  • 2021 YZ250F first ride impressions: Big Power! The updated engine feels stronger everywhere and pulls longer on top. The latest "Hard Hitting" map for the '21 engine quickens up the throttle response a little more and feels good on loamy dirt. This '21 engine has such strong partial throttle and mid range roll on response for a 250F and the throttle response is 2-stroke quick and snappy. The muffler is new and still very loud and the extra holes in the air box cover make the intake noise even more noticeable.
The chassis is responsive to inputs with a firmer suspension setting compared to the 20 YZ250F's I've ridden (clickers were set in the as delivered setting). There is less chassis pitching under braking or accelerating compared to the 20 YZ250F. The suspension is still loosening up so this may change a little but it feels like there is more low speed damping - this bike feels firm. I am 6' 2" tall and weigh 190 lbs and off the showroom floor there was 30mm of free sag and 100mm of rider sag with me.
The handlebars came in the forward position - which does bring the rider forward on the bike and also makes getting to the compression clickers on the forks difficult. Brakes felt controllable with good power. Clutch pull is smooth and light. Pro Taper bars are stock and so is a gold colored drive chain. This bike is BLUE! The blue number plates really stand out...so much blue! I really like the Yamaha Tuner phone app - easy to set up and load maps and change between Map 1 and Map 2 on the fly. Also easy to keep track of maintenance on the app.
From the first ride on the '21 YZ250F:
Engine is noticeably stronger everywhere (especially up top), suspension is firmer with less chassis pitch, and it still makes lots of noise from the intake and exhaust.
Looking forward to more rides on the 21 YZ250F soon!

Yes the suspension takes a few hours to really break in. I really like the overall firmer setting for 2021 - the bike has less pitch under braking and acceleration. What a fun 250F!

I really like your videos, very helpful,, im wondering,do you think the 250f is ok for the trails? does it have that Flame out issue(my ktm 350 did) i ride 50/50 woods track, but i always wanted to try a yz 4t,, i know the 21250fx is better in the woods but i heard they did not make any changes this year like on the 250f.

Thanks! I have a KTM 350 and I would say the 21 YZ250F has less flame out tendencies than a 21 KTM 350XCF...a little better. The YZ250F has instant throttle response - very lively and the EFI can be tuned the the GYTR phone app. I think the 21 YZ250F updates will work well on the 22 YZ250FX.

I am 6' 2" tall and weigh 190 lbs. Most of the latest moto bikes are relatively tall with seat heights within 20mm of each other so not a big difference. The '21 Husky FC250/350/450 have lowered suspension (10mm) so those models will feel a little lower than most. I have a buddy that is 5'6" tall and he has no issues with the seat height while riding a YZ250F. You can always get a thinner seat if needed. The YZ250F is a very fun bike so worth adapting to you if necessary!

off-topic but im 60 years old with a 2001 xr200 with full-size suspension valved for me and last year it was real fun to ride.......i ended up taking it apart and rebuilding it last winter......this year it was hard to ride and felt really rigid......i havent changed weight-wise or anything...i assumed it was just age setting in....so i remember one of the youtube channels and you also that if you loosen up engine bolts and the swingarm bolt it helps and loosens up the bike......so i loosened everything up and i was back to a fun riding bike that is less brutal on my body and easier to ride........before that the bike was beating me up and id be crippled for a few days after riding.....just wanted to share that..but anyway nice new bike you have there and hope you enjoy it and bring us along as always

Enjoy your new bike! Get the GYTR EFI mapping app on your phone and you can tune the engine character and also keep track of maintenance schedule. 2-stroke like throttle response and best off the showroom floor suspension - you are going to enjoy getting back into riding again on the 21 YZ250F!
