I highly recommend the South Rim over the West Rim if you have to make a choice. There are a lot more areas to overlook the Grand Canyon. Go in the winter months and you won't have to worry about so many people.

What month did you go? We’re going for the first time in January. Also from Ft.Lauderdale so just wondering about the cold 🥶
It’s definitely going to be cold! But there are less people there which makes it nice.
We went in February. Strangely enough I was in the south rim in 2022 in February too.
