It was a rude awakening when I changed my QR wheelset to a 26" wheelset on my Troll. I had to use a funky Surly proprietary rear 12x142/148 axle. The kick in the pants? 1. Not included with the frameset! 2. No one In Asia carries the damn thing! 3. It's such an odd ball size, there is NO other option for a substitute. 4.Your SOL if your out in the middle of no where and something happens. Gee, thanks Surly! lol!
My 19 year old Surly Pacer with 70000 miles on it does not have either one of those drop outs. I got the unbreakable ‘Breezer’ dropouts. The bike is so good that Surly quit making them.
I dropped out of high school and ran away when I was sixteen. Dad came and found me and beat the shit out of me and made me go back home and finish school. So I totally understand about all this dropout business. We simply must have dropouts--no matter what! These days, at age 56 and with all my dropout past far behind me. I use my Surly Pugsley to drop out of work and home life and get some good fun and exercise here in my lovely Middle of Nowhere, South Dakota. But it's not a really true drop out, because I'm a grown up boy now and I can do whatever I want. These days, if I drop out and someone doesn't like it, well, they can buzz off. Who cares?! And speaking of drop outs, Surly dropped out the making of my fabulous Pugsley, my favorite bike in the whole world! What'd they do that for?! Ugh! I spent all of 2020 wondering what the 2021 Pugsley color would be, then, of a sudden--it's all over, baby! No more Pug! Looks like my next bike will have to be a Wednesday or an Ice Cream Truck. We'll see. Stay tuned. And drop out often.
what's the point for horizontal dropouts which eventually rust over time because you chew the paint off.. if only they were all made of stainless steel...
Horizontal dropouts suck! How does one stop the rear wheel from Misalignment!? While under load the rear wheel tweaks off alignment, trust me… the axle Is red face tight !!! Any suggestions??
how can you call your so called through axles to be actual through axles with a straight face when the point of through axles was to have them encircled in the frame so they wouldn't go anywhere and would contribute more to frame rigidity? To me they just look like slightly wider diameter quick release axles into an open instead of what should be a closed axle space, simply without the benefit of the quick release lever!
No. Thru axle is a feature of the wheel hub's axle; it has nothing to do with the frame. Bike frames are *adapted* to work with thru-axles. The holes in the frame, THRU which the AXLE slides in and out, we call drop-outs. It is still a thru-axle whether the frame drop-outs are holes or a horizontal slot, or any other system thru which a thru axle may be installed. The original purpose of the thru axle has to do exclusively with rigidity over QR. It has nothing to do with better centering for disc brakes; even though this is a touted benefit - it is not the primary purpose. This confusion leads many down the road of declaring thru axles to implicitly be an inherent part of the frame design, when this is not exclusively the case.
Why you wanna torture us by showing us how awesome the Troll is when you're not making any more of them??? So cruel. Also....bring back my clown picture!!!
Does the bike trailer work with the big dummy? That surly makes Ted trailer. Try smoking better flower before you do your next video you’ll get more views.
I loved the guy taking the clown picture away during filming. lol. Just ordered a Surly Kmonk. Can't wait for it to arrive.
I like being a Surly dropout
Great. Now explain the Straggler. Worst. Dropouts. Ever.

Can I buy Surly directly from Surly? I'm out on the boonies, and the one bike shops near me can't get the one I want till next year.
THE PAINTING!
The Ogre got to be the most overdesigned bike ever. It has so much more than you ever want or need😉

I would dropout with you
Hahaha this was great! Not to be biased but if you get Wednesday, you will be able to drop out with either of the Adams' Family Siblings! 🤘
@@LuisVazquez-ki8db True! But it never worked out that way. My next bike was a Jones Plus LWB (long wheel base).
I might like the sound of those dropouts more than I like the look of that Honda ATC trike you have mounted on your wall and I really like that trike.
Clear, thanks
When will you make a steel leaf suspension fork?

When will this flaccid hipster aesthetic come to an end?
and bogus hipster aesthetic given the company is a subsidiary of a parent company that also owns Salsa bikes
Wow, wow, wow.
