This is some gameplay of Bloody Roar on the PS1 as played on a PS2 with texture smoothing on.
Though the series has fallen under the rug in recent years, at one time Bloody Roar was one of the more popular fighting franchises. The original came out of nowhere. There was no hype behind the game, and very little coverage. All I remember is one month Gamepro having a preview of it (a really positive preview), and then the next month there was the review. After reading the enthusiasm about the game in the review (I believe it was Scary larry or Possible Major Mike who reviewed it) I knew I had to try it. I rented it as soon as I could, then I later bought it.
This game is pure fun. It does cater to button mashing, but there is still plenty of strategy to be had in the middle of the bouts. Mashing will only get you so far. At the time I didn't know how to describe this gameplay of the game, but I later played Fighting Vipers on the Saturn, and noticed that Bloody Roar borrows some of it's gameplay mechanics from FV. However, it's OK to borrow ideas in gaming as long as you put your own spin on them, and that's exactly what Bloody Roar does. If you're a fighting game fan who's still interested in the PS1, then look into Bloody Roar, or Bloody Roar 2. They may not be the best on the system, but they are still a damn good time.
In the gameplay I'm playing on level 2 difficulty. Sure call me a sissy if you want to, but even on level 2 difficulty, I had some close matches. I had my butt puckered on more than one occasion when capturing this footage.
Bloody Roar is also available on the Playstation store for those PS3 owners who are interested in it.
NOTE: Some people may not know this, but Fox is actually a dude. Seriously.

This game was severely underrated. I enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed Tekken 3

The physics of this game felt great and made the game quite playable and addictive...infinitely better than the painfully awkward Virtua Fighter.

I've been looking for this game for SO LONG. A local pizza place used to have a cabinet set up in their game room when I was little. Alice and Fox were my FAVORITE CHARACTERS. So glad I found it again!!!

Awesome fighting game. I remember playing this the whole night at one weekend, when a friend of mine slept at my house. We even preferred this over Tekken 3.

I remember playing this demo a million times before getting this game. I was a master with Long and Gakuryu. This game deserves a reboot in the future.

Why this never took off as much as tekken, street fighter, mortal Kombat I don't know. You rarely heard of this game yet it was more supperior than the other fighting games that were out at the time. The combos, the speed, the freedom of movement and the touch of evolving into a beast

Bloody Roar 2 is not only one of my favourite fighting games, but one of my favourite games of any type. It's fun, the art was great, the characters were designed excellently, and the music is just incredible. The character themes are literally some of the coolest music I have ever heard, and I still listen to them regularly. I was so disappointed when the series lost its way when the third instalment was made.
I remember back in the day I play this game now it's future games they should make games like this again but with better graphics 2017 much love to this channel

Wow, there are some folks on here with similar emotions towards this game as I! This is my favorite fighting game series, hands down. I played this one at my cousins house and knew I had to have it. It's addicting. My first BR game was it's sequal, which is considered the best of the pack by most. The games got better, faster, flashier. Namely my favorite; Primal Fury. I spent most of my past with this series...and now it's engine is used for other games made by Eighting. It's legacy lives on!
I remember getting this from a pawn shop around 1999 and because of that I couldn't shake the perception of the game being a bootleg Tekken. It was a cool concept though and the combos were sick, my favourite was Long's punch combo

In Bloody Roar 5 of PS4, I request the Hudson to add the Character and Beast, the Missed characters from BR1 are Hans the Fox, Greg the Gorilla and Mitsuko the Boar, the new Character will be add are Kyousuke Kagami the Smilodon, Johnny Bob the Hyena, Mashiro the Rabbit and Axle William the Panther ! All Characters returned (Yugo the Wolf, Alice the Rabbit, Uriko the Half-Beast, Kenji (Bakuryu) the Mole, Long the Tiger, Stun the Insect, Shina/Marvel the Leopard, Gado the Lion, Shenlong the Tiger, Jenny the Bat, Busuzima the Chamelion, Ryuzo (Kohryu) the Ironmole, Uranus the Chimera, Xion the Unborn, Fang the Wolf, Ganesha the Elephant, Cronos the Phoenix, Nagi the Spurious, Reiji the Crow and Ryoho and Mana the Nine Tale), Sub-boss character from BR4 is Ryoho the Dragon and the new Final Boss is Quanlee the Hydra.
Bloody Roar, such a great series. It is without a doubt under-rated.
Man, I loved the Bloody Roar series. I liked in the first one that you could sucker punch your opponent and they will keel over and vomit hehe. I'd love to see a new gen version, with ALL of the characters from all of the games, and of course, some new ones. I've always wanted to see a giant snake, or a dragon. Perhaps a gorilla or even a spider.

Why does "Game" in the description say Bloody Roar 2 when it's clearly Bloody Roar 1?
I don't know how they can make a remake of this game without taking away one of its main qualities, which is an arena fighting game. That kind of game is already out of date... Tell me an example nowadays? He was the best of his generation, or one of the best. Animal with the pardon of the pun.
It seems that every genre, and sub genre has at least a 15 minute comeback. If they were to remaster, and sell it for cheap enough, it could warrant a sequel, or at least bring back some remasters of other arena fighters. If there is a market for something, the games will follow, even if it's just for a short period of time.
I'm surprised at cool the graphics are. I like the animal morph gimmick. Looks like a fun game!
