I have installed this kit an year ago and it still works perfectly. Before this I had never opened or repaired any controller. Just need to follow the instructions properly and for the colour mismatching there are other options as well I got the one with black and white grip texture.
Do they have a four button option? Still prefer the edge with the removable joysticks something-mometer 😅, but four back buttons trump the joystick feature of the edge.
Same 100% same I love it my controller has stick drift and is the only reason I don’t use that controller anymore I have the edge and I find these back button way more comfortable than the edge.
Literally, I said that when ps5, just came out plus the slim too.. But mfs know they would get u to spend extra down the line for new advanced controllers or attachments for moving like this
@@1div2agent74 they're not going to sell me a $300 controller, I will mod the original controller with a $20 kit or much more likely not buy a PS5 in the first place because PC parts are getting so efficient nowadays you can just build a PC that out performs a PS5 for less money and use the extra cash to buy a controller with back paddles if you still want to use a controller. PS exclusive Games all get remastered and released on PC eventually anyway, so the better experience is on PC for the same games. Games are also cheaper on Steam and Epic than the PS store, so it's Sony's loss.... They should've made back paddles standard lol
The installation difficulty goes up exponentially if you want to map the L & R 3 buttons as it requires soldering but any other button only requires the ribbon installations.
Hey John, I got the 4 button version of this which is around £10 more and agree it is the best alternative to a scuff or elite controller especially if you okay FPS games. Extremerate also do Hair trigger buttons for £15 and Interchangable thumb sticks for £15. So for £65-£75 you'll have a fully loaded FPS controller 💪
Hair triggers make a world if difference and if I had to chose hair triggers or paddles to up my fps games I'd go with the clicky hair triggers. Their so so much faster. Also you can jam the hell out of them and they won't brake. Perfect for cod. If your budget building do clicky triggers first then upgrade with paddles. Some people prefer the 2 paddles over the 4 and vice versa. As it can be easy to bump the button on accident with the 4. I had both the 2 and 4 paddle set ups and it took a bit to adjust to using the 4 without bumping a wrong button. Also you don't need to solder unless u want the pad to work or the sticks I never sodered mine but can see that it would be good to maylee in cod with it set on a paddle.
It is actually not too complicated. I have done 4 of these for myself and friends and did not really run into any issues and i would say im a novice at taking things apart. There is detailed youtube videos on how to install the extremerates. Only draw back is, dont get the plastic paddles. Mine broke once. Company sent out replacements, but now i believe they have metal paddles version.
I’ve had my kit for about 2 years, I was even able to move it over to a new controller to continue to use it instead of buying another one, worth the investment
They even got a stick drift fix kit. I looked at a soldering vid for mapping the L3 and R3. It's worth it, if you're patient. Now my movement is like the pros and streamers for COD. One of my buttons went out for the paddles and they replaced it for free ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
@sP33DyEd I agree, it worked for like 2 weeks while heavily playing COD then it started acting buggy. It was cool to take apart the controller and all but I finally just switched to ps5 elite controller 😎
@@imli47ed I replace them for all my friends. I'm going to try hall effect now. I don't want to disapoint you but I know someone with elite controller with stick drift after 3 months....
I've used the 2 button and 4 button variants over the past year and can say that they're fantastic. They're only starting to see issues now where the paddles which were slightly loose to start off with now trigger the actuator on the main board without a full press/pull of the paddle itself. They're great value for money but could do with better design and manufacturing as buttons and paddles should not be loose/wobbly from the get go. I would try the RMB versions if I hadn't already purchased a DS Edge.
I am still a little peeved that Sony didn't release a back button attachment for PS5. I know WHY they did that (Pro Controllers have wayyyy better margins than a $30 accessory) but having them on my DualShock 4s were so nice... I just miss them... lol
Right! I used my ps4 back button attachments alot. I bought quite a few when they were $10 to add to all my dualshocks as I use them on different devices. They work great.
Got these installed on 2 controllers, plastic 4 button versions. If you want to remap the touchpad button, this needs soldering too. The other downside is once installed, you can't put it onto the PS5 charging dock without purchasing adapters for the dock. I have these too and they work fine. You can't make profiles so you will need to remap buttons for different games but this is very easy to do. Good company service aswell, if you cut one of the ribbons wrong by mistake, they will send you another for free. There are videos on how to install, including ones from the company themselves, but you do need some basic soldering knowledge and skill if you want to remap the analog and touchpad buttons

It's not easy but the official guides by extremerate are extremely detailed and easy to follow. It's worth the amount of money you save instead of buying a scuff for like £250 and i hear they're unreliable and break easily. PS5 controller for £60. The 4 button metal back paddles for £50. You've just saved over £100. So I bought a custom front shell they sell. I even bought a soldering kit to do the extra steps for the L3/R3. Overall, you're still saving money, with or without the kit. Now I'm just waiting for the digital triggers for the BDM-30 model to release. It's going great and going to get better
I've done this on 3 controllers, easy and works really well. I even did the hair triggers. The problem is the stick drift I get from over use so the Edge is a better option.
Did the 4 button mod to my one, never opened a controller before but got it right following the instruction video.... Actually now prefer it to my scuf
But the DS edge has swappable sticks… and every single ps controller I’ve owned has stick/stick drift issues. I’ve been using the extreme rate kits to add back button to ps4 controllers for a couple of years. They do OK, BUT spending additional money on a controller that is bound to have an indictable issue isn’t the best idea in the long run imo.
Yep. All of these reviews ignore this. Besides a great Hall effects alternative controller option, being able to swap out a stick for thirty something AUD I get a brand new stick with no stick drift has been life changing. I was on my 7th dual shock before I got the edge. About to swap my second stick module after owning the controller for about 8 months.
I still like the idea of the edge because of the swappable sticks, but the price point of this is really nice. My release day controllers luckily haven't had stick drift yet so I'm still rocking dual sense controllers, lol.
Bruh I’ve had my edge for a few months the back grips are terrible. They’ve been ripping apart. Believe me I don’t misuse my controllers at all. It feels way more slippery now than my 2 years old ps5 standard controller
YES!!! I requested you do this about a year ago and I love these kits. They have tons of options for face plates and textured/grippy back plates and I honestly enjoy putting these together more than simply buying an elite controller.
I have had this installed for almost two years now, I have no problem with it, the reason for not having any problem is, I ordered plastic back cover instead of metal "not the paddle, only the cover of the paddle" Metal felt heavy, but I'm sure if you give it a time with full metal anyone can get used to it.
I got this kit almost a year ago nd still functioning properly. Highly recommend to give you that edge. Although the installation can be tedious, following given instructions you should breeze right thru it.
I just got a DualSense Edge which has full button remapping for the entire controller including button combinations. Much more functionality than the add on for the standard DualSense. But for a quick fix, this works OK, but I'd go with the 4 button option instead of just the 2.
Extreme rate parts are good. I've kitted out my whole control with their parts dpad and x tringle square and circle, back buttons L1 R1 L2 R2 and even the back button kit, there a cheaper option than a scuf or battle beaver and I reckon there better tbh I haven't had a problem with the extreme rate parts just follow a video guide and u can install anything
Did that a year and a half ago. Black on black with white sprayed on grip, also new front mate black cover with white buttons and triggers! It's freaking sick!
So you have to solder if you want to map the thumbstick buttons?..... I'm trying to wrap my head around why on earth anyone would want to remap the thumbstick buttons.... The whole point in these back buttons is that it allows you to spend more time with your thumbs on the thumbsticks, giving you the competitive edge when needing to move the camera & the character. You're always going to have your thumbs on the thumbsticks when using this add-on. So why on earth would anybody need to map the L3 & R3 buttons?
I’ve done this on 2 controllers and it is cool but to be fully custom you need to weld. And also your battery life will go down slightly, not as bad as the Edge but overall its an ok upgrade. My edge feels better in every way
Sony should just release back paddles officially like they did on ps4 but I’m sure they won’t because they might lose sales on their 200 dollar expensive controller
I have the rise 4 which is 4 back buttons and its an absolute game changer. I have 2 controllers and my favorite is the one with the rise 4 I hate using the standard controller
I did these back buttons as well as put in a larger capacity battery and the controller also got black rubberized grip handles my battery now lasts like two days if you play non stop , I canceled my dualsense edge pre order after I did this and and am still very happy with my choice and controller
A warning to all: I bought a PS5 bundle with 2 controllers...and both are right now undergoing warranty repair a few months in, because of the left stick moving on its own. Imagine a couple years down the road, with no more warranty. Meanwhile, my day 1 PS4 controller still works perfectly, with only the rubber on the left joystick wearing out
I tore the base of my thumb joints (honestly) thanks to L3 and R3. And if I wasnt so dumb about electronics, i wouldve tried this. But for now I'll just keep saving for the edge.
I've posted comments about this item for a while before sony dropped that pro edge controller. Also its worth spending an extra $5 for the 2 extra back paddles.
so you save 90 to 100 dollars and lose out the ability to swap thumbsticks (being able to swap which one is on which side is OP especially changing the right stick to a higher deadzone than left one for me), you also lose out on a easy hot swappable thumbstick option and will likely dish out extra money if you want some. The ability to lock chargers in place is amazing for PC players and PS5 players alike. although at this time there are no other color options available for DSE, the few wxtra features it brings is a huge step up. Also unless your playing games all day battery isnt really an issue and you can always upgrade it.
Had this installed along with their clicky triggers for over a year yet. Good products, only problem is stick drift on a standard dualsense will still be RIP
I would like to have a conversation with you about trying get a PS4 game that has coded from an overheated system that I would like to transfer to another system and get it recovered if possible. I think you are definitely the man to talk to.
i have this same kit, but had to replace the paddles they broke pretty quick. i made new paddles out of a metal sheet I don't think they will ever brake again.
I wanted a pro controller. I decided to buy one of these and use it on my spare controller. If it was bad, id buy a pro, if it worked id stick with it. Bought a 4 button and a new gripped back plate, as this controller i had previously customised and replaced the buttons and triggers and painted black. Installation took an hour or so, but instructions were clear. Its been amazing since, havent felt the need to buy a pro controller. It feels just as good as my astro controller i used to use for my ps4 rhat i had to stop using, so glad to have paddles and haptic feedback
I’ve had this for over a year now, way cheaper then getting a scuff our others of that sort, I’ve done multiple controller for myself and friends, highly recommended
I did the process in less than 45min but i am used to do this, soldering, disassembly and so on. For me personally the process is not Hard.. I guess rating it 1 to 5 i give it 3. Follow instructions carefully and u can do it. I did this on my 2 controllers long time ago. It is awesome.
It takes me 20 min from start to finish now that I've done it a few times. Personally their great for fps games. I have the rise4 button one. I keep my slide and jump on the right two buttons and reload/switch weapons on the left for mw2. I also have clicky triggers which make the biggest difference in fps games. Downside is they don't match perfectly so if you care like me buy a front plastic as well. Or leave it I've done both. I do have a regular controller for other games still.
that’s nice and cheaper and all..but when that stick drift eventually kicks in, i’m going to be real happy just spending $20 to replace the modules on the edge
Extremerate got a cheap stick drift fix too tho lol. Also Ive neeeever had stixl drift with any of all my consoles and many cobtrollers. Maybe EU better Qualitycontrol tho
That would be a real alternative if the Edge actually had a good battery 5 to 6 hours is just not good enough for 200$ with the standard controller you are already getting 7 to 8 hours
in theory you could uninstall the kit and re install it on a new controller. it really isnt as complicated as he made it seem like imo. i installed the 4 buttons version half a year ago, never done stuff like that before and everything worked perfectly fine. just make sure to watch an installation video BEFORE and while you do everything step by step. id say go for it u wont regret it
I bought this kit and the package they sent didn't come with all the necessary parts so I had to email them and wait for them to mail the missing part. the installation was fairly long and stressful and once I finally finished and the kit didnt even end up working.
Only thing is you have to make sure the kit you buy from them matches the Generation of PS5 controller that you have given that they now have 3 gems of controllers you need to make sure yours is compatible, currently the kits are not compatible for the new generation 030 however if you have a 010 or 020 your good to go
Easy way to check tho, if you can’t see the spring when you depress the R2 or L2 you’ve got a previous gen, if your controller model number ends in a it’s a 2nd gen if not it’s a first
I bought one of these and installed it, but I hated it and ended up trading it to someone on FB. The pedals worked perfectly fine and the install was easy enough, but the problem that I had was that the pedals themselves did not have enough resistance. You end up pressing the buttons on accident all the time. They didn't feel right, ended up just buying a Scuff controller.
Such a loser. buying a $250 controller just to have an advantage over other players. Can’t you just play the game normal without always having advantage over other people?
I guess it depends how you hold your controller. I got the 4 button and accidentally hit the small ones. But the back buttons I only press when I need to. Just gotta make you're you aren't strangling the controller haha
@@saulmas1801 nah for me they just did not work right no matter how I held the controller. The tension and the feel of it was just all wrong. The Scuff controller, obviously super pricy, but it was way worth it. The tension on that thing is perfect and I never accidentally hit the buttons at the wrong time.
@@PatrickMartinez1 used to use an astro for my PS4, but when I got a ps5 it didn't work with ps5 games. Also missing on haptic feedback was a shame, and this just nailed it for me. You can adjust the tension too, by putting pads on the back
There are two extra wires that you can solder on the remap pad if you want the option to remap the L3 and R3 or you can clip it off and you will be able to remap everything BUT the L3 and R3.
i was for it until i found out you had to sodder L3 and R3.. bro . sony needs to come out with a dual sense back button kit like the plug-in they had for the dual shock 4. zero lag and it simply plugged in the 3.5mm jack and the attachment itself had a jack incase you still wanted to use wired headphones . since back buttons are essential for me i’m seriously considering getting a ps4 pro again instead of a ps5 and just waiting for a cheap alternative to the dualsense edge
Hey John, appreciate you and your videos. Would you care to provide the link for the screwdriver set you use to take the PS5 apart so I can clean this thing. Lol
I think the back “nubbin” buttons they have on the DualSense Sedge should just become standard. And the textured L2 and R2 buttons as well. It would just make the world a better place.
Extreme rate is flawless tech. I have had my back buttons on my PS5 controller for 2 years. Not one problem. Can’t say u would get that longevity out of any other brand such as battle beaver or scuf, aim controllers, etc.
@Desmond Smith definitely, I made 2 custom controllers, and they look amazing, but battery life is shit after a few months. I have to keep it plugged in while playing!
I did this two years ago and worked great but the original ps5 controllers were junk to begin with and my right stick drift got so bad, it ultimately had to go in for repairs. The paddles didn't survive the repair and I lost out on the warranties. Just a heads up.
That's a lot of taking the controller apart and putting it back together (that voids the warranty btw) that the average person would ruin their controller with just to simulate the Edge controller paddles.
I did this awhile back when it was hard to get ps5 pro controller. I def failed on the first controller but they did send me a new install kit. I recommend getting new controller to install on because part of my issue with first controller was bunch of things fell out when I opened. Because it was a well used controller.
Quick question remapping buttons is new to me so my question is if I remap a button with a two button combination is it a duplicate of what I originally have on my controller already?

I have the rise 4 which is 4 back buttons and its an absolute game changer. I have 2 controllers and my favorite is the one with the rise 4 I hate using the standard controller
I did these back buttons as well as put in a larger capacity battery and the controller also got black rubberized grip handles my battery now lasts like two days if you play non stop , I canceled my dualsense edge pre order after I did this and and am still very happy with my choice and controller
Sucha a great product! I’ve had mine for over 2yrs now and haven’t looked back. Fun to install and even better if you get the hair triggers.
Dualsense edge also has a user interface you can use to adjust the response curve and sensitivity.
This looks great, might have to snag one for myself! Appreciate the video!
It works great I just got and installed mine. Took about 40mins but worth the $45 bucks spent on Amazon for it!
The four paddle one goes crazy
I don't even own a ps5, I just watch to support your channel even after you left making ps4 content 🥺
Had this installed along with their clicky triggers for over a year yet. Good products, only problem is stick drift on a standard dualsense will still be RIP
Man, why can't Sony just make an official backbutton attachment like the Dualshock 4...
Is there an option of 4 pedals instead of 2 for the PS5?
Yes
I would like to have a conversation with you about trying get a PS4 game that has coded from an overheated system that I would like to transfer to another system and get it recovered if possible. I think you are definitely the man to talk to.
I have installed 2 kits and they both work absolutely fine lol
With 4 back paddles 🙏🏼😘
I think the two paddle metal option is the best for me id be pressinf the 4 button by accident all the time but two button is absolutely great
i have this same kit, but had to replace the paddles they broke pretty quick. i made new paddles out of a metal sheet I don't think they will ever brake again.
Thanks for this vid, bought the edge a month ago and now u posting this 😂 I feel dumb ❤️
they should make a plug and play back button like they did on the ps4 controller
This make your PlayStation 5 contoller overpower
I got the 4 paddle one. Absolutely love it.
Color is the least of my worries. I've never done any soldering before, i know for a fact I'm gonna fuck it up lol
The edge actually allows you to modify your settings
I did the process in less than 45min but i am used to do this, soldering, disassembly and so on. For me personally the process is not Hard.. I guess rating it 1 to 5 i give it 3. Follow instructions carefully and u can do it. I did this on my 2 controllers long time ago. It is awesome.
So you can remap these rear paddles to any button on the fly then switch between custom maps also on the fly?
It takes me 20 min from start to finish now that I've done it a few times.
Personally their great for fps games. I have the rise4 button one. I keep my slide and jump on the right two buttons and reload/switch weapons on the left for mw2. I also have clicky triggers which make the biggest difference in fps games.
Downside is they don't match perfectly so if you care like me buy a front plastic as well. Or leave it I've done both.
I do have a regular controller for other games still.
I literally get paid today. Thank you for posting this. Buying it off Amazon with a new controller. Ow2 controller player
John ☺️ great video
I’ve had this kit for years and no issue. Don’t forget their digital tap kits as well- great customer service too.
Have the 4 paddle version. You become a movement king
All that just to get stick drift 😂😂
that’s nice and cheaper and all..but when that stick drift eventually kicks in, i’m going to be real happy just spending $20 to replace the modules on the edge
I strongly considered this, but it would be such a hassle if my controller got drift with this installed. Lost one Dualsense recently.
It won’t. I’ve done it just follow the video guide
@@mcfriedchicken1972 I mean down the line.
in theory you could uninstall the kit and re install it on a new controller. it really isnt as complicated as he made it seem like imo. i installed the 4 buttons version half a year ago, never done stuff like that before and everything worked perfectly fine. just make sure to watch an installation video BEFORE and while you do everything step by step. id say go for it u wont regret it
Please make a video on a extended battery for the new Edge controller! Batter life is terrible!
I bought this kit and the package they sent didn't come with all the necessary parts so I had to email them and wait for them to mail the missing part. the installation was fairly long and stressful and once I finally finished and the kit didnt even end up working.
If i have to install it myself, I want 4 paddles like the SCUF Reflex
best cash you can spend on an upgrade i bought the 4 button option and its AMAZING
My question is, do you have to get a new one for every controller? Is it reusable?
You can adjust the tension too, by putting pads on the back
@@saulmas1801 the new scuffs work in ps5 and maintain the haptic feedback and all that.
I remember back when you could get paddles from Walmart for $35 and just plug them in
Only thing I didn’t like about this kit is the controller doesn’t fit on the Sony charger with it on.
Why did you make a video on the 2-button add-on when there is a 4 button add-on that is superior to the 2 button?
Bc both is kinda the same, but this here is even cheaper. The video is for the low price
Could you elaborate on what you mean by “needs soldering to remap L3 and R3 buttons”?
There are two extra wires that you can solder on the remap pad if you want the option to remap the L3 and R3 or you can clip it off and you will be able to remap everything BUT the L3 and R3.
This kit is easy to install and outlasted my original controller due to stick drift 🥲
The metal casing is definitely a must for this kit.
i was for it until i found out you had to sodder L3 and R3.. bro . sony needs to come out with a dual sense back button kit like the plug-in they had for the dual shock 4. zero lag and it simply plugged in the 3.5mm jack and the attachment itself had a jack incase you still wanted to use wired headphones . since back buttons are essential for me i’m seriously considering getting a ps4 pro again instead of a ps5 and just waiting for a cheap alternative to the dualsense edge
If you want the triggers you definitely want the adjustable L and R 2 triggers. The pro is definitely worth it
Great content
Extreme rate is flawless tech. I have had my back buttons on my PS5 controller for 2 years. Not one problem. Can’t say u would get that longevity out of any other brand such as battle beaver or scuf, aim controllers, etc.
WISH I SEEN THIS BEFORE I BOUGHT MY EDGE💯🤣🤣🤣
El o el
Edge is still better, battery life is the only issue but I like being able to change my trigger stops, and also deadzones on thumbsticks
@@emptytablegaming FACTS I LOVE MY EDGE💯WELL WORTH $200 IMO😮💨
If you bought the edge just for back paddles then that was your first mistake it’s price tag is for all of its features not just 1 of them.
I got their grip for the controller that I like way more than having paddles
