome.
People will typically hate or rage on what they can’t play. Happened to Manuel Gardner Fernandez or Tim Henson as well… pls keep posting these insane tracks bro, it’s the most inspiring riffs I came across 🙏
But tim hensen is genuinely a bad "guitar player"
Just found your channel. Super sick playing!
Keep up the great work bro .. I'm a fan 🔥
Lol, I never doubt your solo when I saw the Bernth video for the first time, I was completely blown away...
This only means that, you're doing it sooo good that it looks fake, you should see it as a compliment.
Reminds me of an old friend back in the '90s who insisted that the fast solo from Metallica's One was played by a synth. The look on his face when I played it on my guitar was like he saw a wizard or smth. Love your music man, keep it up!
I am a pro guitarist for 31 years. This is absolut real playing with excellent technique! NO FAKE! Thx for your amazing music
Got recommended this video and found your music... it's really good stuff glad I found it
Dude i saw the video a few days ago on IG. Im a metal guy and play for 22 years myself. I have the most respect for your playing and for you developing your craft⚡ there will always be ppl talking😂 but i belive someone calling your playing fake, is probably the biggest compliment you can get! So dont bother and keep rocking man!🤘🏻🔥
Dude, I don't normally post comments on YT videos, but you are amazing. Let the haters hate, these comments spawn from jealousy. Don't let them sidetrack you.
Charlie, I don't remember the magazine or the song yet I vividly recall a transcription of a Satriani track appearing somewhere in which the transcriber noted that (in a specific section) Joe's line was actually two different guitars. He wrote in to correct the transcriber and provided his own lesson on how to play it.
You're on some Satch shit. 🔥
Holy cow!
Iv never seen you before, and have to say that your playing is magnificent. I know there are lots of great guitarist out there but that is brilliant playing. Wow.
😂 OMG this was so funny. Had no idea the internet was coming for you like that
Haters will be haters, no matter anything! I 100% acknowledge your badassery on the Guitar!!! (Not Believe, but Acknowledge!) 😊🤗😊 👏👏👏👍👍👍BRAVO!!!
Awesome technique and selective picking, brother. Hope you have a blessed August :)
True dat, I got here because it said something like "fake video"... And discovered a super guitarist!
My god you're really good, I'll set aside some time to watch your tutorial hoping to get some info useful for mere mortals like yours truly 😙
That's some pretty sick playing! Love it! Sounds rad!
I'm just relieved we are having a discussion about playing music and there are still millions of people who are curious with an attention span longer than a 30 second soundbite.
So ridiculous that people question your playing. 😂. Trolls are so dumb. You’re the best bro. You’re definitely an innovator
Nice technic, had never seen it before. Nice video editing too btw. I dont know how i got here, but i think i'll stay :) keep the good work
bruh ,, it never cross my mind that faking all of this ,,, XD i don't understand those people man XD, they're just jealous of how talented you are man ,,,, I'm just impressed that you manage to make this tune and make song out of it ... Amazing
I ve never been accused of speeding up my videos 😢
Extremely good playing 🔥
Dude!!!! SKILLS !!! As a player for 40 years that is some amazing technique. Don't worry about the haters or fakers.
Ugggggh, You are just another fantastic style of playing!. Being a guitarist myself, I cant figure out why anyone would ATTEMPT to play down this style other than being jealous or something else. I shred, but this is a completely different style. Keep it going, it's absolutely great to watch and listen to another great talent! Does Frank Gambale play like Guthrie or Steve morse or Al Dimeola? No, all incredible and different, just like yourself! Carry on!
