*Great quality amazing **Latest.Bike** , back brakes needed adjusting. Assembly a little complicated and instructions a little unclear but overall I give the bike 5/5 stars*
Great review! Just bought a rad rover 5 for my birthday. I am still waiting on my bike when I am writing this comment. Your review took me on a virtual tour with my new bike. Have a safe and happy holidays guys!
Great Review! My husband and I have the same bikes and rack...absolutely love them. Agree with all of the points you made. They are also upgradable with after market controllers, motors, batteries, etc. in the event your needs change...Have fun!
Hay, way to go. I’m 70 and I just a Rad Rover 5 love it. I also have a lectric Xp and I just bought a 1000w front wheel to pull these steep grades where I live. I love it. Wish I could’ve started riding several ago.
My wife and I recently bought two RADRunner ebikes for use with our Minnie Winnie 25B. We do not tow a car and wanted the bikes for local exploration. We have found ourselves riding them nearly every day in our neighborhood when not traveling. Our RV is named RV Calypso and the ebikes are called Denise 1 and Denise 2.
Nice! 👍 We also are finding ourselves riding these nearly everyday for fun, exploring, and running errands! Great names you picked out! Thanks for watching!
Great review. I’ve looked at Specialized, Pedego, and Elektra. The tech changes so quickly that each time I think I’ve decided, I see another update like yours
Hey there, thanks! Yes, ebikes have been around for a little bit, but have really exploded with 2020. We liked Rad Power Bikes for their reviews, durability, on road/off road capability, years in the game, and locality out of Seattle. Good luck in your hunt and thanks for watching!
Exciting...my wife and I wanted to get into mountain biking for a vacation activity. We enjoyed hiking, but wanted something more fun. We started out with Rad Rovers and enjoyed them but have moved on to more serious trail/mountain ebikes that are full suspension. Our vacations are now centered around mountain bike destinations where ebikes are allowed. We are having a lot of fun with this new activity. Hope you guys get a lot of enjoyment out of yours!
Oh, fun! Mountain ebikes! Sounds like a great activity to center you vakays around. We are absolutely having a blast and exploring more than ever in these things!
Awesome video, once again! Thanks for sharing the info on these cool bikes. I’ve been looking for an E bike and your video has helped steer me towards a Rad Power Bike! All the best to you both.
Hey Anthony, thanks for watching! We just put these bikes to the test on the HILLY streets of San Francisco! Did 90 miles in two days and it was AWESOME! Hope you enjoy your new E bike when you get it!😀
I have a Radrover5. I installed a Bolton ebike upgrade which doubles your watts, and greatly increased the torque. For my area with the steep inclines, it has been very helpful.
My RadRover 5 Forest Green special edition is on the way! Passing some time watching videos about it. I ordered the rear rack right off the bat. I think I made a good choice. I am selling a different front drive electric bike and a Kymco People 50 scooter to help fund this purchase.
Even though these eBikes are heavy, and they have higher drag fat tires, if you're strong and healthy like Irene and her husband, on level ground no assistance is needed if you're only doing an eight mile round trip or so. As such the range increases dramatically. That translates into only needing to charge the bikes once a week if that (increases convenience). Adding assist increases speed making anything within a 10-mile radius very accessible. I've had mine for about six months now and I love it. Note that regardless if one has a conventional or an assisted bike, I find sight seeing on a bicycle to be just the right pace. That is vehicles are often too fast and walking is too slow. I've recently retired and haven't done much travel yet, but when I do my eBike will be going along. Lastly for you 1%ers height wise, if you're extra tall, Juiced Bikes offers the Rip Current in an XL frame. Certainly worth a look.
We have a 2019 Airstream Interstate Grand Tour, and we have 2 RadRovers that we bought a year ago. We have the Hollywood fat tire rack and I can strongly recommend a swing away bike rack adapter (we have the Yakima Backswing). Besides being able to open the back doors, it makes it so much easier to load the bike that goes nearer the van. I swing the rack open, grab the rear brake lever to lock the rear brake, and pop the front tire off the ground and into the bike rack, then lift the rear wheel. We have almost 2,000 miles on our bikes in a year, so the e-bike gets us on the bike a lot more, at home and on the road. And a thought about a rear rack on the bike, while a low slung pannier may work, we found a regular rear rack made it hard to throw a leg over the bike, so we went with front racks. We use them every ride, carrying cameras, binoculars, jackets, etc.
Hey Jeff! I have been eyeballing the Yakima Backswing! I thought I would try it for a bit without to see how it is. Defiantly tough to get in the back doors! Good to hear you have that setup and it works well. Good job on 2k miles in a year! 😀
Thanks for the review. I am 6'3" and I was worried the Rad 5 would be too small. But looks like it would be a great fit. Love what you are doing, I really hope to do some traveling. I thought we would need to tow a car, but I think the ebikes are a great solution, and they are quiet so you don't need to worry about noise in RV parks.
AHHHH - I'm sooooo excited for you! What a wonderful and freeing thing this is! Great reviews! I'd have to get a smaller model - I'm only 5'2" and would probably get a nose bleed up that high! I love how excited you guys are about this and the wonderful change in your travels it will make! Congrats! Noelle
Did you guys research the trailer mounted bike hitch as I’ve heard there are potential durability issues with regular bike racks on RVs. Can’t wait to see how the bikes open up your RV world as we are planning a similar adventure starting next year.
Hey there! Yes, I did see that there have been some issues with bike racks on bumper pull RV's. Too much bounce? Not rated for much weight? I didn't look too deep, but we went with a Hollywood Rack and they do have an RV model. The rack we went with is rated at 80lbs per bike and was the only one I could find like that. We are having blast with these bikes already and use them almost everyday! Next year will come quick for you guys! Exciting!
Wow another fantastic video .Wow Rad Power Bikes wow !! I think you two will have a awesome time with them, considering where you travel . This new adventure will take you two to beautiful scenery and destination that I’m sure will be awesome. Thank you for your update information on the Rad . Thank you for sharing this with us. BS & BK. Enjoy your bikes .
Hey Larry! Thanks! We are truly loving these bikes and just did a 50 mile exploration trip in a big city today! Video coming out in a couple weeks. Thanks for watching! BS & BK!
I got a Trek Powerfly 5 for my rv travels. Game changer for groceries, exploring much further than normally would be able to do on a normal bike. Plus a workout when I want it. Thanks for review !
That Trek is an awesome electric MB! So true, ebikes are so versatile! We just did 90 miles on the streets of San Fran in two days! Wowza!😳 Thanks for watching!
@@IreneIronTravels Wow. Thats a TON of miles. Legs (and posterior) will feel it for sure. It is just above freezing here in Ontario, Canada. I will live vicariously thru your warm weather videos for the next 4 months. Cheers !
😁 Yes, nothing too crazy! But, it is a big change in our lifestyle and it is bring us sooo much happiness and new found freedom in exploring the local areas! Thanks for watching Mary!
Great watching your travels through WA. Will we be seeing video of your time in the Hoh? Loved this video. As we're recent Rad owners too, could really relate to seeing you so excited about these bikes. They're a hoot! We test rode the Rad Mini and the Rover and Rover Step Thru. I thought for sure I'd be bringing home the Rover (like yours, Aaron), but really loved the nimbleness of the Mini. Thought my wife would bring home a Mini, but she loved the Rover Step Thru. Glad we live close enough so we could test ride them in Seattle. Like others have mentioned, would be very interested how you keep them secure and safe (locks and rack). Again, so cool to see you excited. We purchased ours for the same reason, so we can leave the van at the campsite and go explore. Thanks for this video!
Funny how that worked out! We were planning on doing a video in Seattle on all of the bikes but they were booked out for a month! So busy and with Covid restrictions going on, it didn't work out. But we are so HAPPY with these bikes! Just did a 50 mile ride yesterday!😳 Here is the Hoh video from last week. What a special area! ua-cam.com/video/ZI9_x74hzBM/v-deo.html
You can add phone mounts and short cords to keep phones charged. Use phone to track rides & GPS (Google has a cycling option). Also Ride with GPS app is nice. Free for basic use or $49/year and chart out your rides ahead of time and use navigation feature for turn by turn directions!
Thanks for your review. We’re traveling with out regular pedal only bikes, and definitely see the benefit of an e-bike. We had to turn around when the sand got too soft in St. George Island.
Hello! Yes, the sand can be tough! We were surprised how easy they ripped right through it! We just did 90 miles in San Fran in two days and really got to see the value of having ebikes. We feel like we lived here!
Another nice vid, and good review. You may remember from a recent post on your SF trip vid(s), a friend and I both have Juiced RipCurrent S eBikes, and you're so right; they are just plain awesome! They make riding so much fun! I had a knee replacement a couple years ago and that knee nows grinds a bit when I bend it, so I wasn't riding my mountain bike any more. Once I got the eBike that hesitation just went away completely, as much because these are so much fun as for the fact that I have power assist to help with harder climbs, etc as well as the fact that when my knee is fatigued I can just hit the throttle and cruise. There's just nothing like it. I have the same Hollywood rack and love that thing! I don't leave it on my vehicle unless hauling the bike(s), and taking it off is totally simple for one person. Thinking about changing the hitch-pin lock though; it seems a bit weak for when you have to leave the rack unattended on your rig. I'm 62, and the rack is very manageable. The adjuster to keep it from moving around while driving is really nice and that rack is one of the only ones rated for two bikes at the weight of mine (a bit heavier than yours at 80lbs). Loving your videos. You don't get windy and seem to cover the important parts of whatever subject matter. I live in Sonoma County; glad you enjoyed your time here. Come back soon!
That awesome you are getting out there and enjoying your ebike! They really are great for so many reason and different types of people! Appreciate you watching and your thoughtful comments. Thanks!!
Great review. My wife and I have the same bikes but her ST is white. We got the racks and replaced that awful seat. I got my bike about a month earlier than my wife and put over 200 miles before her's came. So I had ordered a new seats for both so she wouldn't even have to suffer with the stock seat. Other than that we really enjoy them.
It doesn't take long to rack up miles on these does it! We also did bout 200 miles our first month. Fun and functional! Glad you are enjoying yours and thanks for watching!
How exciting! The Rad bikes are totally cool! Your timing is perfect as you arrive in Cal. Being the research guy you are Aaron, can you share how you've insured your new bike's? Safe travel😎🇺🇸
Hey John! We are excited about the sun and fun in Cali! Already visiting the vineyards! We just bumped up our personal effects coverage with our RV insurance. (Progressive) I will do a separate video on the rack and locking the bikes. Still coming up with the perfect solutions for us, but the key is to not use the easily cut cable locks. Gotta use the good hardened steel locks and chain!
You guys are inspiring and so cute!! Thank you for posting stuff. I’m pretty sure we are getting these but the step thru is out of stock already 😊 I hope they give you those bikes for free 😝 it sold me 😊🥰
Thanks for watching! Yes, the stock on ebikes has been hit or miss the past year, but they always have more on order. We had to wait about a month for ours! Hope you get one!!
Hey guys, I've been watching your channel for a while now and love you guys!! Loving the ebikes, I recently got an escooter with similar capabilities. Could you do a video or a section of a video about your locks and security for your bikes on the road?
Hey Chris! Thanks a lot for watching our channel! Yes, we will for sure follow up on the locks and security. We've only had them for about three weeks, but we are figuring out our best practices as we go. Just had them in San Francisco and loved it!
Thanks! We debated for awhile as well. Our biggest hold up was adding length to our van and also complicating our easy style of travel. But, glad we did as these totally change how much we are exploring the little things around us! Thanks for watching!
My wife and I both opted for step-thru models (but the Rad City models) because when carrying cargo on the back (we are also RV'ers and use them for quick trips to a local grocery, etc), for a non step-thru, the cargo will most likely interfere with your leg as you swing it over when getting on the bike. Perhaps you'll find you will just use the step-thru for cargo.
Hello! Good insight on the cargo rack! We also want to use them for short grocery trips and might get a good set of foldable panniers to help carry the bags back. I might help that I (Aaron) am 6'2 to swing my leg over the cargo rack, but I'll keep that in mind now. Thanks for the tip!
@@IreneIronTravels As I mentioned above, we recently bought two Rads also. We put the Hollywood rack on the back of our van yesterday and am now looking for the best locks to meet our needs. Really like the ABUS you have especially considering how they easily mount to the frame of each of your bikes when not being used. Question for you, knowing what you know now and after several weeks of use, would you still purchase the ABUS 6500? On a side note, the weather has turned to typical fall/winter weather, but the campgrounds are still filling up. What the heck!
Yes, I think they are one of few good options for ebikes. U bolt style locks would be the only other option I would look at, but they are just too small for the bike frames I think. We got the XL version of the ABUS and I am glad we did, because it can still be tricky to have enough room to use them. That is the only downside to them. They just take a bit of practice to use. The mounts are great and the locks don't move unless you take them out. Expensive... but worth it! People are getting in as much camping as they can before winter!
@@IreneIronTravels Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the Abus. Agree, the 110 seems to be the best option for the Rads. About ready to quit the research and pull the trigger. Really appreciate you taking the time to reply!
Rads are fun bikes for sure, I had the Rover for a while but sold it to another Nomad, I have the mini that I like riding around camp sites. Be careful though, they are high theft bikes, I take the battery off when I have it on the bike rack, buy a good lock and cable.
Hey Pat! Hope all is well! Good advice on the locks. I'm working on our security and going with items that can't be cut with hand tools like a bolt cutter. These bikes are a blast!
Hi guys, thanks for your review. We've been looking at these bikes for a while. What are your thoughts on security of the bikes on the outdoor rack? I've heard of horror stories about thefts of bikes.
Hey Art, thanks for watching! I think as long as you lock them up at all times you're not using them (and cover them) you'll be fine. If a thief really wants your bike and knows what they are doing, they will get it. We use heavy steel locks and chain that can't be cut with a simple bolt cutter and feel pretty safe. You can see these in todays video, ua-cam.com/video/c4k8DExBo-o/v-deo.html I'm starting to see a lot of ebikes at RV parks and some people just use the flimsy cable locks and leave the bikes uncovered and in the open. That's asking for it ( unfortunately), but every has different tolerances. And lastly, we added it to our RV insurance, so no worries! Thanks for watching!!
For my wife and I at 62 years old, our RadPower ebikes make the world flat! No hills to contend with! We always keep peddling and set the peddle assist to keep us going steadily as the terrain changes. When we get into the RV next year, we plan to buy RadMinis with the fat tires. We’re a little concerned about having them on a rack on the back of the coach. But we have the same idea that we will need a way to move around once the coach is parked and set up. So the bikes on the back didn’t cause any sense of sway on the tail?
E bikes are quite amazing in the ease of riding in different terrain and hills aren't they! They are a bit more of a hassle ( just set up and tare down of campsite) with having them on a rack in the back, but the trade off for the use of them is worth it. We don't even notice them on the back of our van while driving and really like the Hollywood Ebike rack. One big downfall is that it blocks the doors from opening all the way. You can get a swing mount attachment for about $300 that will take care of that. I want to see how it goes for a little bit before changing it.
Great review. Surprised how fit you 2 are that you got electric bikes. Pedaling that heavy bike when your battery dies would be a good workout though. On a side not, you being 6’2”, how big is the bed in your vehicle?
Thanks! Yeah, you would be surprised after a 25 mile ebike ride how your legs feel it! We didn't really get them for exercise, but more for exploring the 20 mile or so radius around our camp. Loving these things so far! Our bed is about 69''x 74''. Just big enough for me, but with pillows and bedding I tend to diagonal myself a bit. (Wife hates it!) The extended Sprinter van build outs are about 10 inches longer and would help with someone taller. Thanks for watching!
Great review! My husband and I are thinking of getting the step through. A couple of questions. For the step through do you feel you put pressure on your wrists? And how hard is it to get the bikes on the rack. Can both of you do it or does it required 6 ft tall and lots of strength? Thanks again.
Hello, thanks for watching! Neither of us have experienced any wrist pain while riding. (300 miles now) I have heard that the smaller folding style bikes can produce wrist pain, I think from the ergonomics of it. Loading is more "technique" than brute force, but they are heavy, so it could be a learning curve. You basically load one tire at a time so you really only need to beable to lift around 40lbs. I (aaron) do all the outside side stuff, including the bikes, but Chris could also do it once she learned the technique. We'll have to show this in a video!
Yay! How fun! I’m looking forward to your pedal adventures! I’m going to get a Rad Rover ST or Mini ST next year. Really love the size and look of the Rover but probably need the folding feature for storing in the house. So excited for you guys! Check out Citizen Cycle on YT. Lots of mods and ideas.
Thanks! It is a technique of lifting half the bike up one wheel at a time onto the carrier, so it's not too heavy, but it takes a few times to get it down! Fairly easy to do!
Great review and I've been wanting to buy one. Curious to know how you lock the bikes at night at the RV park, I'm just worried they would get stolen. Also, do you need to get special bike racks for them?
Thanks! Will cover this more in upcoming videos. We lock them to a 3 foot chain that I attached to our van. We have ABUS folding locks that cannot be cut by hand tools. I think the key is to not use a soft cable lock that can be easily cut, but if a thief has a cordless angle grinder, they could steal just about anything. But not quietly! Most bike racks are rated for 60lbs per bike, so we went with a Hollywood E bike rack that is rated for 80lbs per. Without batteries most ebikes are still over 60lbs, so you do have to keep that in mind. So far everything is working out great!
How do you recharge while boondocking? Are your batteries and inverter sufficient to charge 2 batteries without a substantial drain in your house batteries or do you need to use a generator or shore power? I'm curious because I'm thinking about purchasing a small van with only 200ah lithium system (no generator) and want to be sure that my coach batteries won't be depleted by charging the Rads. Thanks!
I do talk about it a bit more towards the end of the next video ua-cam.com/video/JO8Mq2-DhpE/v-deo.html But, its a 120 watt charger ( 120w/12v=10Amps) , so roughly 10amps per hour of charging the bike battery. So one dead battery would be about 6 hours of charging or 60 amps. Two batteries would be 120 amps of your 200 amps.... so do able but a lot. Keep in mind if you show up with full bike batteries you have about 40 miles of bike riding to do. This usually last us the whole week of boondocking.
because the bikes are heavy, interested in how you get them on and off the back carrier. Also, how do you charge the battery? Can you bring the batteries in the van and charge them there? Would you consider a separate solar panel to charge the batteries when camped out during the day? Is it easy to buy a second battery and charge that in the van too? Finally, is there a dealer network for repairs and parts for the bikes? Thank you.
Hello & good questions! They do require a good technique while loading on to the rack. We will show more in upcoming videos, but basically it works best to put up one wheel at a time so you don't have to pick up the whole bike. You can charge them on the bike or take the battery off and charge elsewhere. There is an included 2a charger that plugs into the battery and into a standard three prong wall outlet. Takes about 5-6 hours from dead. We have heard of people charging from a separate solar panel, but space is always an issue in a van. So, we would just charge from our vans electrical system which is 300 watts of solar and 400 amps of lithium batteries. You can purchase a second battery ($549) and use that as a spare to swap out. The range is really good on these and our longest ride was about 50 miles in the hills of San Fran. Ebikes are getting more and more mainstream so more shops will work on them. Most of the components are standard bike parts. Rad is also using a nationwide mobile repair/service called www.velofix.com/
Hi Chris and Aaron, very nice alternate means of moving about ! Curious if you're able to charge those batteries from your Lithium system. and if so how long does it take to charge each battery ?
Hello! It is a great sense of extra freedom and FUN! We have been moochdocking and at campsites for the past couple weeks, but yes we can charge them from our lithium system. Each battery takes 5-6 hours to charge and would only use about 3% of our van's battery capacity. We have two chargers so we can charge them at the same time and you can charge on or off the bike if you want. Thanks for watching!
*EDIT - It just popped in my head that the Rad batteries are 48 volt and our house system is 12 volt. So, I think it would be closer to 12% per battery. I'll have to do some testing!
Hey thanks! We put on Goodyear DuraTrac AT's and really like them. But, starting to get LOUD! About 25k on them and plenty of tread, but on the loud sidefor sure.
Her inseam is about 28 inches....so pretty close to your wives. Her seat isn't all the way down so it should be no problem for your wife! Enjoy the new bike!
I have 3 RadRovers now. I divorced my wife, disowned my kids and my Rovers are all that matter now...Not really but they are a blast, and you are dead to me if you come over and won't go for a ride with me. Mine are hopped up, 33 mph.
Nice, love your enthusiasm! ( and dedication to your bikes 😂) We are on our way to your level of intensity! They are great and a BIG part of our lives now.
I think they could handle it as long as its not too deep or for long periods of time. We were on a paved trail right on the Pacific coast and there was a section of soft sand blow over that was about 4 inches or so deep and covered a good 10 feet of the trail. Didn't phase the fat tires as we pedaled through. The assist from the motor just powered through, but I wouldn't want to go too far on a soft sand beach as steering gets a little tricky in the deep stuff.
Thanks Joyce! We tried on about 6 different kinds of helmets and these were the most comfortable! They don't have bluetooth, but that would be a cool option to have!😃
@@IreneIronTravels Thank you! The helmets look great/comfortable! I wish it did have the bluetooth option...I never can hear what my husband is saying...lol.
I saw that you can lock the battery on the bike but just wondering if you ever remove it when you're shopping or leaving it out of sight and take it with you for extra security?
We haven't felt that need yet, but it is definitely an option. The batteries do weight about 8lbs, so it would be a pain to lug around the store or while shopping. Maybe, more of an overnight type of extra security if the area wasn't very safe...... Thanks for watching!
Well I just ordered a rad runner!!! Hey I have a tear drop little guy Max 21ft camper with a front bike rack that is attached under the manual jack that holds 100 pounds so just curious where you got your bike cover? I took advantage of the email bundle offer yesterday so my runner will come with the console and passenger package which I don’t plan to use because I ordered 2 (saddle bags) , I live in Pa and it’s nowhere near a rad center so I’m already worried how I’m gonna get the bike together especially with all the accessories that come with the bundle??....I love your rovers since they are the fat bike but I guess my runner will do just fine out and about and hopefully on a beach one day!!
Hello! Congrats on your RadRunner coming! We saw that email come out yesterday and it looks like a great deal! We ordered our cover from Amazon and it is from Pro Bike Tool. Travel style sizer XL for 2 bikes amzn.to/3lUdIDm We love it so far and have about 1500 miles traveled with it. There are assemble videos from Rad Power Bikes that walk you through step by step and it takes about 1 hour. Or they have mobile repair and assembly too. Check here to see if there is service in your area www.radpowerbikes.com/pages/rad-service Enjoy the bike!!
Irene Iron Travels I clicked on the link you provided for the cover and I ordered one for a single bike (large) in the travel option so I am praying my rad runner fits under it! Hahaha! Hey thanks soo much!!! Maybe one day once I can get out to travel again I will see ya’s out and about! We can start a rad “biker” gang 👍😆😎🤣
Hey guys! ? for you about your Abus folding locks. Do you have the 6500 110cm or the 6500 85cm? I put my 6500 110 on my Rad Mini using the straps as there’s no good water bottle mount to use. Looks like you used the water bottle mount and no straps on your Rover. My wife has the Rover ST so curious if you have the 110 or 85 since Abus states not to use water bottle mounts with the 110. Thanks much!
Hello! We do have the 110cm locks. I used the straps on my RadRover 5 because I didn't like the mounting position (towards the ground) on that bottle mount. For the ST I did just use the bottle mount with the original bottle mount bolts and a coupe washers to reinforce the plastic. Did have to drill new holes through the plastic holder. It doesn't make much sense that it's ok for the 85cm and not the 110cm. It has been working great for 200 miles on the bike and about 2000 miles while riding on the Hollywood hitch.
@@IreneIronTravels great news, Aaron! Thanks so much for replying. Can’t find much of anything on the internet about installation except not to use the water bottle mounts. So, if not there, where? I was hoping to use the water bottle mount for the ST as there really isn’t another good spot to mount. Great to know the same lock cradle/lock has worked on your same bike. Wish we were headed your way. Getting sunshine here on the Oly Pen, but still pretty cool. Not stoping us from getting out in our van though. Enjoy the warm weather. Really enjoy your channel and that you take the time to reply to comments/questions. Cheers!
Agree, that is too perfect of a spot on the ST to not use it! Glad you're getting sun up there and some warmer weather. We are really enjoying the sun, high 70's, and palm trees. Cheers!😎
Yes, but it would have to be one of the bigger ones and would also benefit from adding a solar panel to it. For example the Jackery 500 is around 500 watt hours and the ebike battery is 672 watt hours. So, that would almost charge one battery, but if you had a 100 watt solar panel to it it would help!
Yes, the step thru would work for your height. You are right in between my wife and I at 6'2" and 5'7". She really likes the step thru and I have ridden it as well. I prefer the standard ROVER my self but it is a big leg swingover. Great bikes!
How much fun does this look! I always like riding my bike away from home but lose a little steam riding back. 😊 Does the pedaling itself charge the battery?
Good question! Because of the fat tires and weight of the bike, it can be a really good leg workout if you keep the pedal assist off or level 1-2. We just did 90 miles in San Francisco and my quads were burning the next couple days. So compared to a reg bike, if you go farther in miles, it can be similar.
@@IreneIronTravels thanks for info. Great video looks really fun. I still use a mountain bike when camping. I would for sure look at the Rad down the road. 😀
Yes, those are the locks we have. (110cm version) We like them a lot. They take a bit to get used to, but really love the strength, weight, , and the holding cradle. It is key to have them on the bike all the time!
Hello! The charger for these bikes is a 100-240 volt, 120 watt, 2 amp charger with a standard 3 prong plug in. I have not seen electric car chargers up close, but I do not believe they have separate standard plugins. These can be charged anywhere there is a standard household plug within 100-240 volts. Thanks for watching!
So how long does charge from depleted take with the provided standard 3 prong charger? Considering adding a couple of Rads to our truck camper rig. Can you open the rear doors on your van with the Hollywood rack loaded or unloaded with the bikes? Looking for a 2 heavy bike rack solution with cover that will allow use of the truck camper entry door. Great videos, by the way! 😎
Thanks for watching! We have a second video on these as well if you haven't seen it ua-cam.com/video/JO8Mq2-DhpE/v-deo.html Its takes up to 6 hours to charge a battery. Can only open the doors a couple inches with the bikes loaded and fully with the bikes unloaded. You can add a swing away adapter to be able to open the doors with them loaded.
The bikes are “water resistant”, the display is vulnerable to damage, we carry a ziplock bag to cover if rain is expected. If the battery is removed it is a good practice to insert a plug over the connector, you can find these for rad bikes on eBay.
Hello! I would say yes, but keep in mind it is a full frame 70 lb bike. The min rec from rad power bikes is 5"4. The min seat height is around 28 inches. The step through mini has a min rec of 4"10, but is still a heavy bike at 68 lbs. Really depends on the persons comfort level on big bikes. Chris loves it at 5"7 and is easy to handle for her.
Here are the ebikes from Rad Power Bikes that they recommend for her size. RadRunner bit.ly/3op2mrY Rad Mini Step Through 2 bit.ly/3g8unkC Rad City Step Through bit.ly/39Gto9V Rad Wagon bit.ly/37Av3ev RadMIssion Mid bit.ly/3mJa0wO
I think the main thing you want to compare is the motor wattage and battery size when comparing ebikes. All of the batteries are the same in Rad Power Bikes, but some motors are 500w and some are 750w.

Thank you! Glad to hear you guys are loving yours as well! Thanks for the upgrade tips!😃
You guys are awesome. I love the vibe you each have for one another. I wish my wife and I had your chemistry.
😊 Thanks!
Thanks, I just ordered one and don't want buyers regret.
NIce! Congrats!!
Hay, way to go. I’m 70 and I just a Rad Rover 5 love it. I also have a lectric Xp and I just bought a 1000w front wheel to pull these steep grades where I live. I love it. Wish I could’ve started riding several ago.
Right on! Sounds like you having a blast!
Aaron you are such a good reviewer. We LOVE you both. Keep sending us virtual HAPPINESS.
Awwww, thank you! Appreciate you guys watching for so long!😍
Exciting...my wife and I wanted to get into mountain biking for a vacation activity.
Nice! Thanks for the info.
I have the RadRover Step-Thru and I love it. It's a blast and you can go anywhere. Enjoy!!! Dennis from Florida / Michigan
Right on! Love the Rads! Thanks for watching!!
My RadRover 5 Forest Green special edition is on the way! Passing some time watching videos about it. I ordered the rear rack right off the bat. I think I made a good choice. I am selling a different front drive electric bike and a Kymco People 50 scooter to help fund this purchase.
Good choice! You'll love the rear rack and we recommend the bags we have on ours. Love the Green RR!
An adjustable stem really changes the feel of the bike, and very easy too install
,
Thanks!
Thanks so much for the excellent review. I’m amazed that it takes so little of your coach battery to charge them.
Thanks for watching! Keep in mind we have an upgraded lithium battery system. But, yes they are easy to charge!
Great points, agreed! Thank you for the well thought comment!
Yes, definitely will fit your frame....its a pretty big bike. Appreciate you watching and the comment, thanks!
Congrats!
Noelle
Thanks Noelle! The RadMini might be a good fit for you! Same power in a smaller package!
@@IreneIronTravels sounds kind of like me then - “power in a small package”.
Cheers !
Yes, we sure felt it for a couple days after! Stay warm up there! Cheers!
Fabulous! Wow happy with this surprise. Whew! Was a little worried about what it was. 😎
Just did a 50 mile ride yesterday!😳

Hey Brad! Hope you're enjoying that RadMini! Thanks for watching and the comment!😀
You can add phone mounts and short cords to keep phones charged. Use phone to track rides & GPS (Google has a cycling option). Also Ride with GPS app is nice. Free for basic use or $49/year and chart out your rides ahead of time and use navigation feature for turn by turn directions!
Good to know, we are still debating phone mount options and GPS. Thanks!
Ram mounts are very sturdy if going off road.
Thanks, I'll check them out!
Whoa. Whoa whoa,, hold on there, Dude! I’m Seventy but I’m not“ELDERLY”. Elderly is someone in their 90s.
No offense! 70 is the new 50. Good for you for getting after it!
Me too! lol
I know someone here, he’s 75 and almost everyday riding his e-bike around town.

Nice review. I’ve been considering an e-bike. It’s good to hear your thoughts and experiences.
Thanks! We debated for awhile as well. Our biggest hold up was adding length to our van and also complicating our easy style of travel. But, glad we did as these totally change how much we are exploring the little things around us! Thanks for watching!
Clear cut frontal passage in the clouds.
Thks yall
Thanks for watching!
Can you show how you lock the bikes up on the rack and when you go into town? Thanks for the review!
Hello Joyce! We use a heavy duty foldable lock by ABUS and we will defiantly show how they work in upcoming videos!
I hear ya, the research never ends!
Great job guys!
Thanks!👍👍
I just ordered mine now I patiently gotta wait probably at the very least a MONTH for it
Ughhhh
Definitely take a video on Lombard Street in San Fran.
We just did! 😬😁🙃
Thank you, great information 😷👍
@@IreneIronTravels Thanks Aaron! I look forward to more videos! Happy Travels.

Yay!
Hey there! We are having so much fun already! That is a really cool feature of the folding RadMini's. You guys will love them! Citizen Cycle👍👍
Great review. How easy is it for each of you to lift a bike into the carrier?
Love the video. I too wonder how you lock your bikes up while in town?
Thanks! Yes, we will cover the folding bikes locks and security in up coming videos. Thanks so much for watching!
Point your lights slightly downward.
👍Thanks for the tip!
I'm having one delivered to my house tomorrow which is January 2nd 2021
👍nice! You're going to love it!
Really tempting! Can you mention the name of the RV park in Sonoma? Thanks.
Hello! It was the Russian River RV Campground in Cloverdale CA. It is part of our RV membership in Thousand Trails and really liked it there!
Thanks!
I do talk about it a bit more towards the end of the next video ua-cam.com/video/JO8Mq2-DhpE/v-deo.html
But, its a 120 watt charger ( 120w/12v=10Amps) , so roughly 10amps per hour of charging the bike battery.
Happy Diwali 🪔 from India 🇮🇳
Happy Diwali! (I had to look that up 😀) Enjoy the festivities of your culture! 🎆
@@IreneIronTravels it is festival of lights and sweets .....it's one of biggest festivals of Hinduism ..... thank you so much
because the bikes are heavy, interested in how you get them on and off the back carrier.
Hey enjoy your channel, what kind of tires are you guys running on the van?
Hey thanks! We put on Goodyear DuraTrac AT's and really like them. But, starting to get LOUD! About 25k on them and plenty of tread, but on the loud sidefor sure.
Where is your bike lock from? I would love to hear more info about it, your likes and dislikes etc.
We will include more on the lock in our next video on these. It is an ABUS Bordo 6500 110cm folding lock and really like it so far!

Disposable income is tight
Tried buy the Raceland 5 but no discount at checkout?? What happened?
I'm sorry but I think they ended that sale. They are currently doing a free accessory with the 6's.
Curious as to how the bike would operate in really soft sugar sands like I have in NJ.
Thanks!
Welcome!
Looks like so much fun...congratulations!!!!! We like your helmets. Can you communicate to each other using the helmets (blue-tooth)? Thank you!
So true! " what did you SAY honey!" 😲
Great video, did you return the bikes back to Rad?
Thanks! No, we don't have to return the bikes. If you want to see more of them they are in our current episodes. Thanks for watching!
Which bike rack are you using for transportation?
We are using the Hollywood racks sport rider e bike rack. Really love it!
We love ours 14 mos. owners. 💜🧜🏼♀️
Good to hear from another owner! 👍😀
Check here to see if there is service in your area www.radpowerbikes.com/pages/rad-service
Enjoy the bike!!
Irene Iron Travels hey thanks sooo much!!!
You 2 rock!
Keep on rockin~
Happy early thanksgiving!👍😊
Thanks, you too! 🦃
Irene Iron Travels
I clicked on the link you provided for the cover and I ordered one for a single bike (large) in the travel option so I am praying my rad runner fits under it!
Hahaha!
Hey thanks soo much!!!
Maybe one day once I can get out to travel again I will see ya’s out and about!
We can start a rad “biker” gang 👍😆😎🤣
😂 That would be a sight to see coming down the road! Thanks, hope you like the cover as much as we do!😃
Hey guys! ? for you about your Abus folding locks.
Cheers!😎
@@IreneIronTravels now I’m jealous!! 😄
Safe travels!
Can a power bank charge the batteries?
Yes, but it would have to be one of the bigger ones and would also benefit from adding a solar panel to it. For example the Jackery 500 is around 500 watt hours and the ebike battery is 672 watt hours. So, that would almost charge one battery, but if you had a 100 watt solar panel to it it would help!
What helmets were you using?
Sorry for the late reply...just saw this message. We have the Bern Alliston helmets.
Umm no thanks to "reviews" from people who received free bikes...
Do you think the step thru would work for me at 5-11. I have shorter legs with a 28 inch inseam.
Yes, the step thru would work for your height. You are right in between my wife and I at 6'2" and 5'7". She really likes the step thru and I have ridden it as well. I prefer the standard ROVER my self but it is a big leg swingover. Great bikes!
Thank you. I just had spinal fusion surgery and plan on selling my motorcycle. Thought this may make a nice transition. Love your videos.
Thanks! Yes, after that surgery, your back will appreciate a step thru!
How much fun does this look! I always like riding my bike away from home but lose a little steam riding back. 😊 Does the pedaling itself charge the battery?
So much fun! We crank them up and fly on the way back home! They don't charge by pedaling, but how cool would that be. You might be onto something!😃
For actually fitness/cardio how would you rate it?
Good question! Because of the fat tires and weight of the bike, it can be a really good leg workout if you keep the pedal assist off or level 1-2. We just did 90 miles in San Francisco and my quads were burning the next couple days. So compared to a reg bike, if you go farther in miles, it can be similar.
@@IreneIronTravels thanks for info. Great video looks really fun. I still use a mountain bike when camping. I would for sure look at the Rad down the road. 😀
You two are cute together. Safe travels.
Hello, and thanks for watching! Your comment just made us 😃
DO YOU GET ANY FREE PROMO SUPPLIES FROM AIR STREAM.
Not really. We just work with them on special projects.
How hard was were the bikes to put together?
They are pretty easy! They come 85% assembled and it takes about an hour or less to do the rest!
Did you get the ABUS Bordo Granit X-Plus 6500 lock and if so how do you like it.
Yes, those are the locks we have. (110cm version) We like them a lot. They take a bit to get used to, but really love the strength, weight, , and the holding cradle. It is key to have them on the bike all the time!
Can they be charged where there are electric car chargers?
We have a second video on these as well if you haven't seen it ua-cam.com/video/JO8Mq2-DhpE/v-deo.html
Its takes up to 6 hours to charge a battery. Can only open the doors a couple inches with the bikes loaded and fully with the bikes unloaded. You can add a swing away adapter to be able to open the doors with them loaded.
How waterproof are the bikes?
They are fairly waterproof. Can be ridden in light rain and go through puddles, but should not be submerged in water. Thanks!
The bikes are “water resistant”, the display is vulnerable to damage, we carry a ziplock bag to cover if rain is expected. If the battery is removed it is a good practice to insert a plug over the connector, you can find these for rad bikes on eBay.
Thanks for your tips and insight👍
Shes smoking!
Can a 5'2" person ride the step through?
@@IreneIronTravels I thought for my wife, I do not see any other options for her and RAD bikes.
Here are the ebikes from Rad Power Bikes that they recommend for her size.

@@IreneIronTravels Wonder how these bikes would compare to the full-size bikes on keeping up with me on one of them?
I think the main thing you want to compare is the motor wattage and battery size when comparing ebikes. All of the batteries are the same in Rad Power Bikes, but some motors are 500w and some are 750w.
