Purchased Flextools a couple months ago. Trying to use it in SU-2021-Pro but what a chore !!!! Some of the dynamic components ignore my model units setting = architectual inches and displays all the component attributes in mm ... great. Then bringing a fixed window down from the Flextools toolbar doesn't make any cutout in my test wall (either if a group, or a component) ... nothing nada (UPDATE - had to use the FlexTools cutter option which is clumsy and not very obvious, YMMV). Try moving a dynamic window component in your model and watch the bizarre behavior as it refuses to inference on anything else in the model.... making it just useless unless all your surfaces are coplaner with the XYZ global axis ! Can not place a FlexTools fixed window at any edge or vertex in my model that isn't coplaner with global XYZ axis .... just bizarre. This makes FlexTools a toy not a serious tool unless I can figure out how to get it's dynamic components to inference and lock onto a perfectly valid edge or vertex. Justin doesn't spend any time going over what your initial settings environment should be, perhaps because there aren't any, but since I have had problems right out of the box with FlexTools it makes me wonder about initial settings. Not very useful so far - will keep at it. Usually Justin walks thru an extension's usage in a more detailed manner. This is a large multi-function tool set so I certainly do not expect him to cover but a tiny number of FlexTools features, however from my perspective having tried to use FlexTools, he uncharacteristically just glosses over using Flextools and spends no time with hints about what to do when the extension does unexpected things. I am aware that SU dynamic components have a horrible reputation as extremely buggy and unreliable. Willing to believe that FlexTools has a difficult time delivering expected features when Trimble's underlying dynamic component code is awful and the FlexTools staff is doing it's level best under difficult circumstances. It is rare that TSE does not cover an extension as well as I had hoped. The vast majority of Justin's videos are very very solid, which is why I have been a monthly Patreon contributor for over 2 years and encourage others to step up and contribute. His guides have saved me from countless hours of SU frustration.
Sorry you're having issues with the plugin. I'll start by saying I haven't experienced many of these issues at all. For example, I've never had an issue with the components ignoring my model units - I'd say you probably should reach out to FlexTools directly for those issues - I can't help with something I haven't had happen to me. As to "glossing over things," I have a playlist of multiple videos about Flex Tools here (this video is not intended to be an in-depth tutorial) - ua-cam.com/video/Nv21bX8lMyw/v-deo.html , but honestly the reality of the extension is that you right click on the objects, go into the component options, and make the changes you want to change (add divisions to windows, etc). An "in-depth tutorial" would really consist of me reading off the parts of a window, changing different values, and clicking "ok." While there might be value in this to some people, that kind of tutorial would really be more of an "intro to parts of doors and windows" video, which hasn't really been my focus in the past. As mentioned earlier, the vast majority of your UA-cam Sketchup guides are excellent and I have heard that Trimble's implementation of dynamic components is buggy and must make the FlexTool's development team's job difficult from the start. Some of the difficulty I've experienced might be due to this existing issue and that your Windows Sketchup platform is different from my MacOS Catalina platform. Will keep trying to use Flextools at some point, however it was such a pain earlier I have decided to cancel my subscription next year if it remains difficult for me to use. Hope others fined it a useful plugin.
