- 37796 winds it's way up the valley to pontycymer to be loaded by a digger..July 96.can't remember when they stopped coal from here..don't think it was long after..!!
grateful of any info on pontycymer..probably one of my top days out chasing class 37's this one...!!
Awesome matey the CF 37/7's were massive i used to wag school in the early 90's and go down just for these :) i didn't know were to go but we just got trains to different places and they always sounded so x rated!
Superb footage again Warren, In answer to your query a loading wharf was constructed near the reverse curve as seen in your video to allow reclaimed duff coal from nearby mountain tips to be taken away by rail over a 5-year period until about 1994/5. The land now been completely remodelled....Bob

Nice shots, MIght have been 412 in 2000 on the last train out, can't remember exactly....
Its the same when a coal train goes down Newport Docks with the big red EWS hoppers, it usually takes about 3 - 31/2 hours before he exits the docks.

Cant understand why they never had a proper loading terminal, it must of taken ages with a front loader. cool vid by the way
some of this lovely railway (Pontycymer-Tondu) is being resurrected as a heritage railway called the Garw Valley Railway :)
