this captivating song and dance number has still remained evergreen and perhaps will remain so till eternity. Bollywood hasn't witnessed till to date any other actress who could come near to Vayjanyimala's grace and charm especially in Indian classical and folk dances. Her expressions are/were matchless. This is one of my favorite songs and I listen to it again and again!!🇨🇦🇮🇳
This tune is based on a famous folk song
of Kumaon Garhwal Almora regime , noted Hindi writer the late Smt. Gaura Pant, better known by her pen name SHIVANI, has mentioned it in one of her books. The great Salil Da before composing this song stayed in that area and studied the folk music of that region and came up with this beautiful song, this immortal composition, a sheer delight to the ears. What a great composer he was, god gifted and immensely talented.

')

Madhumati is symbol of pure love. Differs from scientific and biological reality. Life after death, for that reason.But the inner meaning is absolutely splendid. love should live after death too.love can't die.and true love can be for more than one life.
The music, acting, cinematography, editing etc are out of this world. But the message of this movie was superb. Totally out of comfort zone movie from Bimal Roy. And his most successful movie commercially.Will be close to my heart forever.

This is the cleanest print of the most beloved folk dance and song ever in any Indian movie--beloved in every respect, right down to the rustic pronunciation of zulmi as julmi . The prime dancer Vijji with that chubby-doll face, the supporting troupe including the adorable little girls, the choreographer, MD Salil Chowdhary, and of course the Lata song and the chorus, all seem to have responded to some divine calling. The best dancer ever in the Hindi film industry irrespective of the dance form ranging from the puppet dance in Kathputli, the extra long shots in Hothon pe aisi baat from Jewel Thief or the Western style dance in Main ka karoon Ram mujhe Buddha mil gaya from Sangam.
