When I first started doing this I used a table saw with a fine tooth blade. Right now I use a Dremel saw-max with the wood/plastic blade. Does the job. It’s just what I got.
When I made this video I didn’t own a heat gun, but I do now. It’s easier to work with and not catch the material on fire. Try them out they definitely work!
have you ever caught fish on these ? have you ever run them in front of mylar salmon flies ? thanks for a good vid i have made some already ,turned out nice.
I would highly recommend using a heat gun instead of a torch, won't discolor the acrylic. Disappointed that you didn't show how you cut it out. And a quick FYI, they are called split rings. 😁😁😁Good build though!
I cut them out with a dremel ultra saw. There is probably a better tool, but it’s what I had. Also I don’t have a heat gun, but thats probably a good choice. Thanks for watching!
Yup. I just used them this weekend. I caught a salmon on a clear w/ rainbow scales one I made and a watermelon apex. The key to these really is to not make the fin angles too sharp (minimize drag) and to use good quality ball bearing swivels. (Size 4 are what I use)
@@DJtheFisherman thanks and congrats on the salmon! Do you use double snap swivels so you can change out easily? I'm definitely making these. That was a good video.
Thanks. Right now I have them rigged with coastlock swivels. I haven’t seen a double snap ball bearing swivel. Usually I’ll just add a duo-lock snap + a bead chain swivel, leader, then apex. Or... tie leader directly on end, barrel swivel in the middle, more leader, then anchovy.
Thanks for the tutorial. What do you use to cut the plastic and which blade to you recommend. I tried a jigsaw but heard skill saws work better.

How dose it work?
what size bearing swivel do you use?
4 - 6. Just depends on how far you put your holes in.
Nice! Try heat gun, harbor Fright and drill. Nice work. I will make some.

Absolutely, but I use them for salmon trolling in the Pacific with a rotary killer, spoon, or krippled anchovy.
@@DJtheFisherman what is a rotary killer please?

Have you rigged and tested it? Does it work well?

@@DJtheFisherman do you know what the angle actualy is ? in degrees? on the bend of the fins that is .
No, I’ve always just eyeballed it
Good video. “Ridiculous blowtorch thing” as you utilize a lighter 😅
need to know thickness of plexa glass is it plexa glass?
I can’t remember off the top of my head, but it’s acrylic sheet from Home Depot. I want to say .093, but I’m not 100% on that.
@@DJtheFisherman thanks where did you get the reflective tape from?
@@chuckpatch1230 soudersfishing on eBay, but if they are out I did see it at Sportsman’s Warehouse one time. You could also try Fisherman’s Warehouse.
Yo I subbed 💕
