Safety equipment...epurb, flares, raft, etc, iridium phone or a cell phone booster...good knife for diving to remove line from prop, tools, and a good tow plan
Yep. We all gotta do that at some point in time. Thanks for the reply. I have just joined your channel, will you be cheacking mine out and join ?. Gerard.
hey captain christa, i enjoy your videos! Just a heads up, be carful when pluging that electric stove into the power strip. lots of fires happen because these powers strips cant handle the load. the electric stove probably draws 1700w . Also never plug an electric heater into those strips. run a separate 14amp extension cord to the invertor or wall outlet if your in the slip! I'll see ya in Catalina!!!
On Caliber I installed a wireless remote that operates both my windlass and bow thruster including chain counter. As a solo it helps a lot. Thought if purchasing a electric outboard. The boat came with 2 outboards and one is a 2cycle. Will find someone that likes it.
I was wondering if you had air conditioning on you boat for the summer heat? If not, I guess you can get used to the temperatures. Thanks! I love your videos ❤❤
Christa, Thanks for sharing your top ten needs. I’m learning from you 😊. I’m an older guy (73) in Virginia Beach with a 1977 Albin Balland 30. Getting her ready for the Chesapeake & who knows from there?? Jim Grigsby Virginia Beach
I’m old enough to be your father, but truly interested in your life style. Thinking about retiring, I would like to speak to you about how its possible to live on a boat.
What brand and model is your AC/DC fridge? Also mask & snorkel set with at least 3mm wetsuit are essential in case you have to dive down to remove lines from the props.
I will have to check and let you know! If you search front pull AC/DC fridge you should find a good one. Hah true and I do have so much snorkel gear and I have a wetsuit! Thank you for
On a smaller boat like yours, I would create a "RAIN CATCHMENT SYSTEM" to replenish my fresh water tanks. For drinking water I would filter that tank water further with a portable system like BRITA, etc.
Love the channel! I have a suggestion to help you with your fishing technique. The rod you showed is a spinning setup designed to have your reel on the bottom not on top as you were using it. The rod itself is also designed to bend towards the reel and not away from it. When the reel is on the bottom you crank forward on the handle instead of rearward. Under extreme load, as with a big fish, your rod can snap if it’s bent the wrong direction. If you need the crank of the reel to be on a preferred side then simply unscrew the crank and switch it to the opposite side. This will make using that type of setup much more comfortable and powerful when you hook a big one! Fair winds and tight lines! I hope this helps.
Hey Captain, enjoyed your video. I'm thinking you may want to include some Safety supplies, perhaps a first aid kit with basic necessities and also a small fire extinguisher. When you're finally full live on board you can consider a flare gun with flares too!
All those things should be on a boat already. The title seemed to imply for live aboard. Perhaps Captain Christa could do episode on safety requirements, both official and suggested some day.
Christa: Your boat is 31.5 ft? I read where the min live-aboard size at that marina is 35ft. Is this correct? How would live on it there if your boat does not meet the min specks? Stay well and safe.
I’m not sure but Unfortunately I don’t live aboard my boat full time yet! Right now I’m getting it ready to sail around and live on it full time, that’s the goal! Not to live on it in the marina!
@@CaptainChrista yes. The most popular brand I have seen is Rainman. It comes in two cases and can be stowed away when you are not using it. There are 2 versions. The A/C powered version makes up to 37 gallons per hour and the D/C version makes around 9 I think. I am not sure about costs but I know it’s a ton cheaper than installed water makers. I have seen the on other UA-cam channels. Bet you can find them easy enough
@@ronsgarage4230 I just looked up the rainmaker ones and they are still around 4k! definitely going to save up for one, I like that it doesn’t have to be installed!
@@christa8475 that’s awesome. I hope it fits what you need it for. I will look forward to your first try video with it. But then, I look forward to all of your videos!!
An audio system is essential for me, being an artist/musician. I have a very basic setup as well as a big Bluetooth speaker. I wouldn't plug in pro audio unless I have shore power. It's to big to power with batteries.
You forgot to mention safety gear like a life preserver, a tether system, a good raincoat for stormy days, fire extinguishers, battery operated marine radio, an EPIRB, oars for the dingy, emergency sail repair kit, first aid kit, flare gun, and more.
@@CaptainChrista I wish. If all sailors or boat enthusiasts had these on hand the Coast Guard wouldn’t need to spot check the vessels they encounter. Lately too many “liveaboards” have found themselves in big trouble at high seas for lack of equipment or knowledge on how to fix things like a broken sail clew, taking on water through a hull-mounted transducer opening, and more during oceanic voyages.
When you come to my cruising grounds, Santa Cruz Island Starlink would be a big plus. Almost no cell signal and Santa Rosa/San Miguel nothing. Port jumping your covered, but those islands are tough for any cell service. Good luck with your channel. If you run into my friend in Newport Harbor, Josh Post who also has a UA-cam channel give him a shout out. His Chevy Lee 35 is on a mooring ball.🎉
I would add a really good sound system. Ear buds are all well and good but sometimes you want to feel the bass! Good luck with living aboard - I’ve done it a number of times and it’s just the best way to live. Stay safe and best wishes to you from San Diego.
Seawater Pro made in the US, comes in 12v or 110v small unit will fit on your boat. I think 17 gallons an hour. Very easy installation and customer service is excellent if you have any issues. 4,000$.
There are a few hand pump types that are not that expensive. I'm looking at those because you need to make power to use electric pumps. I feel better about not spending a fortune on power generation personally
STARLINK. For safety sake, good for everyone. What STARLINK package do you use? I had always heard STARLINK marine packages were one hundred million gazillion dollars a month??? Please do an in depth short post on marine STARLINK with setup and monthly costs. 👍👍
Ahoy Captain, wow so much info 👏, A lot of cruisers will adapt to there needs once they set sail and are on the "hook". electric cook tops not ideal with z little solar , gas is good, as for the windlass, pull it up by hand , saves time on yoga 🙏 hope you get to set sail soon, ohh maybe hardwire your solar , get more grunt out of it , and apply some Vaseline around that solar plug on your bimini. The salt spray will reduce amps... And bunks for the dogs🤣🤣, had to skip that part. Enjoy your summer, hoist those sail. 🐋
Your fridge is working quite hard if the freezer compartment is empty (that goes for the rest of the fridge as well). If you don't have food to keep frozen put bottles of water in there, best of all put them in to freeze when you're at the dock. Best of luck for the future.
That’s good to know! I just got some ice cube trays to make ice in there so I’ll make a habit to keep them in there if nothing else is! Thanks for the tip my friend!
I think you covered the most important things, everything was well covered too.But I have to tell you 😐you were not correctly using your fishing rod, the reel goes on the bottom. That is a spinning reel which is a very popular setup, but don’t feel bad because a lot of fisherman do it the same way as you were in the pic.But the main thing is you caught fish and that is the most important 👍👍Hope you get a lot more subscribers because I believe you deserve them,Thank you for sharing 🙏

You should allso look into getting an small wind turbine. When sailing the wind turbine will charge the batteris and at night.
