Thanks for the "rest of the story." I saw a maker using that same tool and all he mentioned was grinding the blade tip profile. The cut off wheel on the Dremel is the other half of the mod.
Sweet! And I have that exact pin vice!! Thanx for sharing brother ... ;)
That's handy. Thanks for watching! I have been enjoying seeing you work on your dagger.
Very clever!
MakerDad I was excited to find a way to reduce the amount of work required to make several sets of tools. Thanks watching!
@@AllenNewberry I have some older leather awls that are constructed similarly to pin vises. Some of them need replacing and this will be a great option.
Thanks for the amazing video, can you tell us what kind of blades you have, or from where we can got the same?
I used exacto knife blades that have been ground to narrow chisel shapes.
@@AllenNewberry May I ask, what tool is used to grind the exacto blades?
are you just modifying number 11 blades? IF so are you sharpening each side or only one?
Yes. I am modifying #11 blades and I am sharpening both sides of the blade on the very end.
I'm really new to this and am wondering what the small leather cushions with the x on them are for and called ?
Shot bags. These were a garage sale find. But, if you stuff a leather bag with lead shot or steel shot you should be in business.
Where did you get it? I found one on Amazon, but the shipping takes a month, and there are no reviews, so I don't know if it's reliable.
Sam Harper I got them on eBay and they took a long time to get here. But, were inexpensive.
Allen Newberry you got the link, also did I hear right? Are you taking a inlay class or teaching one? Are they online ?
I am teaching an in person class at The Eureka Springs School of the Arts.
Здравствуйте. Подскажите инструменты купить .Спасибо
Is it possible to inlay in plastic?
It would have to be done differently. The wood closes back onto the wire to hold it in. Plastic would not do that.
@@strix2035 If you can get the blade to open the plastic and get the inlay installed, you might be able to "burnish" the plastic up against the inlay. I would use the shaft of a Phillips head screwdriver as a burnishing tool. Worth a shot anyway
I made about 12 different sized ones of these about 20 years ago using exacto holders. The one you made does not hold the blade straight, and even then you align it properly it could slip and it's job ruined maybe 🍷
The ones made from an exacto knife tool inserted into a graver handle are superior. These are quick and easy to make. Which may help someone get started who wouldn’t otherwise. They can work quite well. But, you have to really tighten them to hold the blades in position.
The voice is coming through only the right hand speaker, so irritating!
I used golf balls for handles. Drill a hole, cut the exact handle down, and epoxy the two together. Cheapest tool ever.
That works!
