First I will admit, though I really like Sword Art Online and Gun Gale Online. The writer of SAO, isn't a good writer, he's one, not in his right mind at times, expressly with the yarning of wanting a harem in the show but doesn't, and the characters he makes like Klein, Agi, and even the Antagonist, don't matter.
I'm not certain Kawahara even wants to write a harem, I think the seeds are there but the light novel doesn't really play on those, but the anime certainly does, but you're right. One of Kawahara's biggest problem is that characters outside of Kirito and Asuna don't really matter.
There's so much wrong in this video like complaining about " muh damsel in distress " or the SA like a snowflake, or completely misunderstanding the plot
